Time for more pictures of our repair work. All but the back firewall done now along with some grinding to do. Should finish up next Saturday with a little luck.

A few more

As you can see the replacement piece from Restoration Designs came up a little short so we had to improvise. We took some of the extra that we cut off the end and formed two L shaped pieces.

We then welded those in place to make it reach all the way and eliminate the gap we had. This also allowed for running a seam bead instead of spot welds which I believe is stroner.

Thanks. Wouldn't be happening if it weren't for my friend Tom. He is doing 99% of the work and I mostly watch and do the grunt work and gopher stuff. I think he does damned good work for a college accounting professor. sawzall-smiley.gif welder.gif smash.gif smilie_pokal.gif

With all the welding, make sure you check for squareness before you start putting stuff back on the car. You may need to bend it a touch to get door gaps right again.

Before you put the firewall in, take measurements and see if the tub warped at all. if it did its a LOT easier to fix now then it will be to fix when everything is back on.

Learn from my mistakes... ;-)

I sure hope it hasn't warped but I will check it. Where should I do the measuring at? confused24.gif

You guys are really kicking ass Shoe!

I agree with Zach...you need to make sure that body stays true. I left my doors on so I could constantly check & adjust the door gaps. I am sure that someone has good measurements to use as well and will chime in.

Keep it going! aktion035.gif

Came from Restoration Design. Very snug fit. Hardest thing we did was getting that sucker into place for welding. Took a little smash.gif but once it was there it fit nicely and was fairly easy to welder.gif . Still needs some minor touch up and sealing.

Can you post a picture of the bottom part of the flare?

You will have to ask Scotty B, that is his handy work taking place at his shop.

First flare is only mocked up, not welded on and finished. If you look at Mepsteins thread, I think I have pics of his on the underside. If not, basically there is not enough metal to complete the bent channel all the wayto the end.

I'm not sure how the factory GT cars were finished out on the underside, but I try to gradually blend that factory channel out into the flat section of the aftermarket flare. If I remember, I'll take a pic of Marks car tomorrow

I finally squeezed enough $$ out of Donald to pay for a couple days worth of work rolleyes.gif and put in the Tangerine re-inforcement kit. I'm going to try and spend a day or two a month on this one to get it moving along. ALso will be getting back on Mark Epstiens car soon. I finally found some part time help I think I can afford unsure.gif

Marathon Blue Metallic for the win. I still want one in that color...

Looks like good progress! Once you get Donald's stuff done and moved out you will free up some serious space....just in time for me to bring another car! biggrin.gif

Very nice Scotty. I am just now seeing this. I am curious though, why do you have to cut the front part of the quarter panel? Is that for easier access for welding? confused24.gif Looks awesome man, thanks for the update. beerchug.gif to you.

I thought that might be it too. I am sure it was a lot easier with it cut, I know Ken's probably was a real bitch to do.

Sorry Sean, not adding anymore 914s to the stable. I'm down to 4, really 3 once I get Christine all dismantled and parted out. Only other one I plan to have restored is my LE. Hopefully I can get Betsy sold and that will leave me with just 2, the LE and this one that Scotty is making beautiful. I think 2 teeners is enough, I am kicking the habit. smoke.gif

That pic was a month or so ago. As of yesterday, it is now blocked down and ready for the final coat of primer. smile.gif Front trunk floor is welded in, needs to get seam sealed and then painted.
