Just setting up for testing my new timing light an I saw this lead disconnected. I pulled out my trusty Haynes and my guess is that it's the thermo-time lead wire?
Is this supposed to be on the positive terminal of the coil?Click to view attachment

I do not think that is the thermo time. That would be on the base of the plenum.

I had a Pertronix installed maybe the old lead to the distributor? I can't trace it since it tucks behind the firewall mat and is wrapped with the factory binding tape. It looks like an inline relay of some sort? I can do a lot of mechanical stuff, but reading the schematic is giving me a bit'o trouble...

I traced it down and see that it joins up with a second wire fed down through the engine tin. This is an A/C car and it's currently disconnected, judging by the size of the wire and the inline relay, I'll bet it has something to do with that. Thanks for the effort, I thought that I was on to something bigger....if it isn't that, as Arnold would say, I'll be bak!

You are correct. It's for the A/C Unit.

Thanks dlee, at least I won't have to hunt for those wires when I put the a/c back in service next spring! I would suspect that those are the trigger wires for the compressor, I have a bit of research to do this winter on which parts I'll use for the new system, originally a VPC unit. I've been saving up lots of info and suggestions from the "Garage" prior posts.

And thanks to all others for the suggestions. I showed this forum to a friend that owns an old Mercedes , he couldn't believe the camaraderie and quick responses to technical issues of other members (other than the battle going on with the dude and his "first look at a 914" post lol-2.gif )

Have you seen this thread? It also has a VPC wiring diagram... smile.gif

I'm not sure how I missed that post, but you saved me a lot of work by pointing it out! I have to read it later when I have some free time. From some older posts I remember that there is an adapter bracket sold by Bus Depot that will allow me to put the Sanden unit on my York mount.

Thanks again
