Check in and let us know you're ok. After all, it's the blizzard of the century.
914 snow pictures appreciated too. Keep warm and safe!

Colorado, dead of winter: Personal weather station says 83 degrees outside, sunshine & zero wind.
I could primer my car outside right now if I wanted to...

What snow? Of the forcasted blizzard we got maybe 2 inches. Schools never even closed. Zach

somewhere around 27" right now and still snowing hard. Its supposed to stop around 3 a.m.
If my 914 were outside theres a good chance the snow would've drifted right over it and it wouldn't be seen even if I wanted to take a picture.

Where I am on the extreme southern NJ coast got almost nothing. Philly (about 90 miles NW) got about 2" even though the city was shut down since yesterday afternoon - schools closed, City offices closed, courts closed, mass transit operating on weekend schedule, etc. Local TV people predicted as much as 15" and are now actually apologizing on air for the bad forecast - "err on the side of safety" seems to be the excuse of choice.

A lot of hype and not all that much snow in western Massachusetts. Got maybe a foot when 2+ft was forecasted. All that hype...and not much here

The models were all over the place for this storm. There was potential for a LOT of snow, but it just never developed.
What are you going to do?

Close to 3 feet here and the storm will not leave.

Must be over two feet here but it's difficult to measure due to all the drifting.

Seabrook reported 31" so you're spot on scott_in_nh.
I see your 914 is black. Do I occasionally see you driving through Newington?

We got about 18 inches total. Not a blizzard here but a good snowfall just the same. This was yesterday around 9AM headed for the patio behind my house. Click to view attachment

Wish we had snow...
Predicted 3" from this storm, got a dusting, schools closed! Wimps...
Roads have been white with salt for days before the storm - despite the lack of snow, the salt will keep me off the roads for a while.

Anyone looking for some snow... I can help you out.. More due Friday... Nowhere to put much more...
At least none of the houses up the street went into the ocean
No, I'd never be able to shovel that much snow. I'm too old for that.
I have a tired old MTD snow blower that has worked way too long and hard clearing this pair of gravel driveways. The snow drifts and bankings are high enough now that the machine can't throw snow over most of them anymore. I'm hoping the snow settles and melts down enough before the next storm.
A plow is useless here.. Nowhere to push the snow..

A plow is slowly becoming useless here too. I am now pushing it all to the end of the long part of the driveway then spreading it around from there.....the driveway banks are too high now.
Your are quite a bit higher, but glad to see you did not get flooded too.

You guys can keep that stuff! That's how it was here last year! This year not so much yet. But we have had snow falls in march that have out paced the entire winter in one month.
Here's something weird. Saturday we worked clearing a driveway into our lake lot. No snow. Sunday no snow at the house in MN but directly across the big lake in WI fresh snow.
Hardly any snow here in The Netherlands, we have black ice on the ground at the moment... I hate that stuff. Just across the border in Germany, things are more serious: up to 2 meters (6.5 ft) snow.
Last Xmas, we went to Florida and we met a German family living in Chicago. Originally they were from Munich, so they were able to compare the Alps winters with Chicago. Their verdict: Chicago is much, much worse: less snow but far more colder.

Sandy and I spent the last three weekends cutting and stacking brush, dead fall and taking down trees. Saturday was about 15 above. I was Crawling around on my knees in the snow for 3 hrs. both days with a chain saw cutting brush. Sunday it was in the single digits. My jeans were frozen like shin guards made of ice.
It may be cold but it beats dealing with mosquitos and wood ticks.
Here's another snow photo. We loaded a tarp with logs and used the Samurai to pull it up the hill from the shore. The snow helped the tarp slide.

Get yourself a gas powered weed wackier. We have one that takes a saw blade to cut up to one inch scrub.....loads easier than a chainsaw....no bending over.
We also have a lawn mower brush cutter called a billy goat.....does lots of damage.

good, no snow then either - well as you know , its pretty hot and humid but so is the midwest, in fact last year it was hotter From Minneapolis to St. Louis than it was hear. Mostly low 90's this past year we never hit 100, and since we live on the water there is always that sea breeze !

I don't mind putting summer toys away for awhile, helps me look forward to using them again.
We're skiers anyway so I don't mind winter.
That said, back to back to back to back snow storms are getting tiring!

We got another 2' today.. Nowhere to pile this much snow.
I like winter activities as well as the next guy, but this just sucks.
Stuck in the house for days..
My wife will be going to school till July and they are probably going to lose part of their April Vacation for makeup days.
I gave up trying to clear the driveways earlier. Wind was just blowing the snow back in my face. 2 degree wind chill.. I had to walk through knee deep snow just to get to my garage to get the snow blower..

My wife had no school yesterday and a 2 hour delay this morning I was up at 5:30 trying to clear the front driveway enough for her to get out.
Took me a total of 5 hours out with the snow blower today to clear the 2 driveways and a parking area in my yard.
wow. at what point do you guys have to start worrying about roof loads?
gandalf_025
Feb 10 2015, 04:26 PM
TV News is full of buildings with roofs collapsing in the area. Regional High School nearby is closed for the next few weeks so they can clear the snow off the roof.
Here, the wind is so relentless there is rarely any snow that collects on the roofs.
This house is over 100 years old and has 2X4 roof rafters. Never had an issue here..

Law is 3 foot snow loads, mine are built for 6 foot.
Everyone is worried about it right now, I have shoveled once this year already, will do it again this weekend after the next storm which should be another foot or two, not sure yet.
I think we have gotten somewhere around 80 inches in the past 15 days...
