The supports in the rocker area are different than stock, this is another feature shared with #11

Early 914/4 and 914/6s had a different kontur on the fenders. the old design was used until 914.043.0052 on the six and 470.290.0444 on the fours. below is a side by side comparison, #12 is the red early type.

Hey Glenn
This may sound far out there but....I think that bracket may be for a small
orbital interior light. That bracket sure looks factory.
I have one around here somewhere. I'll keep an eye out for it.
Maybe there is a clue in the taped up black/red wires ?
Did you change out that 911 oil pipe yet ?

that is interesting, I would like to see a picture of the light you are refering to.
I will look at the wires today, good thought
the 911 oil line has been replaced with a NOS 914/6 pipe (good eye Rory)

All of this early 914 stuff is interesting. Thanks for sharing it.

It would take a keen eye to notice that there was ever a difference on early doors!

Doesn't #12 also have balsa-wood defrost vents?

Also looks like a decent hidden location for an electric trunk pop....but we know that was not factory.

I used to think that but after I had the fuel tank out I was able to get a better look and I am going to say probably fiberglass now
gms
here is another picture of the bracket, you can see that it is spot welded to the dash frame. the wires in the photo were hanging down way behind the bracket.

Ferry's 914 had the fuel door, maybe that's where they planned to put the knob?

The car is ready to be started but unfortunately the 914/6 oil hose set I bought is missing the union that connects the oil supply lines. I am going to take it off of my race car tomorrow or Sunday. If you have an extra let me know

I have a side shift transaxle in the car so I need a custom rear shift rod that does not hit the exhaust/heat exchangers.
I have set out:
Custom rod for sideshift in a 914/6
Early 4 cyl rod
Late 4 cyl sideshift rod

I used a conduit bender to make the 2 curves in the Early 4 cyl rod

Glenn - I need to make a side shift rod for my six. I have the same parts as you. Can you explain in more detail what you did. I'm having a hard time following what you did from the pics. It looks like you duplicated what you already had. I'm sure I'm missing something. Thanks.

Mark,
I spent some time refining the final product so now all I need to do is copy the contours. if you send me an early linkage I will bend it and then you will have a template.

It looks like the hole should be for a grub screw to fix a base sitting inside the stalk? Also looks like the narrow mirror body as per the later early cars

Love all the subtle differences and they were clearly still working out what worked and didn't prior to full blown production
