a separate entity like "West Coast Classic, LLC".

the upside is that this entity could actually have a working treasury to 'prime the pump' for an event - placing deposits, buying promotional materials, phone calls, postage...

the downside is that "all you gotta do" is get an attorney to form the Limited Liability corporation, elect officers, file a tax return every year, maintain a bank account, establish an audit procedure, and follow all the rules of a (presumptively) non-profit organization.

(despite having a couple-three million $ in assets, PCA National is a nonprofit...)

Get a pro to do it.....Bob Campbell on the 356 Registry does a few events a year...dunno if he would do one out of state but I'm sure that one could be found near a venue. Or even get one from PCA....not like they don't have anyone on staff...plus the events HAVE a track record of X amount of attendees.

The fee would be like 10-15% higher but there would be no head ache....

I am sure that Portland is beautiful....but I know this group would have such a blast in Vegas! w00t.gif
Besides, I am sure there is much less "rain" in the desert!

Portland is actually in a severe drought situation. We had a dryer winter her than both LA and Vegas.

Future results may vary.

I vote Portland. Nice area, good temps for tracks(on the right day), not a huge tourism spot, along with other perks. It is also just a few hours drive from home. Not to mention it puts the Coast in WCC. biggrin.gif

I vote Rugby, think about it we have Silverston, Brans Hatch and Donnington all with in a reasonable distance, Santa pod Drag Strip + there is historic Stratford so everyone could learn about Shakespears home and Birmingham so everyone could get confused by the accent and have their cas stolen. If not then Vegas Baby lets loose some money laugh.gif

Andy,

What about Blackpool? We could all freeze our bollocks off in the tower! ohmy.gif

Howard: "If 06 is to be a 914club event, then admin should handle it."
huh? the admins are just that, volunteers that keep this *website* up and running and make sure you guys get your daily 914club dosage. none of the current admins has any experience putting on such a event. the admins don't "own" the 914club. they don't have any special privileges. they don't get paid for their work. remember, there is no "914 Club"!
i'm not sure how an admin could have helped ...

the 914club can't help you set up WCC 06 because there is no 914club. there are certain individuals that will be able and willing to help, but don't expect help from "the club" as a organization, because there is no 914club.

am i getting my point across here?
beerchug.gif Andy

Point across very well, and I applaud you guys for the BBS.

But when I started to plan WCC05 I was expecting some input from the 'club'. None came. No problem, but I noticed Brad's post on the 'club' hiring a professional planner for 06. Not a bad idea, but it did sound like the 'club' did want to get involved.

Personal feelings here, and you can certainly delete this, but only one admin paid admission to the event. I had hoped one of you would speak, or get more involved, etc., so that was my reference in defense of the POC being 'a pain in the ass'.

On the money situation. All funds received went into a trust account, and bills have been paid from that account as received. Some of the stuff was on credit cards and not billed yet. Some things I have not yet received the bill.

I will post the final results as soon as all these bills are received and paid, but the rough numbers are:

$19,000 received from entry fees and sponsor donations and $13,500 expenses. So we will be donating ~$5500 to Special Olympics. This will done in a public presentation that will get (at least) local media.

and only one admin paid $1000 for the event brochures out of his own pocket ...
everyone get a magic marker and add my name on the back of your WCC t-shirts as a sponsor!

i suck as a public speaker (or karaoke singer), that's why i was hiding on both occasions ...
besides, you never asked ...

I wasnt even sure if I was attending the event until the day before.

Howard,

if you wanted us to say something.. you should have asked. I knew we had little to NO involvement..so "saying" anything didnt feel right. We have NO idea what we are doing. We do know that a lot of people like to gather in 1 common place a few times a year, and we use THIS BBS to help bring the people together. I wish I could have helped JeffB with the 04 event.. instead I built cars for the event so people could attend. I wish I could have helped you with this years event.. but we dont know what we are doing. This is all being "winged" by volunteers. I would love to bring in some pro's to help out (and I will if you keep complaining) When you use the words "suckers" it really really drives people from trying to hold events/gatherings. Why is it Sean and others can hold similar events and not piss and moan ?

You did an awesome job.. I know you didnt like the WCC04 because the "NorCal" guy's didnt hang out with the SoCal Guys.. some of us lived close by.. we didnt need to stay in the hotel. Again.. nobody knew what to do or how to do it.. The events will get better, but only if the volunteers have a deep rooted passion for the cars.

It would be awesome if the 914club could "fund" these events. How do we get it to that point ? I dont know how. I have some idea's.. and I'm actively searching for someone who can tell us what the next step should be.

I'm not sure what I could do from T town but, I'd like to help out for a Portland gig. I'd love to see a WCC there. If asphalt can be found it would be a gas. But, if it can't here is a real longshot. When PNWR PCA runs their AX at Bremerton there is a whole lot of empty asphalt that makes a real nice long AX course (I've run it for a driver skills day). The problem is it's a very long ways from Portland. Would people consider a combo Portland / Puget Sound WCC?

I have no idea if we could partner with the PCA or Bremerton Sports Car club at Bremerton but, the asphalt is there.

It seems to me the core activity is AX or track time and it seems that Portland could have a problem with that.

Vegas does have a lot to offer, but I don't know if it is the best place for a WCC.
1.) There is a lot of open desert to cross to get here.
2.) There are only short sections of twisty roads around town.
3.) Traffic really sucks heading back to Cali on Sunday.
4.) Limited number of Club members in town to help with planning.

Personally, I would rather go to Reno / Tahoe if that is a real option.
I volunteered my services just so we would have another option.
I really like the idea of moving the WCC around to as many cities as possible.
Anything 'West of the Rockies' qualifies as a potential site in my book.

VegasRacer pretty much summed up Vegas.
It's the entertainment, not the roads why people come.
Spring Mtn track in nice, not too expensive, probably available... but it's about an hour something to get to.
All our twisty roads are like .25 mile long and 20 miles to get there. The Lake Mead road (previous Boxster club trip) is like driving offroad now and patroled by federal cops.
True, the Summerlin casinos would love business... I mean a group like us, but Mt Charleston or the Red Rock loop can't accomodate 70+ cars above normal weekend activity.

And from the posts so far, I think group seperation is going to be a big problem with family members wanting to do everything but 914 stuff.

-SEMA is in November. Weather is nice in Nov. Hmmmm, the Terible Traffic Tour to the convention center for a walk among eye candy dry.gif

Vegas- a great place to play, but not for car clubs.

I'm up for Portland in June, July, or Aug - mainly cause I've never been there beerchug.gif I'll have plenty of vacation time and maybe some money even too.

Reno was nice in 02 or 03. I'd do that again.
