How do you replace the bushings (#25 in the illustration) in the shift rod coupling (#24)? This is a side shift trans.

Thanks!

You need to drive the pin out (#26 in the picture). That can be a real bear depending on the level of crud on it. A lot of PB Blaster and heat and either a press or a vice, drift, and large cheater bar.

I was having some trouble with the pin. I ended up cutting up a soda bottle and filling it with PB blaster. Soaked for 72(!) hours straight. I tried hammering it out once each evening until I finally got it on the third night of soaking. Maybe I was being a little too careful about cracking the weld on the fork of the shift rod, but I really didn’t want to find out.

Thanks all!

The thread posted by UROpartsman is perfect. Should be a sticky.

DickSteinkamp's question was how to replace the bushings, not where to buy them, or who makes them.
dr914@autoatlanta.com
we have made the delrin shift coupler bushings for years with the perfectly round hole ever since Porsche modified the original part number to resemble the oval hole of the 356 911 cars and if installed in a 914 caused shifter slop.

Please take not Drew! "we will NOT be undersold!!" (LOL)

Today only for all 914World members .01 shifter bushing sets (1 set only each), you pay the shipping (reg mail is the least expensive)

My thinks to all here (I'll also start another thread so all can see).

Free bump.
I have tried several bushing out there and most are not good. Got a set from Sierra Madre and they were over size on the pin hole and under size on the OD. Got some through Pelican and they were too tight on the OD and had to be drawn in with a bolt and nut. Porsche elongated to hole but no one likes them. Anxious to try Marks bushings. Have not tried AA or Uro. Seen enough problem with their other parts.

Mark, I love ya son but................those bronze bushings from pelican are soooooo nice. However at $50 bucks a pop + their usual shipping (HiJack) charge, yours are about %1000 cheaper. beerchug.gif
