To get this back a little bit on topic...
One of the first replies said that my new power to weight ratio will be better than a V8. Of course that is a stock 914 with a V8. I did kick around the idea of other engine types (-6, V8, V6, RX-7, Suby, even a 944 turbo), but I kept coming back to a T-IV. For simple reasons:
1. Cost (direct and indirect)
2. Ease of installation.
3. Lightweight
4. and to a lesser degree, it is the engine that came in the car.
If I were to go with a V8 I would have had to upgrade just about everything in the car. It would be a kickass ride but it would take another 6 months to a year to sort it out. Believe it or not I do like to drive the damn thing every once and awhile. For the record, I have driven two autocrosses this year.
That equals about 8 minutes of seat time. And I see only doing another 3 at most by the end of the year. The building of this monster has taken A LOT of time. It has been a blast, but man it has been slow.
One day I'll be done with the car and I'll go on the "URY National Tour" so everyone can see and drive it. I'll have write ups in magazines, I'll go on Top Gear and Matt Lauer will interview me on The Today Show (I'll tell Matt "You don't know 914's like I know 914's"). I'll use it as the pace car at the F1 race at Indy (OK, maybe if there is another F1 race at Indy). I'll get sponsorship from Hooter's....
Hey a guy can dream can't he
