My BB does not have a front tow hook or loop, evidently it was sacrificed when the A/C was installed in 74. I would really like to put a ring on the front somewhere and the front subframe mounting point seems to be a great spot for this.
I've seen pictures of 914 track cars with a loop at that spot. anyone out there know where to source one of these?
And then, can I just remove the subframe bolts to mount the ring without the torsion bar ruining the day?

Here is a link to a tow hook. Don’t have an answer for your other questions though.

yes you can do that - just look on any site that sells racing parts - most race venues require them - usually they will be RED - scca requires a 2" loop

- you could just buy a stock type that almost fits, then cut a U into it & drill 2 holes to mount it at the front susp point where the torsion bar connects

- OR buy the ones that fit 911-914

picture of type that Rennline sold - maybe still does

I have those on the wife's teen, I was going to put them on my car but IMHO they suck because they hang too low. The things are brand new and one is already bent. They also offer no protection like the stock part.

I have a similar need. I’m concerned about the day I might need a flat tow… how to get it on the flatbed without messing something up.
I’d like one that clears the LE spoiler like on the #64 car in this thread: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=337038

Another tow hook thread: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=91455

Here’s what I found online but no joy as yet. Wish someone would make one similar to Jman version with SCCA style loop that clears the spoiler:

Jman (wider loop and low profile, but out of stock) - like photo shared by @larrym : https://jmanporscheparts.com/custom-parts

Track arm plate (for 74 911, unclear if this fits 914): http://www.autoatlanta.com/results.php?par...0341%20037%2002

Rennline for Porsche (not listed for 914; a smaller loop than Jman and taller – could catch curb or driveway?): https://www.rennline.com/Rennline-Front-Tow...roductinfo/E03/

Pelican offering same as Rennline for 914: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/RENE...SAaAjrVEALw_wcB

Ebay offering same as Rennline for 914: Set of 4 tow hooks $95: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-912-91...5.c100036.m2109

914werke flat tow bracket $159: https://914werke.com/shop/ols/products/flat-tow-bracket

Racetech tow loop might work in a pinch: https://store.windingroad.com/racetech-tow-loop

I dont think any of those will clear the front valance.

I slipped one in between the bottom of the front bumper and the front valance. Just a flat ~12" long red tow hook and then bolted it to front trunk. I have a 75 though and used the old bumper mounting spots.

I have see a 911 protection cap for the torsion A-arms with an integral loop.

We have a tow bar may help. It will offer more lateral support and more area to hook onto.
$125 comes with mounting hardware
We made it to work with the LE air dam

Made from 3/8" steel plate

My solution.

Can you imagine what would happen during an accident catching that torsion bar on a curb? unsure.gif
There's a reason for the wedge shaped stock cap.

And WTF with all the RTV? blink.gif

Like I said the wife's rennline front hooks one is already bent.
I want a hook as well, but I think Ill do something like VegasRacer's solution.
