Here’s an easy one

When converting a 4 to a 6 is it necessary to use six relay board.
Thanks

Nope

Actually it’s not always necessary to use one at all.

Thanks Mark

I think Perry still does custom harnesses for whatever board or no-board you want to run:

Still on my to-buy list

I removed mine completely and used a PMS adapter harness which plugs in directly to the /4 main chassis harness and goes to the /6 engine.

Did the same on my 3.2. Easy peasy.

Another option is to retain the -4 relay board / cover, if you're after more of an original look and you're swapping in a period correct 6 (requiring an external voltage regulator). Just need an engine harness to match up to the connector.

Not only does Perry build a great engine harness, he also explains it well. Plug and play.Click to view attachment Click to view attachment

no not at all and very very cost prohibitive.

I in my pamphlet 914-6 conversion guide or "what you are getting yourself into" have the wiring harness diagrams showing how to use the four board with a six engine

Typically not needed with a six and I removed mine.
From what I remember, what's on the board?
1. Fuel pump connection. With my 2.7 it was easier to wire up a separate fuse for the fuel pump. 3.2 and 3.6 fuel injection have separate connections for this anyway.
2. Heater fan relay. Not needed with a six conversion
3. Regulator. Most sixes already have a built in regulator
4. 914-4 Fuel injection. Not needed
5. ? Rear window defogger. Does yours have one? Either keep the board or rewire it.

Similar on mine, removed the relay board and brackets. Makes it nicer to access oil tank stuff.
