Where does one go to buy a copy of Excellence from a newstand around SF - I haven't seen it anywhere.....??????
EDIT: Argh. I guess I can't hang around here and put my personal opinions on the line here, either. Next time someone tells you to "do what you love," think carefully about it. There are ups AND downs to it.
Why do you say that?
It would be a shame if you felt like you can't hang around and put your personal opinions on the line here.
That'd be a real loss for this site, hopefully a few malcontents don't have the power to cause that to happen.
Don't worry, I don't mind dealing with critics -- or listening to them.
This thread is just a reminder that there are those out there who, as car people, don't like/aren't interested in what others are doing if it doesn't match what they're into. They're our customers, too. Not the only customers, but I don't see the benefit in fighting with them.
So I realized that, even here, I don't get to be just myself because it IS related to my job. Especially when people start talking about canceling subscriptions in protest. That ain't good.
I'm learning something from this, but then we learn something from everything if we pay attention. Doesn't mean we necessarily change our direction.
I guess I appreciate car nuts who like just about anything if it's done well. Maybe that's just another way of saying I like car nuts like me. I dig Porsches above just about everything else, but I still love a ton of different cars. Sierra Cosworths, E30 M3s, Brock Daytona Coupes, Muiras, 2000 GTs, Delta Integrales, Euro A1 GTIs, 6.3s, S8s, 288 GTOs, and the list goes on.
There are many other areas of the hobby that aren't for me, but when I see a Datsun 510 *perfectly* set up, or an insane Chevelle with great paint and perfect stance, or a perfect Woody (stock or rodded), or a crazy Harley custom chopper (but it's better be good). I wouldn't pick any of them, and don't really want any of them in my garage...
...but you know how you feel when you see a car/truck/bike/boat/plane that is crazy well done -- even though it's not YOUR thing?
"Car enthusiasm," in my book, doesn't get any purer or more exciting than in those moments. But I realize that not everyone approaches the hobby in the same way and you gotta respect that.
And I *do* respect the purists. I just don't always agree with 'em.
