What do you think of the bag? The first one to get finished is yellow. And I wanted to get your feedback on it.

Last year we bought a company that makes gear for aviation enthusiasts, with the idea of branching it into motoring gear. The first thing we developed is a hand-made travel bag, using Porsche Tartan and Houndstooth cloth, and leather. It is designed and manufactured as close to the bags Porsche offered in the 50s and 60s, as possible.

Tell me what you think?

EDIT:

SIZE:
21” long x 11.75” wide x 10” tall

We also have a slightly larger bag, as well as one that is smaller.

We designed the bags specifically to fit 914 and 911 front trunks. We used Porsche’s bags from the 50s and 60s as models, for dimensions and styling. We have the large bag shown, as well as a smaller bag. And a matching hat, as well.

COLORS/PATTERNS:
We currently are producing the bags in Porsche 914 Tartan in the colors/patterns below, as well as Porsche Houndstooth in the colors below. It is possible that we could produce them in custom materials other than these 16 colors/patterns. But, these are hand-made and require a lot of time and effort to make correctly. Right now, we are focused on producing them in these materials.

PRICING:
These are hand-made, professionally, in the USA. When I started this project 8 months ago, my goal was to produce the bag and sell it at a price of $199. We accomplished that goal, with Houndstooth. However, the Porsche Tartan cloth is much more expensive. $139/yard, to be exact. The bag takes about a yard of fabric, including the main fabric and leather. This is where we are at on introductory pricing:

Tartan - $245
Houndstooth - $195

We are anticipating the pricing to go up to $295 on the Tartan after an introductory period. But, I would like to hear your thoughts on the pricing as well. The cloth is expensive, and the amount of time and effort to build one astonishes me. I could build a 914 engine quicker than it takes to do these correctly. But, hand-made is hand-made. :-)

The bags are now available on our website - redlinenine.com
For January, we are giving 914world members a discount of $50 off the travel bag, and $65 off of the travel bag/tote combo. PM me and I will send you the code.

Are you using Split or Full Grain leather? Full is much more durable and ages nice.

Looks great. How much and how much fabric do you need per bag? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

Guess I needed to read a little closer. I just blew by the description and went straight to the pictures. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Same here. I re-did my interior with 914Rubber's seat covers and it would be fun to buy my wife a travel bag with the same material...

If it's a matter of getting the material for each order, I have extra from my interior refresh, which is why I asked how much fabric do you need for each bag. Great idea.

I'd be interested if you could do "custom" tartans....something different than the factory tartans that came on the cars.

I was looking to have inserts done for my seats and found a Website.
Asked for a sample, the material feels very durable.
