(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Sadly, I spotted on an IG site called "onlyinglendale". Their latest reel has a late model red 914 with painted sails and 4 lug Fuchs burning down on Brand Blvd. Anyone on here know about the car or the owner? Car looked to be nicely painted and well maintained, appearance wise except for the 3' flames coming out of the engine bay and the interior. Glendale Louisiana, Wisconsin, or California? (Sorry, couldn't resist) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) Hate it for the car owner, looked like a pristine example? |

On a more serious note, is there a readily available fuel line hose other than gates??
I just had to tighten a loose fuel line clamp, can’t remember what brand line I used, but had fixed/ replaced it about 2 years ago, loosened over time, and I don t drive the car much, few time s a year. I Did use FI type clamps. |

If the clamp loosens over time, I would blame the clamp not the fuel line. |

But I prefer to use the R9 hose for any FI applications. Does not have to be Gates brand. The SAE specific rating qualifies it for use with ethanol fuels. Zach |

moral of the story.
check your engine bay after you start up. have a torch handy. give it good perv. stick your head down and take a big deep breath from under the right hand side rocker in front of the rear wheel. ready to drive. but before commencing the driving position get down on your knees and pray to god. you can never be too careful with these babies. i mean i knew 914s were burners when i bought mine as a dumb arse vacant headed australian wandering the streets of chicago in 1989. ..........and nothings changed. look after your cars, buy a fire extinguisher. and keep on rolling. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drunk.gif) i seem to recall there is one hill in wisconsin. if my failed memory serves me correctly i visited said hill to watch the rolling stones on their steel wheels tour having driven up from chicago. chicago being dead flat. i believe the claimed hill was some kind of ski resort. i wouldn't know for sure. it was summer. I might be inclined to agree with you if it weren't for the fact that all 8 in the engine compartment & both beneath the fuel will loosen on my '73. Also, wouldn't it take a tremendous amount of force to stretch the metal band on a proper FI style clamp? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) |

I can tell from the Verdugo "Hills" that that IS Glendale CA. I've been to both Glendale AZ and Pasadena TX and I won't say they don't count but very different from each other. RE: Fires. I agree with Kent on checking the hose clamps loosening and here's my theory about that: The rubber compound on the newer fuel lines is a harder durometer then the original lines and is harder to compress. The fuel clamps if you look closely have a fine thread as opposed to the worm drive type clamps. Given the quality of machined parts nowdays the threads have more tolerance and poorer quality than the originals. When I redid my fuel lines I used the original fuel clamps for this reason. Ugly looking but better. Just my thoughts. |

Exactly why shouldered clamps work so well.
