im just curious, but would a roll cage have mitigated most of the damage (to both property and person)?

hearing stories like this really makes me want a roll cage in my car, if anything, for extra strength and protection

i dont think that a cage would have helped, might have been worse injuries, no helmet, banging head, legs, arms on cage, the car absorbed impact[=g-forces] the way you would want it to.

Glad you two are mostly OK.

This reminds me of my first 914. Back when I was young, stupid and feeling invincible, I had been driving this section of road faster and faster over a few nights. Turns out that about 90-100 was the max. A bit of drop throttle oversteer (probably a result of some pucker factor midway through the corner) resulted in me leaving the roadway sideways and catching a pole just behind the door handle on the passenger side. Luckily the pole wasn't larger than it was. It broke vs. bringing the car to an immediate stop. My car looked a bit worse, but similar to yours. Amazingly I walked away with only scratches and bruises.

Glad your both alright. Have you looked at the passenger side spring perch? Maybe that snap ring failed, dropping that side starting the spin. I seem to remember you had a problem with that before. Again very happy you both walked with out serious injury.

Miguel,

You dumb friggen Pollack, I'm glad you lived!

Seriously, I'm glad you're OK and I'll call you tonight. Too bad about the car, having just got it sorted. I'm sure a doner body will come up for all of the good parts.

Now get back to work on what is important!

So here is the rest of the "carnage":

(IMG:http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b188/type11969/bustedface.jpg)

All in all not too bad, especially after looking at the pics of the 914 in the lot. Definitely lucky that the impact wasn't 6-12" back! As for the rollcage question, I am probably lucky there was not one in the car. If I bashed my head on a cage bar instead of the window I think I wouldn't be typing this right now. Think of it this way, as the car crashes and crumples, it absorbs the energy of the impact. With a cage, if the car is that rigid, the car won't crumple as much and the shock load transfered to the occupants is that much worse. With a cage you definitely need to run 5 point harnesses.

Anyway, I'm still standing, a few stitches and some busted teeth. Eye doc checked out my right eye (thats why it looks so crazy in that pic, you may even be able to see my brain through that enormus pupil), no problems. Dentist already build up some temp teeth out of epoxy so I can eat. Probably going to need some root canals and caps. Funny thing is that about 3 weeks ago I had two of my teeth broken when someone took a cheap shot at me in a bar in NYC. Dentist just got those fixed up. Those two broke again along with two new teeth. Gotta stop using my mouth as my line of defense.

So yeah, the weekend ended on a rough note, but it certainly wasn't all bad. My bus ran great the whole weekend. I got some good deals at the Porsche swap and saw some cool cars. Got to bump in to/meet some of you. Got to hang/become friends with Evil, his lovely fiancee, and hottie soon to be sister in law. Minus the accident it was a pretty damn good weekend!

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif) Woah, Chris, you look even eviler in that survival pic than the good doctor, and that's evil in a GOOD way. Your attitude is wonderful, and it's true, chicks dig scars. We dig "Terminator Eye" too! Hey, there's a saying that whatever doesn't kill ya' makes ya' stronger. You're lookin' strong, sir! Heal well, and the same goes for your partner in road recon... he's my hero, donchaknow. NOT for the accident, but for surviving it, with himself and you intact. The car will be resurrected even better. The whole club is behind the endeavor.
We love our Evil.
