To elaborate on the EZ wiring harness....it was CHEAP and it was all there and they (manufacturer) were very helpful but I am afraid that is all I can offer....I had to modify it a bit as it is designed for the hotrods (front engine). BUT if I did it right which as a non electrical guru I would say I have a 90% or better chance that it is goinna work. it was well woth it and it is CLEAN and all new (AKA no OWI old wire issues)

ALSO to be noted...I cannot imagine trying to do this new harness for a factory car with all the goodies that came stock....This has basic lights and wipers and gauges nothing more.

I'm doing the same thing in the Healey right now! I have the 12 curcuit and had to add one for the electric cooling fan. But it was cheap and it's new.

Nice project! popcorn[1].gif

PS: looking good!
degreeoff
Believe me Andy, that is a Xmas present long in the coming....hopefully short in the completion and short in issues?????
degreeoff
OK so I am one tired SOB!!! yawn.gif It has been 3 days of nonstop nonsense! BUT the plus side is that for all intents and purposes I am done with the mechanical BS. Things left to do are add oil (anyone know how much??? add gas add battery (hope there are no zap zap EEeewwww what the hell is burnin?) add spark plugs and add the oil tank to case breather hose.......

Because I want to be sure of running state before I leave Thursday for a 10 day ski VACA and before I put BEAUtiful paint on.....

So tomorrow I shall...........

Source a oil hose.....install.........

Set timing and verify plug order on my new age fandangled HPX crankfire setup..............

Add battery...check for proper circut workings.........

Add oil and crank her over without spark plugs to build oil pressure........

Add gas and turn on the pump making sure the carbs are not spilling over and or leaking from a fuel line I forgot to tighten.....

Grab my handy dandy class SUPER DUPER fire extinguisher..........

Sit in car, say my prayers TWICE pray.gif pray.gif and flip the fuel pump switch, flip the ignition switch and turn her over ........

WISH ME LUCK!!!!! cheer.gif and for GODS sake if I am forgetting anything let me know!!!!!!!!!

And of course if she runs as well as I hope she does I will most likley spin her around the block!!! driving.gif

I love seeing your work come along. Looking forward to seeing it all finished. beerchug.gif
crash914
WoW!!! no motor no seats on Saturday to this!!!!

rock on!!!
degreeoff
Well no joy.....spent 3 hours looking for a damn tube for the breather, then 2 hours diagnosing issues with my 'one size fits all' wiring harness. Then oil pressure with no plugs in was not reading after 9 qts added, then fuel pump was putting out 8 PSI and gas leaked from one barrel and down the throat of another....turned the regulator down to 3.5 easy still need to pop the carbs off and check them again....BUT all this on another day!! I am outta town for a 10 day VACA....until next time.......PEACE!! BTW should oil pressure read spinning fast like that w/o plugs? Never could get the idiot light to work....hmmmm

IT LIVES!!!!!! After much work and sweat a couple cuts and much cussing as well as a few posts on the bird board and calls to Clewitt engineering and electromotive a singe $.20 part (1k ohm resister ) and she sputtered to life........

sounds good and smoked like a bitch (mainly from the cheezy exhaust paint from a evilbayer) no CRASH GRIND BANG!! (ok a couple out of the carbs.... biggrin.gif ) no I am out to see if she will tune a bit (carb work)....

Wish me luck!!!

Josh the grateful!!!
Chris Pincetich
AWESOME beerchug.gif
good luck with all that remains!
brer
beerchug.gif

simply amazing.
When all the stock parts on my car wear out I'm going to do this.

can I ask what brand paint and the color of your primer?
J P Stein
Yes!
Mine rumbled to life again a week ago Sunday.
Feels good, don't it. beer.gif
degreeoff
The color is POR137....and the primer is just grey all by Dupont (chroma base/ Nason clear. The only problem I am now having is my fuel pressure was dropping and I dont know why?? But I will figure it out. The pump is mounted high so I think it may be that but who knows? It could also be a fuel pickup problem as I had to dump 5 gallons in it to get it to start to draw.....BUT all in all it is looking good and I was able to put the car in all gears today and roll forward and back under power!!!!
Twise
Real nice - got me thinking about my next project...????
crash914
congrats!!!

I just got back and missed your call.....now to kick mine in gear....

rolling under power sure puts a smile on your face doesn't it...
gotxqss
AWESOME MAN!!!!!!!! Simply LLOOOVVVVEEE the color. Attention to detail is what its all about. wouldn't change much on a dream build!

hope someday I got the funds to make that happen
degreeoff
Well now I gone an broke the law today with a quick drive down the block! aside from the tears all be it joy , surprise or the fact that there is no windshield....the world may never know! I'll say this once it gets on cam...... pray.gif Now I have a few MORE issues....

seems to run pretty good although my fuel pressure is wacky after relocating the pump, so it may be a bad regulator or gauge??

also there seems a bit more popping through the carbs than I would like.....

also the first second reverse gears are way STIFF.....I had to make the rod so I think I may have screwed it up a bit as the bushings are all good...?

BUT on the flip side there are very minor weeps in the way of oil and no PUDDLES!!!!!

YOU TOO CAN REBUILD A 9elben engine.....

Josh
degreeoff
linky linky me and pinky! And yes it is running RICH!! But my guy said I need to seat the rings and such before we can tune it properly....

Can't wait to see the 73 RS you build, you have been an inspiration.

Keep the updates coming,

Hey Josh,

Summer is almost here. poke.gif Wuzup wit' yer ride??? biggrin.gif

Is the engine in yet?

popcorn[1].gif
degreeoff
well the new toy came in today!! Hard as hell to get that thing off a trailer and set up weighing in at a measly 800lbs!! THIS is the $949 39"lift from Harbor freight.....I am ALL for american made but this thing works VERY well and is 1/3d the price....for a bunch of heavy steel. So being the CSOB that I am I went this route! piratenanner.gif

crash914
damn, I was at the laurel HF earlier today....could have helped...
crash914
looks like it would be easy to mount the rotisserie also...
degreeoff
Its all good Herb, they forklifted it onto the car hauler trailer and I had em set it on the 4 1000lb ($9.99 each) mini dollies (which I will use for my alignments) and I basicly rolled it off the trailer and onto a jack and off a jack and on a jack until it was far enough off the trailer to use the built in doohickiemagigy(on the pump) for moving it around the floor (its semi portable that way)
degreeoff
Yep good for that as I WILL build a RS (73ish) replica next .....welll in a couple years!
degreeoff
well we be paintin....and striping and....what was I talking about????

(sorry the fumes are getting to me!) A few runs and a bit 'o' dust but 3 clear coats = wet sand + buff right out......

crash914
looking good....

I just bought some paint myself.....got to finish the body work......
degreeoff
Hey Herb, maybe you could get it together in time for the autoX @ baysox stadium on 4/26....thats my NEW goal!!
crash914
tempting...but....

engine and trans yes, body most likely not...the re-assembly will be a bitch....
jonferns
Hey, is that a white stripe? Looks great
degreeoff
ahhhh yup!. Took it for a lil spin again today, after I buffed out the clear...not perfect but close enough for a garage job and racer....I can smell the end. All electrical gremlins addressed and all lights/wipers/etc etc is in good order so all thats left is the bolt on bits and install glass and GO BABY! Pulls like a beast as I hit 65 into 3d on a very short stretch of road! So far the cam seems to come on @ 2500 or so?
crash914
sweet!! bring it on by when you are out shaking it down....
Zardozz
Took me almost an hour to read all of this and I have to say one of the best hours of my life. Most impressive...mostest impressive. I think I'm going to go work on my sticky door hardware now smile.gif
plas76targa
Josh - I did the autoX school and hope to go on 4/26. Then maybe drive up to Hershey to catch up with the gang where ever they are. Follow me up or visa versa!
crash914
Matt, did you try the tach yet?

Herb, yer showin yer age.. it was a spedometer. I did get it hooked up before going to the autocross school. Works fine except with my 50 series tires it reads high by about 10%..
crash914

Matt,
Do you still need that speedo I have saved for you? Sounds like you got one somewhere else 'cause I lammed out and didn't send you this one I have? confused24.gif
plas76targa
Rod you didn't "lamm out" on me. Herb just loaned that on to me.
degreeoff
Hey Matt, sorry had to run out of town for a family affair up nawth....I will try, BUT I do not know how my beastie will be as it'll still not be broken in enough for that trip??? We shall see?
degreeoff
OK so after yet another trip up nawth for a funneral (2nd to last bit 'o' blood relation on fathers side) I am back at it. Details Details Details !!! What has been done
-lights in and lenses in
-weather srtipping in
-windshield and rear window in
- painted the top (with stripe), top hold downs etc, doors (with # circles), head light covers and eyebrows, windshield wipers, wheels, valances, side enginge grill covers and side skirts WHEW!

ONLY 7 PIECES LEFT! ( the hoods, bumpers, valances and engine lid all of which need to be striped....jeez am I glad this is almost over! (Need more clear coat bringing the total paint volume up to 5 gallons{unmixed} or so including primer!) driving.gif
