Well its been a while folks I realize.
The skinny and FAT! is this @ my last autoX the guru of track planning and TTOD was following me up toi the course for a breif time. Once there he informs me that the car is smoking and blowing blue smoke........well the weekend after this event I was scheduled to truck my ass a car trailer and my girl up to watkins glen for my first DE w/PCA.....so I ask am I going to be black flagged for this. He states that I may and said he'd keep an eye on my throughout the day to see if it got worse.
Well I am now running 245/50 R compond tires on the ride to wear em in a bit and on my first run I hear a healthy CLUNK and finish my pass. After coming to a stop I ask if he saw smoke or not and he said no......it looked good and so I am thinking GREAT! (it should be noted that before the day started I also had another guru of 911 land come up and check out the ride and he looked at my home tune on the crankfire unit and said I was retarded.....:-P way too much and recomended I up the initial a fair bit, car ran like a scat rat first pass BTW)
I also had not been able to get my rickity old (68) carbs to sync and run right (always rich or alway lean and no in between (many many jets later and a carb guru as well!)
Well back to the pit line I go and notice a wierd smell....like burning rubber? I think wtf? as I get in and take it out of gear to roll down the line I notice the car will not roll..........SO having had a simalar issue WAY back when I first did a rough alignment I thought maybe a tire had worked over a bit and started rubbing the fender. SURE NUFF! BAD too so bad I could not do a fix there and hitched a ride back to my house from Matt to get my van and trailer. I remember while doing my alignment at the shop we damn near run out of travel for toe in on the RR and also saw a bit of looseness in the inner ear hole so I am thinking that the arm is moving around in the inner ear hole and no amoount of tightening will fix it.
Well I am fed up! I have had enough and dumped a shitload of time and $$$ into her and was like SCREW this and parked it and spent the summer sailing (I didnt even look at the suspensuion until a week ago)
To summarize:
too much money and time in too short a period of time = unhappiness/fuck it/fatalism
in the meantime I was able to find just the right buyer for my IDS carbs to the tune of $2500 for just the carbs no linkage maniflds K&N etc so I sold em and got on the 3 month wait with PMO. They just came in after a 4 MONTH wait and a 2 week ups tour of the country, and now I just need to get the left side tall manifold that is 37/40 as opposed to the mismatch 37/46! and I should be able to crank her up again and either make the final DE @ Summit the last weekend of the month or do the Sterling suds and buds deal?
Oh did I mention I welded a litle bit of the hole on the ear only to realize that the outer mount had slipped due to SO MUCH FKIN sticky rubber?
Now if I can only rule out my theory of rings and cylinders that glazed over due to too much raw gas injected at first startup after rebuild....(damn crankfire issues) I will be in like flint!!!!
Wish me luck??!! and here is a little eye candy for the most expensive single car part buy of my LIFE!
