Registration for the SIG Targa is full with a collage of 52 Porsches. If you missed signing up I hope you still come out to RD for the open house. We'll try to slide you in to the Targa as there is bound to be a couple of no shows. Please contact me if you'd like to be on an unofficial waiting list and I'll see what I can do.
-John

I didn't want to take up a spot and not go, but I'm hoping to go down to RD in the AM.
Mark Henry
Doug Ford announced group gatherings of more than 10 inside and 25 outside are not allowed with huge fines in place. Ontario has an up tick in covid cases. I'm not going to be surprised if the open house gets cancelled this year. I imagine there will be an announcement one way or the other shortly.

Sometimes it sucks to be correct, PCA UCR club site now says the SIG Targa driving tour and the Restoration Design open house and also the Sat Oct.3 Show & Shine are all cancelled. sad.gif

I will confirm that the open house and SIG Tour are cancelled. Unfortunately the Ontario Government has reduced the amount of people for indoor gatherings to 10. Which is not really feasible for us to do guided tours while potentially 25 people are waiting outside.

We will have to wait till next year. We will be doing a drone fly through in the next couple weeks and putting that on our social media. When that is up I will let the world know.

Terry Fox 911

Us Canucks are celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend.

I'm feeling particularly thankful for all the healthy kids in my Grade 4 class. On Friday, the kids painted my 911 to raise awareness for their fundraising effort in support of the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Terry's Marathon of Hope.

With the COVID situation, this year's fundraising effort is pretty abysmal. There is certainly no expectation or pressure on anyone to donate, but if this is a cause close to your heart and you'd like to make some kids smile here is the link to our fundraising page at the Terry Fox Foundation.

Please Click Here to Help Kids Reach Their Goal

Sir Andy, if this is inappropriate content feel free to strike it down. I think in times like these it is pretty cool to see kids taking action for good causes.

I wish I could share with you pictures of them painting the car and then parading the neighbourhood with banners. They would be sure to make you smile.

The kids were completely stoked to paint a Porsche and the car drew lots of attention and photo ops in front of the school.

Have a great holiday weekend!

Thanks!

John

The #40 Sonauto has actually set the new benchmark for 914 sales...as Porsche says in some of their adverts: "Nothing even comes close". In this case, Brutus, the O. Chandler 916, Duval m471, all sold way South of #40. Price cannot be disclosed as an agreement between the parties . Side note: the #86 BFG in the pic , which was part of the acquisition...is featured in this month's 000 Magazine (issue 16). The BFG Radials T/A (street tires) equipped on 2 924GTR race cars entered in the 1982 LM24 hour.

You hold an amazing privilege to be the custodian of that car, and we are all happy that you have it in your care! Price tag aside, its pedigree ranks it as number 1. So sad we did not get the opportunity in 2020 to proceed with our planned Sonauto tribute at Mosport. Perhaps we can double the celebration this year with the 50th of Jacques Duval's win. Can you tell us if there is any hope of a 2021 Rennsport Reunion?

Hi John @14carrot , not sure about the Lüft shows and their schedules. Patrick Long, Jeff Zwart and Howie Idelson are the show's founders and they are the key people in arranging these shows. I (just like you) find out via media as far as dates & place . "Hopefully" they start right in with an East Coast/ USA show...as originally planned for North Carolina aktion035.gif

Hi everyone,

I got a referral from John Tipper to join the group. I have a 1970 914. It was pretty mangled when I got it, and far from original, but I am slowly restoring it to a decent shape. Rebuilt the transmission, upgraded the 1.7L to 2056cc, and have been working on smaller projects like suspension, etc.

Look forward to meeting everyone as the weather warms up. Car is currently on the road and the only thing that got me through COVID lockdown. Will post some pictures once I figure out how to setup a link or attach an image. Its giving me grief.

Cheers,
Brad

Yes, likely. The car spent a considerable amount of time in BC before being in Ontario, but don't know much more than that. Also has the rear defroster windows. Has a replacement engine (from a '72), and has all sorts of strange mods such as GT fiber glass fenders on the rear, but not front. I love my 914, but its clearly had many different owners with different visions.

Question for the group - does anyone know who owns the red 914 that is often driven through Orangeville? Has the luggage rack on the back. Have spotted him multiple times, but am always in my Jeep and never at a stoplight.

PS, no need to check VIN. It already tells you that it is a '73, which you already knew as it is the only year for 1.7 and sideshift.

I could be interested in the entire drivetrain if the engine turns.

What a shame. Willow green is one of my most absolute favourite colours. Ahhh, so white originally? Good windshield? Looking for an original. Surprising that there could be a ton of good parts on there.

Looks like a pretty light restoration for a Canadian car. Did I see this previously advertised at Beverly Hills Car Club?

They won't fit my car... not sure what they are worth. Riley wants me to keep the fuchs for possible future cars but I'm not convinced. I have all four. There's a steel wheel on the other side of the car and the wheel/tire that was in the trunk even has a tire (Michelin from the period) that looks good. There's a few things I want but the engine/trans are up for grabs. Don't know yet if the engine is seized. Air filter and everthing is there, as far as I know it was running when it was parked but that's forever ago. And it was in the North Bay area, looks to me like it was sitting outside.. Did have a closed engine lid with the rain catchers intact. I think it started out white.

I am uncertain what you want here. If you want to lower the rpms while cruising in top gear then that could be a bit of a challenge. The 914 has a fifth gear code ZD which is the highest normally available gear set. No 911 even used a gear that high. In fact, the 914/4 is actually lugging the engine in 5th at normal legal speeds; the choice the factory made to maximize fuel economy back in the day, but insufficient airflow to properly cool the heads it has been claimed. On the other hand, there a lot of choices below ZD available.

I'd like to take time to introduce you to the origin of my affliction, my brother-in-law Mark. Mark bought his 1973 914 in 1984 and restored it in his carport. After I drove Mark's car I had to have my own and bought my first in '87. It's been an ongoing addiction ever since. Mark's car features a 2 L rebuilt by Uli Furtmair. It is finished in the original color Bahia red and sports 5 bolt Fuchs style wheels. Dave N ( Slyder) just went over the car for Mark after sitting for 6 years. Dave P rebuilt the rear calipers. The car is now back in service and Mark is a very happy man. I hope we see Mark and all of you together soon.

Patrick, I'm interested in the transmission, I need a couple of cores.
Good score, lots of good parts to harvest.

I have 3 side shift transmissions besides the one in the car I'm driving. I'd like to wind up with a spare that's got a higher final gear that's been freshend. Maybe we can work a deal....

Cool, could you shoot me a PM, I'm sure we can work something out.

Dave I don't know if you remember Patrick's silver teen, but he has a VW diesel (IIRC turbo) conversion, so his gearing choices will be quite different.
