Sorry for the delay... this went on the back burner for awhile, as my wife got really sick with something called Polymyositis. Sucked for several months, but her treatment is going well enough that we're planning to do some car events and maybe a rally in Colorado next spring.

Anyway, the oil lines were slow going but thanks to the expertise of Brad @911Rennen and Marty's generosity, they are finally finished. Also completed the handbrake, solved the adjustment issue with a simple plate... they work perfectly.

So, engine and transmission are in, we might actually finish this thing before the end of the year.

happy11.gif Me too... will post that when it happens. It's a twin-plug 2.8 built on a 5R mag case, S crank, cams and heads, 46mm Italian Webers, real Bosch dizzy. We lightened the compression to 9.3/1 so it'll be happy on pump gas. Probably gonna be louder than expected.

Ever hear the phrase “Don’t hate me because I am beautiful “? Certainly applies to everything that you have shown us. So very great!

Nice build..

You may want to let the shop know that the trans cup washers are installed upside down.

Hey Luke the upside down cups might be a deliberate choice.
It could be done to provide stiffer location of engine / trans for improved shifting etc.
Beautiful work all around.

This is quite an inspirational GT build. This especially true for me as I move forward on my own GT conversion project. I love the attention to detail and correct historical accuracy.

agree.gif Thank you, that's exactly why they're installed this way. Appreciate the kind words... and thanks Tom, the effort is worth it.

More detail of handbrake install. Thought we may have to modify 911 cables, but stock ones fit perfectly. This mod was way easier than anticipated, mounting plate for adjustment and a small bracket to keep the cables away from the headers.

Will also be wrapped with heat barrier.

I got back on to check your progress. Very nice and what a factory six deserves!!! Proud to see what you have done to my former car. Keep up the good work and enjoy it as much as I did!!! first.gif

You’re crushing it. Really well done.

Getting close. Off to the trimmer for interior and exterior finishing touches. Afterwards, final tune and shakedown, can't wait to hit the country roads around Highlands NC this June. piratenanner.gif

All of the niggly bits are being completed, will post photos as the punch list is addressed.

Hit an unfortunate snag with the roll bar: factory GT roofs are bolted in place, I thought it would be nice to take the roof off occasionally.

So we need to modify the bar because the latches aren't accessible, not sure we'll get that done in time for Highlands next month. Stay tuned.

Probably my all-time favorite non-dealer license plate frame for a Porsche. Car looks great - you'll get there and it'll be exactly like you want it!
Bullethead
Thanks Brian, my favorite too... have them on all five of our Porsches!

Door cards and rubber mats came out nice, will fit the Perlon next.

Had planned to make a box for the passenger door, but found these mesh pockets on Amazon for cheap so applied to both doors.

@Bullethead ...Russ, have your fabricator make these compound bends of the Left + Right ends on the top bar, a bit of work>> but I like it when the 914 tops can be removed. OE latches work with this design.

smilie_pokal.gif Thanks, was just out for an evening drive and something similar jogged in my head. Moving the top tube inward a couple of inches will clear the latches, and the cross tubes can be moved down to accommodate.

Russ, Looks great. I love the attention to detail.

Mine is at about the same point as yours. Ready for glass and interior trim.

I am using Chris Foley's (Tangerine Racing) GT roll bar. Test fitting seemed to indicate that there will be enough room for the rear Targa latches. Fingers crossed on that.

Trunk is done, fancied up a bit with a Perlon mat. Restoring the jack. Installed Porsche crest, new wheel. Off to a four-wheel alignment next Tuesday...

Both trunks are done and tomorrow the rest of the interior will be finished. Need to put some miles on before it's shipped to Highlands on Monday. More images then.

Meanwhile, the engine grill is high on the right as can be seen in the photo. Anyone have an idea of how to get it even? Feels like the springs are holding it up.

Hey Russ...The car looks great! Bet you can't wait to give it some exercise.

A question on the GT front hood prop: The springs on the one I bought from PMB are not strong enough to hold the prop against the inside pf the hood when closed. Did you have any issues with yours?
morehills
I struggled with the same problem Tom. I wound the spring an extra time to get enough tension but it would pull off the bend in the bar, so I hacked a little cable clamp. Not the most elegant, but it works. John

Thanks John

I figured that some type of clamp or clasp would be the solution.

Incredible build. Not that many vintage factory race cars that can be essentially replicated today. But it can be done with the 914-6 GT.

Takes a Hugh commitment. Super well done!!

Hey Tom, PMB's prop worked fine in it's OG configuration... but won't for a GT tank! It's symmetrical, and the GT tank has a fuel hose smack in the middle, so what works is asymmetrical. I made a new one using their springs and it's inadequate. Will re-do when we get back after next week in NC.

Winding down to the finish... sort of. There are a few niggly items that need massaging/correction/replacement/etc. The roll bar must be redesigned to work with a removeable top. The engine lid doesn't fit well, should have made sure during bodywork. Three attempts to get the roof window seal tracks from Stoddard failed. Gave 'em the part number, they sent A pillar twice and B pillar once. >sigh< With no time left, contact cement to the rescue... but the windows don't seal completely. No matter. It looks great, runs fantastically, sounds and feels like the beast I thought it would be. The resurrection began a looong time ago, so driving it home was really special.

Finishing up this thread... we took it to North Carolina and put on some twisty mountain miles. The Highlands Classic Motoring Festival is three days of driving and a Saturday Concours.

Our entry was awarded "Spirit of the Highlands" so we are very proud. Normally, we don't name our cars, but this one is brash and loud, so we're calling it Rude Boy.
