Geeze! that Willow car is really coming around! drooley.gif

Interesting collections! smile.gif

My list is relatively short-n-sweet, since I tend to keep my cars over the 45+/- years that I've been driving - not counting my parents' cars when a teen (all were automatics BTW). First car I bought was a German, and won out over a 67 Cortina, & I've only owned 6 in that time - all but 1 a German! blink.gif

1st car: 68 Opel Kadette in Fall 1969 - Summer 71 DD
AKA "The Red Rocket" - well not really....
.... also a 1100 cc Kap'n, but with a single Solex & not much of a screamer, but a fun first car - learned to drive the 4 speed stick on the way home from buying it in San Diego! w00t.gif
Unfortunately a victim of too many weekend high speed trips up & down I-5 between San Diego & LA while I attended USC, so it died in Spring 71 & I bought Dad's former car #2 - the only 'Muricun one that I ever owned.

2nd car: 69 Pontiac Ventura 4 Door Sedan - in Summer 1971 to Spring 76
400 cid with 2 Bbl & Automatic - "The Boat"
Well, it go me through college & a couple of years later, then sold it in early 1976 after I got my 914 (#3).

3rd car: 73 Porsche 914-2.0 in Dec. 75 - Present - 2nd Owner
AKA "The 914" until the kids came along & started calling it "The Wrecked Car" dry.gif
DD from 75-85 until whacked after a rolling resto in 80-83, then kept in my SoCal garage until recently starting in 2010 to slowly work on it's resto! About 172,000 on it when put up.

4th car: 85 BMW 325e 2 Door Coupe - my DD May 85 to Present
AKA "The Beemer" or "The Little Car" per the kids nomenclature
Nice little pocket-rocket E30 with a 5 speed that still delivers mid-20's mpg around town & low to mid-30's mpg on the freeway - if I don't get on it too much! About 179,000 on it now, with only the Transmission & A/C rebuilt - & the motor is still running strong!

5th car: 88 VW Vanagon CamperGL Westfalia - 2.1L Wasserboxer with Automatic, being my Wife's DD April 88 to Present
AKA "The Van" or "Mom's Car" or "The Big Car" per the kids
In addition to being my wife's DD, it was always the Road Trip car & Camper for family fun, logging many XC trips from CA to OK, AR, IN, PA, WVa, etc. from 88-02, when gas prices & free Southwest flights turned us towards flying back east, and we kept the camping trips more local in CA. It also served as the car that our 2 kids learned to drive - being an automatic, although both had shots at learning the stick on my BMW DD. About 209,000 on it now, but it hasn't been anywhere near as durable at the Beemer, having had the motor throw a rod in 99 & fry rings in 05 - requiring a new motor then it's top-end rebuilt respectively, a trans rebuild in 06, A/C rebuild in 07, etc. - racking up about 4x the repairs as the BMW in comparable miles.

6th car: 74 914-2.0 - acquired in Summer 2010 to Present
It's really only a body shell to use for body parts in repairing & restoring my 73 2.0, & was a racer most recently before that.

Only the 914s currently reside inside our tiny sorta 2-car garage, which is only 17.5' x 18' out-to-out - so they're packed in:

The BMW & Westy mostly live in the driveway, being in constant use & no room in the garage:
Click to view attachment Click to view attachment

I suppose we could include a #7......
Car #6.5: 88 Honda Civic Hatchback DX 1.5L FI with 5-speed - DD 88 to Present
AKA - "The Kids Car" & now "Michael's Car"
The car was in my wife's family since new, passing from one brother to another, until he passed away in 08, when she took it over, & my son & I refurbed & rolling restored it for he & his sister to use as their DD - as well as "The Practice Car" for my 914's resto! Our daughter used it for her & her Hubby's DD 4/08 - 5/11, then I did a refresh & some mechanicals repaired & drove it back to my son at Ft. Drum NY this past July during the heat wave of the century" with NO A/C (it never had A/C). He's happy now to have wheels on post! biggrin.gif

For the first time in a long time, the 914 is the lone German in the garage. The other two are a V70R & LR2. The Volvo is the first non-kraut daily driver I've had in over 15 years (5 Golf/GTIs, A3, A4 Avant).

Hi Rick,

It is slow going.. I don't think it will be ready for MUSR in October unfortunatley. It is shame since the event is so close to home this year (only a 5 hour drive).

Besides the two 914s, there's a 300E Benz, C280 Sport Benz. Non German family members are a Range Rover 4.6 HSE and a Mazda Protoge .... oh yeah, and a car trailer.

Does my '06 Dodge count? It's a Daimler. Doesn't fit in my current garage though.

Being German I stick with German cars:
Me DD: BMW X5 with 200k Mls on first engine, transmission, still running strong
Wife's DD: BMW Z3 2.8
Wife's Classic Car: 1978 450 SL
My project: 1983 911 SC Cabriolet
and the 914 LE
Promised myself once the 911 is done I will get an American Car as next project, not sure what but I like the idea of an older Mustang with a V8 and manual transmission, something between 1965 and 1970.

Between my wife and I, we have every major German automaker represented except one. My 914 and her 911 check the VW and Porsche boxes (technically, either one would do that because of the merger), and she has a Mercedes. BMW is the only one that's missing--for now.

Of course, my folks have a 328is (that my step-dad drives), so that's in the extended family... And my dad has a similar-vintage 3-series convertible.

Wife once had a Jetta (first car we bought together) but now our driveway is fully Korean, except the 914.

1974 914 2.0 gets the carport
2006 Hyundai Sonata 4cyl (wife's DD)
2007 Kia Rondo 4cyl (the most practical car you've never heard of, my DD)

The Koreans have around 45K miles apiece, 914 has ???K (nonfunctional Odometer, best guess is around 130K)

In addition to the 914 and our fleet of old 240-series Volvos, we have an '86 Audi 5000CS (turbo quattro sedan)--but he ("Murphy") lives outside the garage.

Wow, old threads never die. drunk.gif

My Porsche shares garage space with one American (Corvette) and 2 Japanese (Kawasaki Ninja 500R, project Yamaha 750 Special). From time to time I think about adding a BMW to the stable, but that would be a BMW of the two wheeled variety. biker.gif
Scott S
We have several Audis in the family as DD's: Mom has a 2009 TT, Dad has a 2010 A4 (that will going away pretty quick however). Brother had a stupid fast/heavily modified early S4 (the big bodied car) - but it was recently sold to a guy on the east coast. Only other german stuff besides the 914 is the Speedster replica. Its a 2006 Vintage Speedster with just shy of 900 total miles on it. Super fun car - running a 1911 motor with dual 40 webers.

The only other germans in the garage are relatives - but even that is debatable. The fam is from the north (way north), so depending on how the map is drawn, we are from Denmark. It has been an interesting argument between my grandparents that has gone on for my entire life! headbang.gif

I am really drawn to the BMW motorcycles as well. Too bad I will never have one due to these two reasons:
1. Wife will kill me - dead. ar15.gif
2. I dont want to look like one of these guys while riding it.....

I despise BMWs and Mercedes for some reason, have always loved VWs and although I always loved Porsches growing up and as an adult I have NEVER liked 911's. Makes no sense. My "dream cars" have always been 356's and 914's and then 944 cabriolet (still love it) and when the boxter and Cayman came out, really liked 'em... but for some reason, just never had any interest in 911's. Odd for a Porsche guy.

My current "dream car" would be a VW GTI... yeah, not exactly exotic, but its something I want bad for some reason....

Of course it was the coconut she didnt like.

She is one funny kid.
