Kraut!Click to view attachment Yankee!Click to view attachment Motivation!Click to view attachment Business End!Click to view attachment The 914 is for daily fun and the Fairlane is for scaring the crap outta me!! I know this is a Porsche forum, but I wanted to show that these cars attract people from all kinds of automotive passions.
A little bit about the Fairlane. It is a 1967 500 that was originally an anemic 289 grandma car. It now has a A460 Ford, aluminum heads, dominator carb, big NOS system, air shifted C6 trans, a 4 link sheetmetal rear end, aluminum sheet metal throughout. It is very unique and that's why I like it.
Took me years to build and many $$$$ were spent. I enjoy the heck outta it, but it has its limitations...LOUD. HOT. ANGRY. NOXIOUS. It is hardcore to the max. Funny thing is that unlike the teener, after about 40 miles in the Fairlane, I have to get out of it..I feel like a ball bearing in a beer can.
So there you go. Hope you enjoy the pictures and story.

Thats a great thing about the 914, it's small, stiff, and hardcore, but it's comfortable.

Being half German and half Swiss, have only owned German cars. Current ones are:
'71 914-6 3.0
'73 911S 2.7 RS Spec
'10 Jetta Sportwagon TDi
they will probably remain the current ones for quite some time.

I'm surprised Porsche/VW wasn't one of the available votes.
I keep it all in the family. Porsche, Audi and VW.
Right now, we have two 914s, a Vanagon and a 986.
On two wheels, I have two Honda scooters. A 1981 Passport (C70) and a 2009 Metropolitan (49cc).
I also just bought a 1969 Nissan forklift. Does that count?

Right now I have a 1999 Boxster, 1974 914 2.0 in the garage, almost ready to go, 1980 911SC Targa that needs some work, 1972 RSR clone that is my next project, and a 1975 914 2.0 that might never see the road again.
I am seriously thinking about getting rid of one or two P-cars and finding a Sunbeam Tiger to work on. Am I going to hell for jumping from German to a British-American crossbreed?
Oh, my work truck is a Honda Ridgeline, and my wife drives a Scion XB.

I have my 914 parked next to a new Mini Cooper S... Which is part German. Also, I don't own this car, but I setup and race a 325is for a local autocross team. Another German car that I don't own, but which has spent lots of time in my Garage is my sister's Audi TT 3.2 Quatro. Awesome car! Plus my brother's first car was a BMW 7 series. My family likes German cars.
Other cars I own(ed) include a Ford F150 which I inherited, and my first car which was a '97 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS. That car was pretty badass for an econobox.

I voted for 914 and Porsches only, but actually it is 914 other Porsches and other Germans.
In the past:
84 and 87 Audi Coupe GT's - These were great cars, not the Quattro but still amazing touring cars and at 2200lbs big inside/economical, 1st one probably saved my life hit by a DUI from behind while at a red light, so replaced it with another one.
86 911 miss that car
Current Porsches:
74 914 my son's car
63 356
04 Boxster
My wife's car
07 Audi A4 Avant with a 6 speed and 3.2 motor, per her request.
Great car, despite being nose heavy.
She also has a 00 Volvo S70 (although our 96 850 was a better car)
Agree with others here, there is a different "feel" to the German cars, in addition to the fact the 60's, 70's, and 80's Porsches can be kept alive for ever.
Would like to get a 912 or 80's 911 again, maybe my own 914, before the prices go any higher, but not there yet-no room at the inn.
For me, buying a car that is easy on the eye and entertaining to drive keeps me from needing another car. With the current cars, I don't have one I could get rid of to get another-strange not scheming on some car or another. Just having a 914 in the garage could do this by itself, my son's car is a riot.

Looking to buy
89 325ix
Vanagon Westfalia
it just dawned on me after typing that out that I have to many cars.
I would be all German but the wife came with the Hyundai, was going to sell it but I keep it as a backup car for the wife as she doesn’t drive stick yet. She used to call me an elitist snob for saying German cars were better and now she refuses to drive anything else unless forced to. She totally gets it now and won’t even look at the Hyundai unless I have the X5 out of commission for maintenance.
I talked my younger brother into a 2001 325xi after his Taurus was totaled and he is a convert now as well. There is nothing like a good German car. I used to be all Porsche before moving to Utah but have found BMWs to be every bit as good and fun, plus more practical in a cold weather state.

I'm noticing that 914 owners also seem to own or have owned BMW's too. I'm wondering if this is an indicator of future 914 or BMW owners. Or it could just indicate that we just have a higher automotive pain threshold.

There are some very nice cars posted here. I always like three cars in a two car garage. This is what I have - three cars inside a two car garage: 1974 914-Sixer conversion, 1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce, 1999 Silverado Pickup.
I have a 2004 Corvette stored around the corner in a neighbor's garage. Thank god for people who have summer vacation places. I use it during the winter months when there is snow and ice on the ground.
1977 Lotus Esprit is stored in California.
The 1994 Jeep Wrangler is the kingpin of my cars: it sets outside all year even when it snows; does not complain; always there ready to be used.
This next year will be gradually transferring every car to Grants Pass, OR; and, I will have garage/shop space.

All German, mostly aircooled. Four BMWs ('72 3.0CS and CSL, 700S and Cabrio), a '64 VW bus, six Porsches (356S, three early 911s, two 914-6s) plus a Mercedes 280SL. One of the 914s, a 911 and 700 Sport are unfinished projects which hopefully I'll complete in the next couple of years. We keep three or four at home and rotate depending on what we feel like driving... the only "new" car we have is a '99 Ford E350 Club Wagon. For hauling stuff.
Our most driven cars are a '68 911T Targa (restored last year after 200,000+ miles) and the VW bus, which just passed 252,000. I've had it 20 years, my favorite ride, and will probably do a full resto sometime soon. The unrestored black '67S is the most traveled... we've shipped it for vintage events, as well as loaded it with the race car instead of suffering some crappy rental. Way more entertaining on roads like Carmel Valley Hwy and the PCH.

We love our '08 Jetta, been very reliable good gas mileage... I've always loved bmw's but always hesitate at ownership costs. I have heard many of good stories though.
I also have been into the old school type 1 vw motors and trans for sandrails, found them very easy to work on and cheap. Can get lots of hp with turbo's too. Not to mention turboing a type is super cheap on a draw through setup.
