It looked like you could have lapped the entire field at that pace.

I was able to lap about half the field, it stopped raining and started to dry out and I had rain tires on.

I was looking at the gauge panel the other day while waiting to race and thought I might do a better job.

I found another steel gauge panel and sanded it down and cut a circle

Glenn,

What are you going to do with the 3.0?

How is the race season going?

What are you going to do with the 3.0?

The head studs are removed and the engine is shrink rapped until I can put the new SuperTec studs in and reassemble.

And they are beautiful! I cannot imagine one of those breaking. They look very strong!
gms
Mark K and I were working on the 3L again this weekend, got heads installed.
Since I had Alusil cylinders I just left the 9.3 to 1 pistons in and will upgrade the cams to Elgin 330s.

I had Henry at Supertec rebuild my 2.7 last winter, and am also glad to have the Supertec head studs installed as the engine previously had all Dilivar studs (supposedly the proper setup when it was last rebuilt in the 90s). They seem to really be a good answer to the head stud problems, and Henry gives a two year warrantee on his engines.

Did you use Casesavers on the block or otherwise reinforce the mounting points for the head studs?

Not necessary on an aluminum block

May I ask what kind of chlutch/flywheel combo you are going to use with 3L and 901 ? smile.gif

I would also like to ask if those Elgin 330s cams are made from new cores or are they re-grinds ??

gms
The cams are regrinds and I am using a Kennedy flywheel adapter that turns it into a cup style. The clutch and pressure plate are the stage 2 also from Kennedy.

Looking good, Glenn, that will get you down the road faster.

Are you using a 901 with that?

I am starting the race season late this year because I went to Hershey Swap Meet and missed the first race. I put on some new axles and new CVs...
car should be faster because of the yellow biggrin.gif

What Axles & CVs did you use?

T.C.
The transmission flanges are the 915 coarse spline, CVs are 911 SC, axles are 914/6, hubs are cut (bearing side) 911 SC and stub axles are 911 SC.
I am taking the minimalist approach on this because it is a race car, the lager CVs are just more mass to spin up. The 911 SC CVs are readily available and relatively cheap.

What did you paint the shroud with? Rattle Can hi-temp or PC?

I sanded and crack filled fan shroud, I applied adhesion promoter and used PPG India Red basecoat. the match is incredable!

The race yesterday did not turn out well, I had the rev limiter set too low in practice and then the exhaust bracket came loose so i didn't get that many laps in.
I fixed the bracket and went out for qualifying then a header pipe cracked wide open before I finished the first lap. I did not get a whole lot of laps in but the engine feels strong but I still need to tweak the ignition advance and carburetors.

I was already going to ask earlier, but may I ask what kind of ignition you are using ? Is it programable and can you chance the advance curve ? According the venturis, are the carbs 46s ?

Sorry to hear you had setback yesterday. Better luck next time bye1.gif

I just used the Weber 40 IDAs that i already had with 36mm venturis.
The ignition is XDi, there is and initial advance and 3000 RPM setting.

Sorry, I mean the "secundary venturis". I don´t know the right term, but I mean the "pipe" above the venturi. Number 68 in Weber Parts List How they are so tall ?? I thought only 46s have tall "secundary venturis". Or does they only look tall.... blink.gif

The last race of the year was last weekend and I had a great practice and qualifying
I had a nice start in the race and then the oil leak hit the headers only 1.5 laps than out. I did not have the GoPro running but a fellow racer posted a video, I am to the left.
That is my friend in the white mustang, his control arm broke...too scary
