UPDATED INFO:
These dates are FIRM. May 13-16 is the event. Thursday is a 'bonus day', so if you can't make it, don't feel too bad and still come for Fri/Sat/Sun.

Thursday Evening
Check-in is open and we begin gathering on the roof of the ramp. Keg tap and official kick off of Eric Shea's Birthday... err... "the WCR 2010 Teeners in Thin Air".

Friday
Morning: optional short drive, tech sessions on subjects such as brakes, transmissions, alignment, wheel polishing, and more.
Afternoon: peoples choice show and shine.

Saturday
Morning: Targa Tahoe drive gathering on the ramp.
Evening: BBQ on the roof provided by WCR 2010 Teeners in Thin Air including raffle for sponsor donations, peoples choice car show awards.

Sunday
Check out and return to civilization.

Alternative local area activities include the following:

Fishing charters for groups of 4-9.
Excursion and Interpretive History Boat Trips on the Lake (Covered Cabin with Windows if you don't want to be on deck).
Golf on a world class PGA Course within walking distance of the hotel.
Gambling. Many hotels including the host hotel have world class casinos for you to try your chances and win or lose some cash.
Restaurants. The full range from 5Star to the lowest of bacteria holes.
Independent drives around Lake Tahoe. Takes all day and requires a stop for food but the view of the lake is breathtaking.
Photo opportunities. You can pretty much just keep tapping the shutter on your camera because the Lake and surrounding area are beautiful no matter which way you turn.
Zip Line Rides. One of the local ski resorts has a ride up on the chair lift and zip line down. We think this costs about $60 but it would be a heck of a thrill ride.

Lodging
Harvey's Lake Tahoe will be ground zero.

Harvey's will have a section of their parking structure blocked off for 914's and they have security 24/7. Harvey's is the highest ranked hotel in Tahoe according to tripadvisor.com. They have a great casino and I'm sure they will be stocked up with alcohol, not that any of you fine upstanding 914 World members drink of course

Expedia is having a sale for Harvey's right now...for the same price we would have received! I don't know how long this sale will last, however if you book 2 nights or more, the price comes out to be the same we would have gotten with the group rate. Simply search on Expedia for South Lake Tahoe for the dates (May 13th-16th) and you'll see the discount for Harveys.

The rates right now are $59/Thursday, $77/Friday and $97/Saturday. This averages out to $77/night if staying Thurs-Sunday... I would suggest booking sooner than later since this is a sale.

I just found an Expedia coupon code that will save $10/night. Just enter 10WINTER when you are checking out...just worked for me, $67/night average!!

Hey Folks,

We've been working on getting the WCR 2010 in Tahoe event details finalized. The current plan is to have a solid four day event starting on the evening of Thurs May 13th and ending on Sunday May 16th. These are our preferred dates but we need to make sure they don't conflict with any Sacramento Valley PCA region track events. We're relying on them to host and insure the auto-x in Tahoe, so we have to work around their calendar. We'll know if this works with their schedule once they have their 2010 calendar completed in January and we'll update everyone as soon as we know one way or the other.

These dates won't work for everyone, but please speak up now if you know of any conflicting Porsche related events that fall on this weekend. We'll take everything into consideration.

Lake Tahoe is ~4,850 ft. in altitude. In May it will probably be pretty cold, with a good possibility of snow keeping the campgrounds closed. The average temperature for Tahoe in May is a high of 61 and a low of 32.

If it ends up being a productive snow winter, you may need to count on hotel rooms, rather than camping.

I'm wondering the same thing; anyone else concerned about the weather? I recall being in Tahoe in May some years ago, and there was snow everywhere. Perhaps it was an exceptional snow year; the skiing was great as I remember.

Not slamming, just thought I'd bring it up as well.

Not at all concerned about the weather. Bring a jacket, it gets cool at night. Yes, there is often still snow on the ground at higher elevation but almost never snow falling.

I'd like to put together a list of fun activities we can do individually or as a group while we're in Tahoe. We're aiming to have an auto-x, but we're also going to have at least one day-drive. I need to know how long of a drive you're willing to endure. I was considering putting together a drive from South Lake Tahoe around just the East Shore of the lake, up and over Mt. Rose (9k') and then down into the valley and then back up into Virginia City:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source....905884&z=9

Or we could go the more traffic laden way and go further around the lake:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source...ie=UTF8&z=9

Coming back we'd just zip down the other side of the mountain from Virginia City and head back via 50 through Carson City.

That's just one idea. If you don't care about Virginia City, then there are a lot of other cool day drives. Thoughts?

As for concerns about the weather: Living as close as I do to Tahoe and having it as my favorite destination I can tell you that there is always snow at the higher elevations. Trees tower hundreds of feet in the air and if the sun never shines there, the snow pack just melts so slowly it lingers for months. I have never seen snow up there past April and even then it is only flurries that melt within a short time.

As for concerns about the hotel. The target host hotel is kind of the red-headed stepchild of the South Lake strip. It is troubled and currently has a limitation on its gambling license but I am not concerned about this as there are three world class hotel casino operations within 100 steps of the hotel, they all have restaurants and buffet operations that are fantastic, and finally 914World guys just want to stand around in the parking lot until 2am and see who "that guy" will be this year. Past performances by Eric Shea, Jeff Hines, Jim Tabor, and Allan Miller have set the bar very high and I hope to someday be "that guy". biggrin.gif But, I am realistic enough to know that I will need these next few months to train and condition my liver for the events!

If you are considering camping, you should be an experienced camper as temperatures can drop to freezing late into the night. If a group of you camps, maybe you could get a cheap room to use for showers because no one wants to smell skank... biggrin.gif

I don't think not having an autocross will break the deal for 99% of you but we are trying to get the cooperation of Sacramento Valley Region of PCA for which I am a board member. They want to help but there is a possibility that a track organization will offer PCA a free parking lot at Infinion for an autocross that same weekend. In which case, we will probably not make their calendar because I am just one vote and pure profit is a powerful motivation.

Thanks for giving us the time to work out problems and thanks for supporting the event with your attendance!

Let's get this party started with a green flag dropping!

I probably will not be bumping it until March or so. I am a PCA region board member now and have plenty of other tasks so bumping will be minimal until then.

Ah, well, I've seen it snow there in July, at lake level. that was in 1988 or 89 I think.
