Incase anyone is still up. This is what I've been up to this weekend. Blasted and painted the exhaust manifolds.

Most of the weekend was spent lengthing the wiring harness. I need the rubber boot on the fire wall to face to the right side of the car and run up the right side, across the top of the firewall and then to the relay board. I sectioned a harness from a parts car I had. (I don't throw away anything) Every wire was soldered with induvidual shrinkwraped then I covered the new harness with some big shrink wrap. I need to pick up some brackets to hold the new harness but it's ready to install.

This is my first post on this BBS, but I recognize a bunch of names from the PP BBS.

I just wanted to say Rich, you are one BAD ASS fabricator!!

You have inspired me to get the hell out in the garage and finish up the '73 (that was put on a 2 year hold while I was in school). Wish I could make the WCC with you guys...maybe WCC 2005!

First time I've seen a 928 engine...WICKED!!

I'm still hashing over the idea of a "Northstar" transplant myself.

Hope to see the "Alien" in person someday!

i'm following your project since you've launched your website with the first pics.

It's an incredible work and I can not wait to see how it will look when it's finished !!!

I'm from germany and we have two cars here build by the same person with a 928 engine.
Unfortunately I have not much details about these cars but I know that he is using 915 trannies and
one of the two cars is provided with a 928 gts engine.
The firewall to the passenger compartment is modified on both cars as well as the rear trunk.

One question out of curiosity: Do you think that it's possible to install a 928 engine without modifying the
firewall ?

Hey, Great to see you post here! We have several Germans here now! (sorry me deutschland nit so good) I've seen photos of both the German cars. They are outragous! I attempted to contact the owner but he never responded to my emails. This conversion is not for the faint of heart. You will have to cut the passanger compartment fire wall. Post some photos of your car in the members pictures thread in the nailed section at the top of the BBS.

I'm with the others -- when you post progress, it's a serious motivator. The pics are huge. I have to see the alien at some point. It's becoming like a mecca or something. Is WCC looking like a possibility still?

Ya Ya.. I used to own a Collision store. I had 6 guys doing Collision and Custom work. I could have built this car in 3 months not 3 years! My life is different now. I have a regular job that is sucking the life out of me. But money talks and Bullshit walks.

It looks like I have alot of work left. And I do. But I'm pulling in some top talent (brother inlaw, friends) and training my son and his friends as we finish up some of the key parts of this conversion. I have the big push on now for the WCC and Barber Daves MWC. Your enthusiasum is helping to drive me forward.

If I can make the WCC you all can too. Because of the date of the event. I'm trailering the car out myself. I'm having my two sons and two of my oldest sons friends (the build crew) get out of school a week and a half early. They are flying with my wife to the Bay Thursday for the event. This thing is costing me big! But I'm really looking forward to meeting all of you!

Wow. I hope we live up to our billing out here!! (jeezus, I whine about the oil leaks from my car -- hm... and the radio doesn't work -- time to by a boxter -- heh heh -- never happen)

Dude, I hope for good fabricating luck on your completion binge -- there will be hiccups no doubt, but you seem to have cooked through the big uglies in fine style!

What are the big items left on the completion chart? (not meaning to bring up all the work right now -- just wondering where the big time hits will be on the build list)

New gaskets and seals for the motor, (ordered and on the way)
Finish the cooling system, (95% done)
Install the 19mm master cylinder, (17mm is outwaiting on new rubbers for the fill tubes ordered)
Install the new clutch tube in the tunnel,
semi-final install for mating the 928 wiring to the 914 harness, fuel line routing, cooling line routing, and gauges, build an exhaust

Complete teardown for Complete repaint inside and out, final assembly,

I have a cabinet maker building a sub-box and consule,

I have an upholstery guy doing the new back pad and Pasha seat inserts.

The car is coming out to the classic in a kind of a down and dirty run what ya brung state. But next winter I can tear it down for a detail job.

Count the days..... Your going to see some serious shit in the next two months...

For our new German friends I call this double vision. One of these cars is a 4 cam one is an "S"

It sure looks like the tranny has been moved back. Look how the driveshafts are angled forward.

Not a 928 trans axle. Way to short. Last time I wrestled one one them 928 tansaxles was when I put a new one in my car. Guess it was a fair matchup we both tip the scales at 150 lbs.

Rich I am so jealeous of that Euor Motor. Now get it in there son we are dieing here to see AND hear the all Porsche 914-8. Big flat torgue curve and gobbs of it.

Modified oil pan is finally installed. New cam, crank, and external oil pump seals installed. Discovered a few problems. the tensioner is siezed! I have to locate a used one ASAP! Engine bar is out for final welding and finishing.

GT lid is almost finished... Mesh is fit. Lid needs paint before final mesh install. My GT style lid is not for cooling. It's to display the cool motor.

I have a 95 M3 already. (Daytona Violett) Post it in the Classified section. BTW I built a 4 car garage during the time I should have been working on the car. Nice to have the garage but wished the car was done instead.

Top of the motor is on for good! I need a wire diagram and vacum hose diagram real bad! I took pictures but with everthing dirty...

Someone with an early 928 can take a picture of the hose diagram from under the hood.

Thanks jim912928, I've been out in the shop tonite finishing the welding on the custom cross bar mount. It's nice to loss yourself in your work. I really miss doing this stuff for a living. Great theropy for a high stress day. I didn't realize it was so late. I'll start bombing those guy's tomorrow.

Custom cross bar welded, ground, and ready to sand blast in the morning. Then bondo on the welds and paint.

modified the dipstick tube this weekend. here's the stock one.

I purchased a new dip stick and tube for a later 928. But of course they changed the design! So I spread out the opening so the new tub would slide inside. Then I measured the difference in the two dip sticks and added a section of the new tube. The biggest difference is in the length of the handles. I should be able to reach over the cam gear an reach it now without removing the bulkhead panel.

finished up the front cross bar, painted and installed it.

Had to extract a broken exhaust stud. I broke a hardened extractor off in the stud. the only method left was to mig a washer to it, then weld a nut to the washer.

Started to figure out the vacum lines with the help of the 928 guys over on the rennlist. The clock is ticking the WWC is coming fast!
