Nice work.. and your shop is as clean as an OR !
Dion
Finally found time to get back on the 914 project. Distracted by my sons 944. It needed new injectors and motor mounts. So that is finished, back to this P-car.
Tackled the opening for the heater tube coming from the engine bay.
Not exciting but needed to be done. Cleaned up the firewall opening a little from the seam sealer that was gooped all around and then made a paper template of the area I needed to open on the new metal.
Dion
Paper template & test fit of heat tube.
Dion
Cut complete and fitting.
Dion
Up next :Ready for tack welding of the metal to the long. Stay tuned.
TonyA
Staying tuned....looks good. Wash ya hands

METAL!!! aktion035.gif aktion035.gif

Fab(rication)ulous, Dion!

Isn't it great when all that tedious work pays off with a nice fit? Keep up the great work.
Dion
Covid be damned! So while my PACU is being converted to an ICU unfortunately, I have some time to be at home and work on 14.
Welded in the new metal that was previously test fitted.
Dion
Weld
Dion
Weld and acid etched
Dion
Formed a metal plate for the “sleeve” on this area for re-enforcement.
Dion
Plug and seam welded
Dion
Etch prime & seam sealed.
Dion
Etched prime & seam sealed engine side. No water allowed EVER! biggrin.gif
Dion
Interior portion. Still need to add seatbelt re-enforcer plate and bolt.
Also have “jack donut” to add as well. All in due time.

Love it! smilie_pokal.gif welder.gif Did you spray that with something before the last pic? Why does it look so clean? Nice work!

Thanks mate! Prolly just the glare from the halogen work lite. It’s just Eastwood’s black
etch primer.

I posted this earlier in my thread but I think it’s cool to look at
and I’m sure it’s gonna be loud. The primitive diffuser is interesting.

Dion I have one of those and can confirm it is wonderfully annoying.
Had it on my stock 6.
Obnoxious and anti-social come to mind.
I keep it for special occasions.

Your work looks great.
I hope the North East Gathering happens.
We'll finally meet maybe ?
Dion
@rgalla9146 Hey Rory, I planned on coming over with the valance you wanted to check out as well as see your car. Was waiting for weather to improve and now we have this health situation. I do plan on being at the East gathering with Mepstein. Hopefully it will happen.
Cheers

Looking good! Glad to see you are back at it. I was beginning to question your priorities. lol-2.gif popcorn[1].gif

It’s not his priorities, his helper has been galvanizing all over the country.

Come on Dave.....maybe that's what you told you girl but you were
galavanting weren't you ?
jmitro
nice work Dion!

nice work Dion!

Thanks Joseph.

Time for coffee & donuts. I had the Yeti filled with coffee while dealing with this donut. Donut is courtesy of Restoration Design.
Dion
After a few hammer hits to shape the donut to the contour of the curved kick-up, arc was then applied.

Looks great Dion...shiny glazed donut!
Dion
Latest task is the seatbelt bolt and plates.
Here’s a reminder pic of why this COTM car was torn apart.
Before i was going to install the six I thought I’d put a new carpet set in,BUT....
This is what was lurking under “nice” paint.
Dion
So got some measurements from the passenger side. Did a rough sketch of the set up
X marks the spot.
Dion
Used a metal punch to make a nice cut-out. Then did the same to the 16g plate.
Dion
16g plate with punch out and then plug welded together.
Dion
Actual seatbelt bolt/plate courtesy Restoration Design.
Welded in place.
Dion
Next tacked on the heater tube and the flexible tube bracket.
Dion
Starting to look proper again.

Nice work Dion - good to see more progress on this. She'll be ready for the gathering in Strasburg for sure! biggrin.gif

beerchug.gif You go!!!
BeatNavy
Great progress, Dion. Look forward to seeing this in person one day beer.gif

Thank you all for the kind words & encouragement fellas.
I know my skill set does not approach
the talents seen on this site, I’m just very happy it is strong and sound again. Eventually
I hope I can make the metal work look better. beerchug.gif

Dion - You're doing great. The factory welding was nothing special. It got the job done.
Superhawk996
Keep going! This type of work is painfully slow but you'll be glad you did it.

That seatbelt attachment is scary. There are so many teeners running around with that very same condition and people don't even know the risk they are taking or choose to ignore it hoping they'll never need a seat belt in an impact.

Dion
Addressed the lower left inner firewall. Again thank the gods for Restoration Design stampings. Placed it in position, did a chalk line to see where i was going to scuff to bare metal for the plug welds. It needed a little coaxing and some hammer/dolly to shape. I prolly disturbed adjacent panels a bit ripping out the rusted piece. Then drilled out the panel for the areas to be welded.
Dion
Positioning
Dion
Plug welds & seam sealer
Dion
Placed the new E-brake cover in as well. As simple a piece as this is it gave me fits
keeping it in position with magnets.
Dion
A coat of primer:
Dion
E brake area
Dion
Turned attention to finishing up my trailing arms. Pressed in the outer hubs as well as installing the Elephant Racing poly bronze bushings.
Those grease fittings are a tedious bunch headbang.gif . Only one grabbed the way the coach drew it up. I had to cheat and add a little JBWeld to seal them up. The circular area just kept allowing grease to slip on by. All good now
Dion
Assembled
Dion
Complete set ready to go. Just needs inner stub axle to be joined.
