Those look interesting.

What sort of magic will you use to keep the fiberglass from degrading?

Exhaust tubes slip through them without touching?

I'd guess at full tilt that might see 6-800 degrees, maybe more.

How do you make it live?
Maltese Falcon
@technicalninja it's not a big problem with temp, the exhaust exits the turbos at approx 1200°f and cool down somewhat heading towards the back bumper.
Coatings bring down the egt's too. Main design challenge is shoving twin 3" od compound/ mandrel formed tubes through a left and right maze of components AND a bunch of SS heatshields, all in
tight 914 rear confines !

This is a quick thumbnail I sketched up which shows a bit of goods I'm hauling around back there !
I have a crazy idea brewing up regarding better 'Packaging of the exhaust...and has been planted in my brain ever since RennSport7, viewing the 963 in the workshop with its rear bodywork removed.
Keep watching our progress here for my easy way around dealing with this heat.

These SS base plates just received for the 3DGAuto.com headlight assemblies.
Now to start laying out the outline for cutting the Sheridan "Turn signal" bucket area.
I have 4) extra pair if anyone is planning on running these headlights on their fiberglass bodywork (Sheridan, 914Rubber, GT Racing) style. Click to view attachment
BillJ
I would buy a pair from you. Seriously considering these lights for the gt for.the same reason (lightness and ease of use)

Bill, I don't think that you will need these>> if you're using the oe steel fenders which already have a good flat base (perimeter edge) at the top of fender (light bucket area).
These new style headlight housings should drop right into place and sit correctly on the OE edges, even bolt into the oe metal bracket in there.

I have fiberglass flares and thought maybe the fronts are fiber too. Pick up the car tomorrow or Wednesday from dry ice blasting and coating for the underside so will check then!

LMK Bill...if the remaining fender structure is metal, you should have a 'Proper base already smile.gif

Some 3" exhaust tips to pop through the CGT surrounds; made these with the assistance from our hydraulic press + the Dome-die tooling.
The small 1⅞" od tubes (when finish welded) will be where the 1¾" od tubes with exhaust gasses will enter the tips. Why so small? See following ...

Our Hydraulic press makes all MSDS header collectors, cones, reducers, specialty dimples and domed caps on tubing ends. The end caps on these 3" od tube sections are 1⅞" id.

The goal was to move exhaust gas from left and right side Garrett turbos, but we have decided to vent the Left + Right wastegate exhaust down to the rear of the 914 instead; and the turbo exhaust out the top of the rear trunk lid...race car (or even 918) style. Routing 1¾" header tube around the drivetrain 'Maze is so much more compact compared to dual 3" dia tubing. Cooler engine bay temps as well, the wastegates oscillate the dispersing of exhaust gas, wherein the turbo exhaust is a constant flow.
Turbo exhaust will be simple 3" dia 45° angle cut, short and compact. Pic shows basic 1¾" mandrel bends which will be prototyped into place once the wastegates are situated.

@Lucky9146 she's looking Sweet !! We threw the Sonauto car in the application...don't think they want a repeat car to show again as it was at San Pedro couple years ago blink.gif
Our '79 VERBOTN was shown at Lüft 2 'Bandito Brothers years ago...but no application put in for #342 at Universal City.
LMK if you need your 'RSVP 'Local' spot this year smile.gif

Simple fabrication today; just tack welding the dual exhaust support bracket that will come off of the trans nose-cone & guide the 2 pipes into the rear bumper. I'll finish weld (presentable!) after test fitment .

Did some innovative 1D mandrel bending in 2.75" od this week and came up with an end that gives a slight kidney bean + slash tip look: close enough for that Porsche Indy exhaust style.

Monthly trip over to Hawthorne, Calif. for some SS braided 'Pro-plus hose; #12 and #16 lines. Orig store there aporox 50 years known as Earl's Supply>> today aka ANPlumbing.com
Every Porsche hot rod I've built since 1976 has their SS braided lines + A/N fittings.. this is like having an automotive/marine plumbing supermarket right down the road from MSDS shop.

Chris,
Original store actually had A/N bits salvaged off of mothballed aircraft + super inexpensive. Where I used to buy the Parker-Hannifin variable boost valves: "Cycle the Parker Valve" !!

I think I heard them say that when they make their move to Torrance; the store will be mostly mail order and Customer pick-up only.

marty914.jpg

Since the Earl's ANplumbing store no longer builds any customer lines, I brought out my old school A/N line soft-aluminun jaw tools for my custom in-house assembly.

...on the way out of the store...the technician says "Make sure to grab some free stuff out of the cardboard box near the door"
Since they are already packing up for move to new Torrance store>they are giving stuff away !
OK...here's some mil-spec surplus:
⅛" npt alum plugs/ with safety wire holes, and
⁵/16" ss fine thread-to-coarse thread studs.
Last week I scored #6 A/N ss fittings...good for the fuel return line on the 8gtt smile.gif

Needed to make a simple pattern for neatly cutting the front turn-signal pods off of the Sheridan front end.
I'm using the '74 2L car for set up>> then I'll transfer the angle-jig to the fiberglass front end.
Def do not want to overcut, will be installing the 3dgAuto products.
I'm looking for a perfect finished installation, like some of you @FL000 Sheridan bodied 914s have here on World !

Sheridan front end is molded with left + right turn signal pods, that have a different contour from the oe dimensions>> so having a better set-up for the cutting will def help me out.

I don’t remember exactly how I marked and cut mine, but I do remember stressing over it quite a bit before the first cut biggrin.gif IIRC I went low tech and cut the outer shape in a piece of cardboard and used that overlaid on the fiberglass to help mark it.
