I'll refer you to Mark Whitesell on that. I'm back to work in California. Day two of my 7 day sentence...

I suspect this is mine. McMark posted it on Facebook on the Original Customs page. If it is, and I'd say that's likely from his description, we are getting closer to the Original Customs Cable Shifter!
Sorry, what is it? It's the 915 out of my 84 911. It ate a few gears one night on my way home from work. Mark is replacing the gears and synchro and putting a Quaffe TB diff in it.

That's good news. I'll be in the market for a 915 cable shifter.

I spoke too soon. A check of the main case reveals that I have loose bearing races. The main case has to go to WEVO for repair. So, the development of the cable shifter will have to wait a little longer...

On a side note, I picked up this today and hauled it home. It's a Rebello 3.0 L Series Datsun motor for my 240Z. 300HP, 290lbs/ft of torque. This will be Megasquirt and crank fired.
Sitting in the back of my truck still. I'll get it out and on the stand in the morning.

I got a telegraph from Grand Rapids Michigan today. That McMark guy has been at it again. The plan originally was to go with a 915 transmission in my car. Then, we discovered that my 3.2 needs a top end rebuild due to valve guide issues. So the car will be going to Original Customs this fall to do the top end and install this thing of beauty. '84 911 915 transmission, flipped and Quaiffed. Those Original Customs boys are really artists!

Did you get the Wevo bearing retainer bits as well? I hear that the 915 bearings can walk without it. Though that shiny intermediate plate might also prevent that...

Looked into it. Decided that it was beyond the scope/necessity of this transmission's life style.

I had to Dave. A month or so back, I got a text from Mark saying my bearing retainer had already gone to lunch.
all together, the Quaiffe and gears and synchro, along with the bearing retainer and intermediate plate, cost more than my 914 did when I bought it!
But I bet it will shift like a dream and that has been my one persistent complaint about these cars...
Oh, I guess we were talking about two different things. *Edit*

Apr 17 2017, 11:36 AM
Apparently we might not all be talking about the same thing. There are three upgrade/repairs offered by Wevo:
1: Main Case Repair - This is the case section pictured above, and encases the gear stack. This piece mostly resembles the intermediate plate on a 914/901. There are two roller bearing races pressed into this housing, and they can become loose over time. Wevo machines out the old bearing bore section and installs a brand new aluminum section to revitalize.
2: Differential Housing Repair - This is the section of a 915 where the differential lives. This section also has two roller bearings that oval out. Wevo also repairs this section by machining out a the bad section and installing a steel insert. This case section gets steel because the side load forces are greater.
3: Bearing Retainer - The stock 915 has two individual bearing retainers capturing the bearings in 2: Differential Housing. Wevo designed a single piece to replace both stock parts. The idea is that by tying the two together they will support each other and help guard agains future bearing slippage.
For Rob's transmission, we just did #1. The rest of it was fine. And then for the differential flip we bought the Wevo side cover which is machined to accept the stock speedo sensor. Buying their part was cheaper and better than machining the stock side cover for the speedo sensor.

Lately, we've had a bit of vendor bashing what with PMB having one of their vendors drop ship the wrong part. It's good to remember that most of our suppliers are small. Mark sent my 915 case to WEVO for the repair and said I could just call and pay them directly. I probably called 8 times over a couple weeks and ultimately, just stopped and knocked on the door. Nothing... I called Mark after the stop and knock and he gave me some perspective. They're very small. Maybe even husband and wife small.
Have some patience people..

And as if Mark finishing up the 915 conversion wasn't enough, I just got home from my week of work in California and I found a box from PMB!
This is the promo pic from Eric's website. I'm too lazy to open the box right now. Ok, I opened one of the boxes! Oh fuch! They are so damned light! He loaded them with Porterfield R4S pads too! I know what I'm doing tomorrow!

Did the rear fog light brackets ever get any traction?
Did any get made up and make their way to PMB?
Curious as I'd like to buy some soon.
Need to get the holes drilled before my car goes into paint.
ps if those are the alloy rear brakes, I'm sick....with envy. Wanted some, but was too late as they were all gone.

Apparently, using the 4 cylinder tach in in your DME 3.2 conversion is death to the ECU eventually. Thanks to, I believe Mepstein for researching this and reporting on his chat with Steve Wong on the subject. After reading that a month or so back, I've been afraid to drive the car for fear of taking out the ECU! Who would of thought it wasn't as simple as dividing by 3 and multiplying times 2?
I've had the Carrera tach in a box having had it refurbished by North Hollywood Speedometer. I did a search and found the proper PIN numbers posted by Joe O'Brien a few years back. I confirmed the info was correct with McMark and Mark added the wire colors to the PIN number connections.
So now, I have a properly functioning 6 cylinder tach!
Tach signal / black/purple / pin 2
12 volt power / red/white / pin 5
Ground / brown / pin 6
Here she is!
Yes, I know. No silver button on the speedometer. The Carrera speedometer is also in a box. It needs that shiny 915 transmission to work so, it's coming soon!

It was before you joined. I had an NOS pad still in the box. I shipped it out to Mark, and he cut a mold. The original dash was destroyed in the process, but when I got the new one, I literally can't tell the difference. It is that good. Actually, I think that it might be better as the construction technique will lend itself to less cracking than the original.

Thank you Bob, but the wheels were the product of Harvey Weidman, the guy who posted just above. They are indeed RSR finish. Harvey took 2 16X6 Fuchs to make each of the 16X8.5 rears. The fronts are 16X7. I'm amazed actually at how durable the finish is. They just stay looking great.
Another testament to Harvey's knowledge of these cars, look how these rears fit. With the original factory flares they would have been like gloves, with the reproduction flares, a little trim on the flange was necessary. They are so well fit and I didn't realize just how well until after. Harvey's working on a second set of polished wheels for the car too. Just for fancy occasions!
