Ford GT...

Ford GT...
I know it may be stupid but I like the looks of your car better than the Ford GT...I know they get a crap load of money for them but I think that they missed the mark....Especially compared to your very tastefully excuted car.

Thank you Harvey. I just like these events because they bring out such variety...

Apparently caught the eye of one of the photogs at the event!

A pretty good day...

Best Import. 195 cars. 50 were imports. Benefitting Alzheimer’s research.

A few other cars that caught my eye...

This parked tail to tail with me at today’s C&C. I felt so inadequate I opened both frunk and trunk and propped them open with my carbon fiber prop rods! Triggered a “where’s the engine?” Search! evilgrin.gif
ConeDodger
Decided to go get the car and clean her up with a 2 hour stop at Reno C&C first. Heavily Subie with a few of us others involved. Over 100 cars which is typical. The Reno Tahoe area is a great car-guy area...

I know where that picture was taken!
I miss those gatherings.

Sierra Nevada PCA concours today. Mike English was there with his Renegade LS3 914 looking sexy in green. I won S2 (they use Parade classes now) lots of fun and good to see the gang!
ConeDodger
Funny coincidence. The kids got me one of those ancestry DNA kits for my birthday. My DNA background is exactly what I had told them but this one is interesting. Look who my distant cousin is! evilgrin.gif

Turbo TypeIV in my future?

Looking good Rob. I always use a photo of your car to show customers how nice a racecar can be.... I forget how small a 914 is until you put an adult in one.....smile.gif

Looking great. Always loved this car and obviously a huge influence on my build.

Indeed it is!

Getting very close now with a diminishing to do list to prove it. laugh.gif Hoping to have the engine fitted in a couple of weeks and then to hit the road for some shakedown testing.

Stephan,
Your thread is the closest I’ve seen to a thread that covers the restoration down to the nuts and bolts. I hope to hop the pond one day and see it up close. That is if you guys are still allowing colonists to come over on a tourist visa? blink.gif

I got a preview this morning of new art for 914Rubber.Com T-shirt’s and hoodies. See if you can guess why they sent me the preview? evilgrin.gif

Love it!

Love your build, but when I see your engine bay it just screams out for you to take this car to the next level. Drop that motor, get all the glue off the firewall and shoot it with a new coat of the body color so it looks even more pristine and more like a factory GT.

The other mod I would make is to rip off all that motronic crap and replace with EFI & PMO ITB’s to give it that classic early 911 motor look, but with the latest technology. Here’s some inspiration for how sexy your engine could look. This is in my 911 hot rod with a 3.2 motor transplant, but nonetheless just how your engine could look.

Whoops! That is a pic of another car on the same drive I think. Mines NA 85.2... I’ll switch out the pic later. Damned phone and old eyes! blink.gif

That engine looks fantastic but remember, in a 914, you don't see the fan.

I am to the point that everything I do is a small but satisfying detail. My original speaker pods are on the shelf, and my current set is a poorly made set of AppBiz fiberglass. I snatched a set of these when @Mikey914 first came out with them. My only problem was the glossy finish. So today, I gave them 2 coats of SEM black flexible interior paint to knock down the gloss. Perfect!
Mikey914
Thanks Rob,
Yes they do take paint well. We do brovide in a more gloss finish but easily changed.

We had one at our shop that the owner daily drove for a year before he traded it for something else. Cool, Miami Vice vibe. Only problem was expensive things break every time you drive it so the cost per mile is pretty high.

Did cars and coffee today. Weathers been great. No snow at the lake. Ski resorts are making it. Drove the living shit out of it after. Me and some BMW’s and a McClaren 720S. Actually, used up so much gas, I saw the gas light! Yikes!

Funny, while we were standing around at C&C, Tanner’s wife (McClaren guy) called from Macy’s. She found some $180 boots and wanted permission to buy them. Yopu takes Tanners phone and tells her “your husband drives a McClaren sweetie. You don’t need to ask if you can buy boots.” They are now BFF’s. blink.gif

What ever ended up being the smoke issue that day? I remember you passing it off on whoever overfilled the oil that day. How are things now? Hopefully the new rebuild is on point.

Well, it doesn’t smoke anymore except the usual when you first start it after it sits for a week, and that’s a 911 trait.

The same thing happened when I overfilled the bumblebee racer. Major smoke. Oh, and there is no new rebuild.
ConeDodger
Finally found a picture from the day after I brought her home. Just after a clean up. She’s changed a bit!

What a journey and transformation.

If anyone wonders why those Alfa GTV6's need such great brakes...
ConeDodger
Look what I got! You are going to want one for your very own!

Sorry this took a month. We had snow storms which is unusual here except up on the mountain. We had me take a tumble on some ice in said snow storm and crack my R ishium. Then, we had some concrete repair at the warehouse that my 914 sleeps at during the winter and I had no access until yesterday.

The 914Rubber.com targa pad fits like a glove. The holes line up and it easily screwed on. It looks like a million $!
