@mb911 - I heard your heat exchangers and quiet muffler on Coondog's ( @coondog ) car at the Phoenix Club show a couple months ago. My brother was with me standing at the entrance gate when Greg pulled in. We both agreed his car sounded perfect.

I caught up with Greg a little later in the morning and discovered we had identical drive trains and exhaust. 3,2 with Motronic, 964 cams and a Steve Wong chip and of course your full exhaust system. So I am very very very much looking forward to hearing my car and driving it. beerchug.gif
mb911
Thanks.. I do think they are near perfect.. Notice how I have yet to build my heat exchangers..

You might consider swapping the needle in your speedometer for an early one so the gauges match...

Spent an hour this morning and sprayed the underside of the hood and the headlight covers.. Those will need a wetsand and buff but turned out flat for a garage. Also took it for spin around the neighborhood in 1st and Second gear. When I got back I decided I just had to get a 123 ignition for it. Just can't stand the idea of points and messing with timing old school way. I will have a brand new restored 2.4-2.7 distributor for sale shortly. Click to view attachmentClick to view attachment

Sorry long time no update on the 914-6werkshop car.

I had the top side sprayed at a friends shop so I didn't have to make a mess in the attached garage.. All thats left is the front fenders and I will finish the body work this winter and spray in spring. Carbs just got back from performance oriented as I needed the carb bushings done and an IDA conversion.. Click to view attachment Click to view attachment

So you are going to run 123 ignition driving the MSD? I am considering the exact same setup. I'd be interested to hear how that works for you.

@blabla914 that is the current set up. It runs smoother and with the carbs now at a baseline with good throttle shafts and the IDA conversion it should run really well
blabla914
Cool thanks. I’m going to pull the trigger on that.

I just found your thread on the bird board.

White MSD to black 123
Blue 123 to ground
Red 123 to ignition hot
Yellow 123 not used

Is that how you ended up doing it.

I also see several other people running the MSD with the blaster coil with the 123 ignition.

@mb911 - performance oriented - Did you only send your carb bodies to be rebushed and converted? Is that why they are still in pieces?

@Gint yes.. Did the "poor mans" deal where he cleans all the passages, rebushes, and converts them to IDA with adjustable air correction jets.. This included truing up all surfaces, and replated everything..

Looks great! The long trip was worth it when seeing it come together.

After looking at the date of my original post it looks like. 5 year anniversary for my project as of this weekend. I am in the final stretch on this car.. Thinking spring wrap up.. Exciting for sure. Have to fix some oil leaks but really close.. I am sanding the front fenders and may have them in paint over the next few weeks.

Time goes by pretty fast with these projects. I'm guessing that an average lenght restoration. The car looks excellent!

Oh boy that's a tricky one. I made my first post on the forum in March 2017 and have been working hard for 3 and a half years since. However, I started buying parts for the project and started work in 1989. Yes, that's right, I have been working on this project since the Berlin Wall came down. At that time, I completed much of the disassembly and rebuilt the short block of the engine. So how do we count that? Is it three and a half years or 31? blink.gif I'd say a generous estimate is that I spent 6 months on the project before it went down for a Rip Van Winkle slumber so maybe we just say I've been at it for 4 years now? confused24.gif

Ben, your car is looking really, really good. smilie_pokal.gif Love the color, calipers (!), trunk details (hinges, spare, etc), oil lines, etc. Wow.

One thing to look out for—if you aren't already—is a set of Euro driving lights. I don't see them often over here, but they were common on RoW cars. I'm not sure how common they are over there now, and wonder what else they were spec'd on, but they really add a lot to a GT conversion.

Other quick thought, having been where you are with the front bumper three times now: While it isn't strictly correct, I painted the bulkhead behind the bumper black the last time around—and am really glad I did. Low light always bugged me, as it picked up the red through the grilles; felt like a visual mistake on the factory's part. Very easy to do at this stage, and makes a really nice impact unless concours is a goal.

I've also got to take a look at MaxJax requirements for floor thickness and ceiling heights - that looks like a nice rig!

All good points.. Not sure if I will do driving lights.. Right now the focus is final fit and adjust all panels then home alignment, then fix a few oil leaks..

I talked to Ben a bit about the Maxjax and bought one on the black Friday sale. I only have an 8.5' ceiling so a mid rise two post should be good. The shop had real two post lifts and they made working on Porsche's very easy. I haven't checked my concrete yet but if it turns out to be too thin, I'll just cut it out and add more. I'm pretty sure they raise a car 45".

I like the idea of portability, not only for moving the posts out of the way but for adding a second set of mounts so I could move the lift to the center of the garage when I want a lot of room around the car but also have mounts on the side so I can keep two cars side by side if needed.

I've seen guys use them for their pick up trucks but I'll never have anything more than a Porsche on the lift so it's more than enough lift for me. The new ones have some nice improvements but do cost more.

Much more adjustment with the new ones.. Mine was last year black Friday.. Just before they sold out to the new company.. Actually it was 2 years ago.. I made a bracket to mount the power pack on the wall.. That helps clears space..
