Here is the recently completed 914 powered by a Jake Raby 2316 motor. I have owned it since 1992 and just got done with basically a total restore.

Nice first post! Tell us more...very nice color and flares. Hows that Raby motor?!

Thanks, the motor is strong! I really have not been able to really test it yet. Sounds great with a Chris Foley center exhaust, custom built for her. Here are a few more pics of the motor/headers. I hope to get it on the track soon to see how it pulls to the top in 3rd/4th/5th, but it is smooth and strong for sure. He was good to work with, and since I am local, I got to see it on the dyno. 202 HP at 6000.

The motor, not quite done at the time.

Nope, he said I didn't need it, and with the oil cooler I have up front, I can't even get it up to temp unless I am sitting in traffic. I am waiting to see when it gets hotter if I need to put a thermostat in it. No CHT gauge right now, can't seem to figure out why it isn't working, but based on oil temps, I am fine without it.

Thanks
Rand
Very nice quick914! I have motor envy.

I would want a good head temp gauge on that baby though. I would not feel comfortable assuming head temps are fine based on oil temp. They are not really related, and that's a motor I would want to protect and know exactly how she's feeling.

Yep, I hear ya. That is why I have not really been running it hard. I hope to figure out my CHT gauge problem this weekend. It is a VDO that matches the original gauges, the oil temp, oil pres. and hours gauges as well. I hope it is just a loose connection some where.

you dont have a thermostat on the oil circuit???

thats partially why it may not get up to temp....

mocal t-stats open fully at 180....

so the cooler is only used when it hits that....

I know, but I asked Jake and he said to wait as it is one more thing that can fail/leak. I have one ready to go. I also need to check a few things before I put it in.

The fuel pump crapped out on me this morning. Pulling out of the garage, the voltage meter went to 0. I found a bad fuse and replaced it, (updated fuse panel off of this site) then found that the wire jumping the relay on the board in the engine compartment had broken. Replaced it and still no fuel pump. I was in a hurry so I have not confirmed that I have power at the pump, but kind of strange......Any ideas? I have seen a lot of your posts, so I thought I might ask.

Thanks
quik914
Ran it hard last night through 3rd getting on the highway. It pulls STRONG through 3rd and wanted to keep running. Had a friend in the car that has not been in it for a while and he said it felt great (he was the former owner), so very happy with the motor. Fuel pump is a mystery.....

There's a reason there are almost 237,000 views of this thread. Does that answer your question?

Nice 914 BTW.

Mine in its current state . . . bodywork.

It should be painted before September. In the last 6 months I've fixed *all* of the rust with new metal, rebuilt the engine (1.8L), replaced lots of tranny seals, replaced brake lines and put in a 19mm MC, and rebuilt just about everything else that moves on the car. biggrin.gif

Its my first car (that I personally own) and I've done all of the work myself and am planning on painting it myself too. Its going to some shade of green. aktion035.gif

1973 914 1.7 in Bahia Red/black, chassis with 250,000+ miles and a question-liter that's been in the car without removal since at least 1986, when my older brother bought it. I've had it since 1990 or so.

Believe engine to be a 1911, but know one knows -- hence the "question liter" tag. Not fast, but has been essentially bulletproof for 20 years. ALWAYS starts, and always gets dusted by minivans at stop lights. 2.0 SSIs and 2.0 Abarth muffler (only ever seen one more). Five-lug conversion in 1992 with 15x6-inch Fuchs "deep sixes" and 911 "M" front suspension and brakes. 140-lb rear springs on Konis, 22-mm Weltmeister front anti-roll bar and 19-mm m/c. Only painted once, in 1991, in VW/Audi Toronado Red. Side-marker delete and Euro lenses, LE spoiler, and Saratoga top. Inside, just a Momo Prototipo, Weltmeister SSK, and heated GTS Le Mans seats (on the way).

Likely to get a six someday, a full suspension re-do (also, someday), and the NARP reflector (thanks, PO! dry.gif ) removed.

I think that's about it.
