Another back-tracking detail. I used some paint to black out the flange of the targa bar that was barely visible behind the pad (in this shot ,the pad is pulled forward a bit). And yes, this pad is not really good enough, but maybe someday...
bkrantz
Now, onto the door frames. Here is a pair of new inner door seals.
bkrantz
I trimmed the carpet around the door frame edge.
bkrantz
Trimming done.
bkrantz
New aluminum sills.
bkrantz
And new plastic rivets. BTW, I did discover that the center stud has to first be snapped off the base, and then inserted into the center hole.
bkrantz
Left sill installed.
raynekat
Too nice....you'll never drive it Bob. Hehe
930cabman
True, I would take my shoes off before entering. Great work Bob and thanks for posting
bkrantz
Thanks, guys. Maybe drive it inside?

Of course, I have to actually make it run before I worry about driving it.
bkrantz
New inner door seals.
bkrantz
Left side installed. It bulges a bit along the bottom.
bkrantz
Now for the inner sill trim pieces.
bkrantz
Installed with screws.
bkrantz
Starting on the right side.
bkrantz
And done.
bkrantz
I noticed the carpet I tried to stretch into the hand brake recess had pulled loose along one side. I came up with an injection of contact cement.
bkrantz
I tried to squirt it around inside the loose area.
bkrantz
And then clamped the inner corner in place.
bkrantz
I got some rubber sheets, here 1/8".
bkrantz
I used one piece to pad the mounting of the charcoal canister.
bkrantz
Canister installed.
bkrantz
And then the expansion tank.

Thanks. I do hope to get onto the engine again soon.

Not too much today, but I cleaned up the plastic tubing segments for the evaporative control system. These could be the last parts that I have to deal with PO red overspray and undercoating.
bkrantz
That's better. Once again, Goofoff works well to remove crud, and also leaves a bit of shine on the plastic.
bkrantz
Just for fun, I test fit the pieces. I need to get some vent hose and grommets before I can install these for real.

Left front fender well.
bkrantz
Left outer sill.
bkrantz
I took the clamps off the carpet in the hand brake lever indentation. It seems stuck on now.
bkrantz
While I am waiting for stuff, I got out the fender liner kit from 914 Rubber.
bkrantz
First trial fitting, in the front.
bkrantz
And the rear.

I need to think about how to best attach these.

Here's how I did mine.....

They worked out great and are quick & easy to remove if you need to.

Thanks, Doug. I had actually book-marked your fender installation. See the following.
bkrantz
I decided to keep going with the fender liner installation. Here are the mounting clips from 914 Rubber, now in stainless.
bkrantz
Most are designed for pop-rivets (included in the kit). I decided to use screws to attach the liners to the clips, the raynekat method. Two of the clips have riv-nuts attached, but my OCD wants them all the same, so I used a file to undo the rib-nuts. BTW, I treated myself to new files for the first time in at least 30 years--wow!
bkrantz
Now all the clips match! biggrin.gif
bkrantz
On the leading edge, the clips fit over the fender flange deep enough for the holes to line up.
bkrantz
On the trailing side, the clip base is not deep enough to reach the hole.
bkrantz
This is how far off the hole position is.
bkrantz
I tried unfolding the clip, but the stainless stock was too brittle.
bkrantz
With the liner seated evenly, the length seems too long, by about 3/4". When I forced the flu length in, the liner does not sit tightly against the inside of the fender.
bkrantz
I trimmed the liner with a jig saw.
bkrantz
Speed nuts on the clips.
bkrantz
I fitted the liner again, marked and drilled the holes, and then screwed the liner to the clips.
bkrantz
One problem: when unmolested, the liner sits snug against the outer fender.
bkrantz
But the liner is free to shift about an inch to the inside.
bkrantz
Rather than drill holes in the inner fender wall I decided to make a small block from aluminum stock and 3M adhesive tape.
bkrantz
That should be enough to keep the liner from shifting inward.
