Rear window channel with new fuzzy.
bkrantz
New rear cap, after screwing the channel top to the door.
bkrantz
Whoops! I went right past the 5000th post in my build thread. Now if only somebody can make an index.
bkrantz
More on the left door today. New inner fuzzy and outer scraper.
bkrantz
Bottom of rear window channel attached with oval head screws, as per PET. I went back to the right door to correct this, too.
bkrantz
And then a new door weatherstrip. Again, a decent press fit without adhesive.
bkrantz
Left door done for now. Final alignment will have to wait until I get my targa top back from the paint shop.

But it is nice to hear both doors close with a solid "thump". cheer.gif
bkrantz
Latest white board.

I started to track down my problem with the oil temp. The gauge seems to work (it flicks up slightly to indicate "cool"), but I have never seen it register any "heat".

I understand the sender should register about 1000 ohms when room temp. But I read a wide open circuit. (How do you like my custom probe extension?)
bkrantz
While I was pondering the oil temp sender, the Fedex driver delivered my new brake master cylinder. This one is genuine ATE.
bkrantz
Since I have been burned by bad warning swtiches, I tested the new one--and found the circuit closed. i.e. it would trigger the warning light.
bkrantz
I pulled the new switch, and reset the plunger by pulling it out. Now the circuit is open.
bkrantz
But I want to use my new dual-connector switch. I checked it again, installed it, and the circuit is open, as it should be.
bkrantz
Now to install new washers and rubber bushings in the MC.
bkrantz
Just a photo to remind me that I did not forget the washers!
bkrantz
And new grommets, lubed with brake fluid.
bkrantz
Meanwhile, in the car I detached the brake reservoir and pushed it down.
bkrantz
This lets the lines project out the bottom, with enough slack to work the lines into the MC.
bkrantz
Like this.
bkrantz
Here's the new MC installed, with all the lines connected the the emergency warning switch leads attached.
bkrantz
Hallelujah! For the first time I can turn on the ignition and the warning light is off! cheer.gif
bkrantz
I re-attached the reservoir with the retaining strap, and I am ready (kinda) to start the bleeding process again.
raynekat
Nice job on the master brake cylinder sleuthing Bob.
Puebloswatcop
Really nice work Bob. Glad you resolved the brake mc problem.
bkrantz
Thanks, guys. I guess the 914 "curse" affects even new parts.
bkrantz
Meanwhile, I drive down to Albuquerque today to pick up my new windshield. Local vendors were not interested or able to help me. Rich at 914Werke came through, with the option to collect at a wholesale glass distributor.

Here's how to transport glass when your truck has an oil leak (and your wife's Mercedes is more comfy to drive, anyway).

Glad you sorted that master cylinder warning light issue. Nice windshield! beerchug.gif

+1, every victory counts, what is your ETR?
Puebloswatcop
Hey, That windshield looks quite comfy (and safe) in the wife's Mercedes, nice of her to allow such comfort for you both.

Yes, my wife is very good to me--probably better than I deserve.

I hate to set dates, but I am hoping for a first road test in June. We'll see.
bkrantz
My one minute windshield installation! Just kidding. But I could not resist checking the fit. And for now, this is a relatively sage place.
bkrantz
In case anyone is interested, here is the manufacturer info.
bkrantz
And the stocking info.
bkrantz
Then I got onto to bleeding the brakes, for the second time. I used "dry" pressure again, up to about 30 psi.
bkrantz
I made the rounds of all the calipers 3 times, and got a pretty firm pedal.
bkrantz
And used (so far) almost 3 liters of brake fluid.
bkrantz
After the car sat for 48 hours, I checked the system for leaks--none. And the pedal feel--firm. But I decided to use the rest of the open bottle of brake fluid and bleed the system again. I got a couple of small bubbles from the rear calipers.
bkrantz
I am feeling confident, so I put the reservoir fill screen back in.
bkrantz
And got out the new bleed nipple caps.
bkrantz
Fingers crossed--the brake work is done, at least until after the initial break-in.
bkrantz
With my confidence high, I got out the front suspension under tray. Kinda lumpy, but nicely powder-coated. And new edge rubber.
bkrantz
Rubber installed.
bkrantz
I had to chase the threads in the mounting tabs on the cross member. My powder coat shop was generally very good about protecting threads, but these got coated. Not much room to spin the tap.
bkrantz
Under tray installed. Reflections from my dryer vent tubing make it look lumpier than it is.
bkrantz
Latest white board check. When all this is done, the car should be ready for a first road test.

I picked up my targa top at the paint shop today. Not quite stock (and not as glossy as it looks in the photo). I like it.
bkrantz
Close up of texture.
