Not sure, I didn't know you were planning to attend the Route 66 Run this year poke.gif

I'm not...no car sad.gif

Should have it back from paint in about 2 weeks and then the real work starts...reassembly, wiring repair, interior etc....

Its going to be a shit ton of work!
You have a Boxter, don't you? I've done the run in Toyota trucks many times - too many times, yes, but it's still a fun gig, no matter what you drive.

When driving at night got tired of having invisible heater and fresh air controls. Added a LED behind the sliders tied into the dash LEDs. The backlighting is faint and not distracting.

2 hours that I will never get back! That's how long it took took get the bleedin' fresh air box in place.

What a job! Trim the grill, slice the rubber seal to get the grill to slide in deeper. And then getting that fragile clicky/cracky box to line up the bolt holes.

I don't even know if it works headbang.gif

And I snapped the 7mm pinch bolt too.

JOEPROPER
Removed the cylinder head from my 2.0 on Sunday and drilled and heli-coiled the A.I.R. tube hole one port today. I had to open up the hole a little to fit the over sized heli-coil tap, but everything worked out well. I was a little worried that the insert wouldn't sit properly, but upon close examination, it's perfect. I made sure to use red loctite to ensure that its permanent.

Got some goodies in the mail today, I'm hoping this steering wheel cover kit is not at bad as a few reviews I've read about it. I bought it from Automotion and did not realize it was an Alan Gunn kit which has mixed reviews.

A few people recommended I use a stand alone steering column to help with the install, being too cheap to pay for one or even pay for the shipping when one was offered to me for free I drew the contraption below up. I will be able to rotate it from 0° up to 90°.

A big thank you to mark at 914 rubber. He noticed the issue I had with my door edge rubbers (originally bought from him) and sent me a replacement pair which arrived this morning.

On another good note I fitted the remaining air box bits & associated cables etc. Just have to order 3 new cable clamp bolts from Porsche and hopefully job's a goodun.

And onto the next job ......

After purchasing a running 72 in October, and then deciding to replace the tail shifter with a side shifter I had out of my 75 car after 1 drive across the county. biggrin.gif
And the myriad things that needed to be done while the motor and trans were out. (not limited to, weld up the clutch tube and some minor hell hole repair, new cv's, replace rear rubber brake lines on the front brakes with SS, SS fuel lines, relocate fuel pump etc) dry.gif
All with the guidance and expertise of Cary over at Middle Motors. KMA.gif

Set the timing on the new 123 dizzy and drove it...

had installed a oil temp gauge and during the ride the temps just kept on climbing. and it was only 50 out. turned out the cooling flaps were stuck in the cold position and wouldn't open to let air past the oil cooler. Dangerously high.

This was the second time I drove it since reinstalling the engine and it was just static timed the first time.

Fortunately discovered the problem and all seems to be fine now. will take it for a longer ride tomorrow.

Decided to take another wack at adjusting the Rennshifter. Put the car outside on level ground, chocked the front tires, raised the rear only and put on jack stands. Got out Jame’s instructions and went through it again, but this time taking care the shifter in neutral was perpendicular to the housing. Started the car, released the handbrake, and drove her through the gears with no issues. Engagement was precise and direct. Turned the car off and set the handbrake. Lowered the car and took it for a drive.

The first 5 minutes went great. The gears were right where they should be, but at minute 6, when down shifting from 4 to 3, I went into 5. Hmmmm. Tried it again with same result. S-word! Then after moving the shift lever to the left of the 2-3 plane, found second, the damn bolt wasn’t tightened enough.

Drove down to a 2 mile road through the farms which dead ends. Loosened the bolt and spent 5 minutes trying to get the alignment right and then the rod fell out of the coupler 3 Miles from home without an Allen key to remove the shifter to reinsert the shift rod. Also no mobile phone to call on, S-word. Got lucky and managed to fish it up and reinserted using a screwdriver and vice grips. Then spent the next 5 minutes readjusting, luckily I had used a paint pen originally to mark the Xand Y orientation on the rod and the coupler. Aligned the X and Y and tweaked it a bit to the left, and tightened it down. Not quite right. Move it a tweak, while the shift rod was held with the vice grips, tighten and try it. Bam! Right on for first and second. Cinched it down and off I go. All the gears are dead on. Stop the car and tighten the piss out of the bolt and enjoy the best shifting I have ever experienced in 14 years. Grinned all the way home.

Got home and got out my big socket wrench and tightened the bolt one last time, fortunately not breaking off the head. Buttoned things up and am looking forward to the next rain free day.

Dude, didn't you fill out a 'Statement of Facts' form? Would have saved you more $. Last year, I registered a car that hadn't been registered since 1980 and it only cost me $70. On the Statement of Facts form, I stated that the car had been in storage and not driven on CA roadways in all those years.

Screw CA's exorbitant tax scheme ... I'm registering my Tacoma in AZ next week. CA DMV wants $162. + a $60. smog check (which it would pass with flying colors, should I have to do it). In any event, no smog check required in AZ, and the registration will be: $4. to transfer to CA title to an AZ title and $19. to register it for a year. Also, my insurance is half the cost of the same coverage in CA. That comes up to $376. recurring savings - annually ... just on that vehicle alone aktion035.gif

Did not know that option. The lady at AAA mentioned that the PO paid over $600 in back fees for the vehicle already. I think when he got the car is sat for a few years unregistered as well.

Too late to worry about it now.

Little bit of a tidy up and small jobs done.

Fitted the interior door release levers.

fitted the welting and trim to decklid grills.

Couldn't get to porsche for blower clamp bolts due to the snow/ice.

Gave up on the ashtray fitting (couldn't be bothered with that today.

Sprayed the backplate for the decklid latch.

Finally adjusted my carbs as they were running a tad lean. No more popping and idles around 800.
