Very clean. Like the wheels. I have always liked adriatic blue on the 914.

Finally made it out to the shop today, got the tranny and exhuast pulled from the 2056, its going down south next weekend. Took the white car off the lift and moved it out of the way.

Took the new car for a driving.gif around back roads by the house, 1.8 with a single carb....what a dog. lol-2.gif ....quite slow compared to the 2056....but once you get up to speed its all good aktion035.gif
Then drove it into the shop and put it up on the lift. Needs the clutch tube welded. I'm going to drop the engine, change out the leaky tranny for a rebuilt one I have, do some clean up, install the missing piece of engine tin, replace the plastic fuel lines through the tunnel, and install a new ball joint......then it should be drivable. shades.gif

Shop rearranged, new car on lift......the others waiting

Morning started out pretty bad. Had a radiator hose fitting split on the way to ThePaintedMan's house to help him work on his car. Luckily mine was and easy fix and made it the rest of the way with no further issues. Then helped(couldn't stay the entire time) replace throw out bearing and a wheel bearing.

Didn't do diddly-squat (with the 914s).

Tore a Honda Trail-70 completely apart, unfroze a stuck piston and disassembled the rest of the motor.

Also, stuck the '67 Bug motor on a massive P-201 engine stand (overkill, I know). I used a cheeepo Harbor Freight electric impact wrench and a spritz of PB to get the flywheel bolt loose aktion035.gif

Clutch disc and flywheel look good, needs a shim job, a new rear crank seal and a good wipe down ...

  • Reconnected the front turn signals & euro parking lights
  • Continued gutting the dash; removed the glovebox (not fun)
  • Put on some new bling (targa/sail trim). $hundreds worth of tin foil more or less...

BTW thanks for the compliments above - had not noticed those posts until just now. I have a build thread going here: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=133908 It's not nearly complete as I got this car in 2002 and started modding it shortly thereafter, but I'll try to be more active updating it from now on.

The car is now on version 4, which included Tangerine Racing steel flares, bigger wheels/tires (8's and 9's), additional chassis and rollcage bracing, fresh paint, a complete rebuild on the engine, and some rework of the Webers.

I will update my build/mod notes sometime soon and post it in my build thread. Meanwhile here's another pic from last weekend. (I'm still buying and selling wheels to get the right sets I want. Shown are 16x9 Fuchs redone by Weidman and 15x8 NOS Fuchs).

Chad helped me drop the transmission on Saturday since my plan was to do the left rear wheel bearing and had to disconnect the CVs anyway. Replaced the throwout bearing along with the wheel bearing and got it all back together today. Next few days I'll be pulling out the roll cage to paint it and begin finishing all of the other safety stuff (window net, windshield retainers, polycarbonate rear glass, etc). Thanks Chad, for the help buddy!

How well did this work?

I've only pulled one pair of hubs and it was a huge PITA, involving a massive amount of MAP gas, a BFH smash.gif and a very large socket. After all I had to go through, I'm afraid I would have pulled the car right off the stands using that method confused24.gif

Actually quite well Mark. Took me less than three minutes to remove the hub. It could have been the cold weather, or the difference in machining between hubs - sometimes they're easy, sometimes a real beehotch. A slide hammer provides a great deal of precise force so very little is actually transferred to the trailing arm or car. I'd recommend that over trying to punch the hub out from the backside. Again, ideally one would take the damn thing off and use a press like Eric showed us. But this works for me smile.gif

Finally got my window net in. Doing the top was a piece of cake. Finding a way to attach the bottom so it was flexible enough to fully drop out of the way was a whole other story. Multiple trips to the hardware store and I finally came up with a solution that works. piratenanner.gif

Stopped at a local VW shop and chatted about T-1 stuff with the owner for a while. Found out he knows some of my old VW buds from back in the 70's. Also found out one of my good friends from the 'Bug-In' days died about 15 years ago dry.gif

Removed some polished EMPI wheels with 165s from my wife's car (they're in the classifieds) and replaced them with some 5.5" stock steelies. This is a temporary transition, as I loaded up another set of freshly powder-coated wheels and new 195/65 tires to take to my auto shop tomorrow (we have a SNAP-ON tire changing machine and high-speed balancing machine there) biggrin.gif

I need to replace a leaking wheel cylinder on the '67 Bug, but I can't bust the damn lug bolts loose - even with PB Blaster and an air-impact gun! mad.gif

The engine paneling is finished. As well as all other parts heating pipes u.s.w.
I am waiting now on the new engine which is currently under construction.
The motor in the picture is an old engine and served only to customize the new paneling.
