I installed a third seat seat belt so that my kids and I can all go together on shot weekend trips around town. The giggles per mile were off the charts!

Hm!
Can you use an early buckle as a center?

I couldn't find an original center seat belt so I went to Seatbelt Planet.com and ordered this new belt in black with the black wrinkle finish. Because the decal in the engine compartment states 2+1 seating I believe that I am legal in Ca. I still would rather have three point belts with a shoulder strap. Cost about $32.00.

Installed the new muffler and took her to the PIR Swap Meet on Saturday. Amazing how much quieter the OEM muffler is compared to the Monza. Feels a lot tighter too. Much smoother acceleration, more power at green lights and I don't smell like exhaust for the rest of the day.

I didn't find anything at the Swap Meet, but my wife found a bunch hot wheels she just had to have. It was nice to see this waiting for me afterwards:

Nice drive up the Colonial Parkway, then out VA-5 to the Chickahominy River, then back to Jamestown, Yorktown, and home. What a great way to spend a Monday--100 miles on a sunny day with the top down.

I figure now that I'm an official part-time employee, I'm going to have to do this more often . . . . biggrin.gif

After installing a wideband afr gauge, I've been toying around with various jet sizes, metering rods, and rod springs looking for the sweet spot for low speed cruising and power modes. What a learning experience! Before the afr, I was blissfully, yet happily content. I think too much information isn't always a good thing for anal mechanics like myself. happy11.gif

You can use a rear seat belt from an early 911 if you want the center seat but my concern is without a shoulder belt, a sudden stop will send your childs face right into the shift lever. Maybe a harness bar and a 3 or 4 point belt will alleviate that problem.

Put the Bump Steer kit in, then lowered my lift onto a Drawer on my Roll Around Tool Box & bent the shit out of it! chair.gif

Tuesday night (@ Auto Shop class), got some time on one of the lifts - readjusted the clutch cable again (shifting much better now), minor readjustment to level out the front suspension, and threw some 6.35mm spacers on the front wheels. (WOW BIG difference) laugh.gif

A friggin little Lexus SUV beat me on the top end (1 mile run). I need to get the damn jetting dialed-in on this puppy, it' still stumbling on me when I jam down on the 'go' pedal. The weather turned and wasn't hot enough to paint my banana today ... hoping tomorrow is better. Once I get it installed, I can start back on the jetting ...

QUOTE(mrbubblehead @ Dec 17 2011, 10:07 PM) *

i just wanted to start a thread to see what you guys do day to day on your cars.

i'll start,

about a month ago, i pulled my engine and trans to put in a new clutch. had the flywheel lightened and resurfaced. but what i didnt know is that i had to shim the little ball that the clutch arm rides on, after a resurfacing. so guess what i did today?

yup, pulled the trans and put an extra washer under the ball. you have to goop up both washers to get it to seal because the threaded hole goes all the way thru to the inside of the trans. i also replaced the plastic cup that the ball rides in. the throwout bearing and its little plastic blocks were fine so i buttoned every thing back up. 5 hours total. i think this has been the cheapest repair yet on my car. $2.75 for the little plastic cup.

what did you do to your 914 today?

Used 1200° semi-gloss silver BBQ paint (would have preferred a flat gray more, but couldn't find it in 1200°) ... it may match the SSI headers better with this color anyway confused24.gif

Hoping to get it installed this w/e popcorn[1].gif

Thanks, Travis. Dianne removed the old linoleum floor tiles and painted the floor, I only did the base shoe. It's temporary ... she's still looking at various options for the permanent flooring (you know how them wemem-folk are) rolleyes.gif

As for the banana, I just happened to pick up a can of this while shopping for house paint at Homie Depot. I didn't spend a lot of time looking at all the rattle cans they had. It was either this, or flat black confused24.gif

We'll see how well it holds up confused24.gif ... If I need to redo it, R&R a muffler is one of the easier things to do on these cars.

Took my 914 to my trusty mechanic in town to have the valves adjusted. Wow! What a difference after I got it back! I don't mine paying someone who does it right! Thanks Ricky!

I even made him a feeler gauge adjustment tool. The 1.7 adjustment uses the same gauge for intake and exhaust. He said it made his job easier.

4. Sanded one of the rockers so far smile.gif

WELL Today is my birthday, so i decided i would LOVe to take a nice stroll around town in the teener, pickup some birthday beers, stop by the bank, and so on. I rolled up my windows and locked the doors when i went into the store for the booze and when i came back tried unlocking the doors.... I now know that when the PO had the ignition switch swapped, the doors were not re-keyed to match, so i was locked out of my car!! FUCK, shit. I was really trying to wiggle the key while prying on the handle, and snapped the damn handle off (passenger side), great. the drivers side window was open enough for me to un-latch the top so i could reach my hand down and unlock the door. wonderful. headbang.gif headbang.gif headbang.gif
