I removed the top part but they wanted to paint it all white and if I did not like it they said the would do them in black. Most new cars I see are all one color, bumpers included

I think color matched bumpers look great! I would just request that they paint it off the car ( so you get behind the bumper covered )

Yeah, not quite understanding why they didn't take the bumper off and spray the body behind it - as well as the backside of the bumper (to keep rust at bay)
... and did anybody notice it's an early bumper?
Did they do the same thing on the front of the car?

Then changed the springs and added the adjustable spring perches, wrapped headers and added cold air intake for oil cooler.

Got new tires yesterday, Kuhmo Sense in 195/65-15, and had them mounted on some repro Fuchs 2.0L wheels that have been sitting around for years. They clear the rear fenders well enough I'd be tempted to try 205's next time...
Finished the headlight swap last night - managed to extract the two rusted-in retainer screws on the driver side. Also changed the gear oil.
The rear view mirror had fallen off a couple years ago, the head simply came off the machine screw and the thing fell while I was driving. Couldn't get vice grips on what was left. Too small to get a screw extractor into it. And the chunky metal base was seriously glued to the windshield when I had it replaced in ~2007 - didn't try to remove it as the glass is in great shape.
Instead I swapped in the replacement mirror I bought for the /6, which had no rear view mirror when I got it. Pretty sure I bought the mirror from a member/vendor here, it's some BMW or GM mirror with a couple prongs fitted to support the 914's visors. It'll do well enough to get me through the
California Melee this weekend, provided the rest of the car holds together...

Did a ~110 mile test run out past Vacaville late last night to make sure the car's working. Transmission's leaking, this must be the first time it's had the full 2.5 liters the Haynes manual says it takes in years...
Other than the rich aroma of hypoid gear oil burning off the exhaust behind the trans, and the drips, it all seems good. (And thank God for good weather and the removable roof!)
Now accepting bets on what will fall off the car during the rally. Not a question of "if," but "what" ...

Next time stop by if you're in my neck of the woods (Vacaville). I'm resealing my transaxle as well since it's been leaking when it warms up.

Still too hot to work in the shop, but took delivery of some more parts this week - for a myriad of projects.
A Tekonsha P3 electric brake controller for the Tundra (v-nose trailer) ...
A really nice billet aluminum sump plate from Precision Matters for the 912, also some head studs & nuts
Some powder-coated tins from Pete Newman (for the wife's 71 1.7L), and a pair of 1.8L heads ...
... and for the BB:
A Late turn signal switch & relay from Mark Heard, a pair of front strut upper rubber snubbers from Jeff Bowlsby ...
... and the last part ordered from Summit, a 90° AN-3 fitting. They had to ship it from their Ohio facility (the other parts came from Nevada earlier in the week). Just waiting on the dang slave cylinder now
Hoping the weatherman's forecast for next week is accurate

That door is a billet Mustang or F-150 door. The fuel door is attached to a plate that is attached to the underside of the hood with rare earth magnets. No adhesive used.
I'll have to shoot a pic from inside the trunk, will add later.

Got the LE ready for Okteenerfest. Swapped out the throttle body to eliminate a sticky throttle. Installed a new mirror, and loaded her up on a trailer to take her to the man and get new rear wheel bearings installed. Still need to tinker with the timing and see if I can get my stereo working.

While diagnosing a voltage regulator problem, I discovered a small fuel leak. A PO hadn't replaced the original fabric overbraid fuel lines when they put in the carb...plentry of dryness and cracking there.
After letting flamable things evaporate overnight, hoping to fire it up today and verify the fix.

Hadn't driven it for a couple weeks , uncovered it, put in the switches for the heated seats, now I need to wire it to the fuse panel. Doubt I will need them for a while but I did see it was cold in Banner Elk yesterday!! Then took it for a drive and did just a bit of tuning. It's set a bit rich. Almost ready to pack for the Octeenerfest. Might get there a day early just do do a bit of sight seeing, anyone else be there wednesday?

i got carried away and started working on my headlight replacement into H4s but was not successful. retainer headlight screw were so rusted that i had to use vice grip to remove them. They are off now but will need replacement screws.

Started it.
It's been sitting since 1984. I purchased it disassembled two years ago and have slowly made progress getting back together.
We figured that today would be as good a day as any to give it a try.
After gathering a group of guys to offer moral support around 6:30 or so, we realized that there was no spark, after cleaning the points we had spark but still no running...the distributor was one tooth off. We finally got it running...wait for it...at 9:14 pm!
