I started fitting up a front valance last night (the first time one's been on my car since I've owned it - 2006). It wasn't mating up at the front of the right wheel well. Found evidence of previous repairs that weren't completed, so as I was straightening out the fender metal, I smacked the shit out of my left index finger with a big hammer smash.gif hissyfit.gif

Center and final aluminum dash piece done. (Decided heater controls are no longer needed)

Just need to brush and clear-coat.

No pictures, but I replaced the speedo cable, angle drive and fixed a stripped bolt that holds the speedo drive in the transmission tail shaft on Betty's 914.

I also put in fresh gear oil, changed the oil and replaced the backup light switch pin so the backup lights work again.

Just driving.gif it to work again for the 3rd day in a row. Drove Christine the day before that.

Last autocross season I was a little hard on the front valance and rocker panells. I hit a few cones kindof hard and ripped three of the mounting holes out of the front valance bent up the right side rocker panel cover.

I spent some time fixing the rockers and dug out a spare valance I had. With a little smash.gif and paint they all look great. Mounted them back up on the car yesterday.

A nice sunny, dry winter day here today. I tighten up the front wheel bearings, check the oil & tire pressure, clean the windshield and then took him a for a nice 30 min drive. smilie_pokal.gif

Afterwards my wife helped me push the 74 project back on the lift. It will now get my attention again.

Took the car out for a short drive and got some gas before the price rises even more next week. Almost $50.00 to fill up. At least it gives back more smiles per mile!

I took mine apart and cleaned 30 some-odd years of crud out of it, and THOMAS did the extra O-ring mod to the upper sleeve (before going back to the Fatherland) ... no more leak smile.gif

Looks good Matt. I found your muffler, cat and Y pipe and some more... You can almost piece it back together... smile.gif

I cleaned up the garage a little today after the 914 breakfast. Almost ready to get the car under the knife...

Thanks!

It's a pretty painless job having a template and the correct tools. Brushing the aluminum was the hardest part(still not perfect using free scrap aluminum around work)

After installing the GT style engine grills, with the under grill structure powdercoated black, the silver body color showing under the little side grills never looked right, so I painted the area under the grills (body) semi-gloss black as well with a little rustoleum. when I replace the side grills it should all blend in pretty well except for the little remaining silver wings up next to the window - but I ain't touching those.
914itis
mounted the transmission, cleaned and rearranged the garage

Ordered more parts, installed new front brake pads and new fuel lines in the engine bay. Installed freshened passenger rocker cover. Lots of parts should be coming this week.

Put a new fuel filter on Delilah and new wiper blades on Christine. Took Delilah for a ride.

Changed the oil, glued in the sump plate - been chasing that leak for a long, long time. changed out the fuel filter, it was almost all rust bits! Bled the brakes.

I think I might have to get my fuel tank cleaned out again, did it 6 years ago and it looks worse right now than when I took the tank in for the first time! Damn ethanol.

DRPHIL914
Bought a brand new timing gun and a few other goodies when I was going a few weeks ago to do my own PPI for a 914 I was considering- it flunked and I passed on it. So after driving Bill H's car on friday after his new transmission swap was completed, and driving last week Chris's 75(sunab914) I realized my car needed to be tuned up. I was not seeing the power at @4000rpms as I felt on theirs. And the both were 2.0 with carbs. And it seemed to me that my f.I. should be giving me more. Well I am happy to report that after re-setting the timing which was off by a good margin, it is the best it has ever felt- I was really jealous guys but I believe mine now would surpass either. I was amazed at the acceleration now. I had forgotten that since I got the mps properly tuned ad the tps set correctly I had not gotten back to rechecking the timing! - my Tdc mark was no longer there! So I reverified its location, marked it and set it. Best it has run and idled for 3the years I have owned it! Now I can't wait to get the transmission done in april so I don't have that leak and the 1-2 syncro problem!
Sorry no pictures I was having too if mu happy11.gif ch fun driving and forgot to.take one!

Only installed a PerTronix module in a VJR4BR8 dizzy and repaired an engine harness, yesterday.

No car work today, drove out to Tustin Rehab to visit with Joe jsharp.gif

And that is the best 914 work ever! (visit Joe) smile.gif

mad.gif I filed a police report for theft on my front hood and rear trunk. They were taken out of the body shop where I am having my 914 painted oem silver after years spent on jack stands grinding, welding repairs and reinforcements. Disgruntled employee from body shop with a story an hour long took them. The car has been in the shop for 6+ months. Say a prayer for this to resolve nicely.

On a brighter note I built a tire rack this weekend out of UNI-STRUT in my garage for my set of 17X7 x4 each cups and my Fuch's windmills 16x6 x 2 each and 16x7 x 2each. I have some beater loaner tires on her now for body work thanks to Brad Mayuer. Brad Rocks! aktion035.gif

I went looking for rust. Found some.

I pulled my rocker covers, just to take a look.

Not bad at first glance, but a little poking and pulling revealed...

The metal at the bottom has some surface rust but I don't think it will need replacing, maybe just some clean and seal.

The engine bay sound pad and interior back pad were removed

Did the front brakes caliper rebuild, bearings and rotors on blackie using Eric's break in method. OMG, what a difference. Now I know why the white 914's brakes are enemic. They weren't broken in properly. Thx Eric. And my wife thx McMark for the long tube post. The last time I had her pump the brakes, we figured out that she was pumping the clutch pedal. lol-2.gif av-943.gif

Rosie looks like a low rider. Does she have adjustable perches in the rear?

Is she solid? By the way I like the EMPI eight spoke's on her sibling! Congrats on the new girl!

couldn't resist...sick as a dog. had to go cut out the intake naducts in the hood...1 step at a time. maybe tomorrow I will finish grinding and actually get some work done.

Continuing work on the old 'BB'. Yesterday morning, I vacuumed out the tunnel and treated it with Eastwood's Internal Frame-Coating, boxed up a set of SS heat exchangers for Mr Bontempi and dropped them off at FedEx. Installed the shift lever and attached the shift rods in the late afternoon. That's it, not a real productive day blink.gif

Richard stopped by this morning, 'fine-tuned' the shift linkage and installed the passenger side HE. Stopped there, as additional hardware was required to get the driver side installed dry.gif

So, we started putting the CSP bell-crank throttle linkage together. Ran into a snag there too headbang.gif ... need to rummage through my box of spare IDF parts tonight.

So, Richard reworked and lubed the driver side seat rails, and I repainted my faded Vitaloni Baby Tornados flat-black smile.gif

Closed up shop early, went to the hardware store and then home confused24.gif

I glued in the vinyl pieces that sit on the rails in front of & below the seat. Also on the side of the center tunnel. Waiting for the glue to dry & going back out to finish the carpet tonight. Hopefully I will get my backpad pieced back together & installed

No adjustable perches, I think it's just the angle of the photo. Don't get me wrong she will need some TLC. I won't really know how much 'till I get her up on the lift. But I ain't skeerd, yet! biggrin.gif
