I replaced the BUM (Big Ugly Mirror - what is it, Vitalloni?) with the stock chrome (early model).

Sometimes those things you think are going to be easy ("quick wins") end up being total nightmares, but this was one of those that was a lot simpler and faster than I thought. For some reason I assumed the screw holes would not match up between the mirrors (seems obvious now), and that I would have to move the holes and fill in the old. Maybe I wasn't sure if the BUM was original to teeners with same mounting. Or maybe I'm a dumbass blink.gif. Unscrew old, clean off crap, new gasket and screws, and install. Five minutes, done.

Comparison of the two. The original mirror looks huge compared to the chrome one.

And now I realize I need to tackle THIS rust bubble near the antenna in the very near future. I'm sure that will take 5 minutes too... hissyfit.gif

Glad the mirror worked out for you. Looks good. Hopefully the metal is not too bad around that bubble.

I did NOT get to drive it to car show today because my wheels did not arrive as planned. So I took my youngest with me in the TT to see some classics here are a few ...

Removed most of the front trunk undercoating . Yuck who did that? screwy.gif

Wow! It amazes what these gas tanks look like after 40+ years. Good argument for replacing the fuel lines and everything else too.

Bought the complete package from Tangerine Racing! All as part of my conversion back to D-jet. Everything's getting replaced or thoroughly cleaned.

Found a powder coat gun in the shop, tested on one piece, then taught my 7 y.o. how to do it. I think I'm hooked, little time and effort, great result. Now I need to find a big oven... stirthepot.gif

I drove the shit out of the 'BB' during the WCR and 260 miles to get home today - really driving.gif … (averaged 85 mph all the way too) happy11.gif

There must have been some sort of LEO gathering today because not long after getting on the '5' southbound, there were at least a hundred black & whites going northbound - glad none of them turned around shades.gif
Larmo63
I Left WCR early, I drove Speedy and wifey drove her Escalade. We did stop at a snobby Montecito breakfast joint (to make her happy, I prefer a Country Kitchen place.) My car ran perfectly the whole time (knock wood) and we got home about 12:15 just in time to unload & clean the car of bugs and road crap.

Oh, I did take some time to look at the raffle prizes I won. Wow, cool stuff.

I think some people just install them and don't adjust them. I had a set of KYBs on the rear of my 530i and they were fine after dialing them in confused24.gif

(Had 'Billies' up front though) happy11.gif

Over the weekend I sanded down driver door had some rust in front and an old bonds job that was cracking took cut them out and welded in new pieces. I learned a little bit mostly what not to do. smoke.gif

Attached the tow hook today. (thanks Mr. Stone! It was a good purchase).

Off to the shop tomorrow. Keeping fingers crossed on whatever went kaflooie in the engine this week. Spent a bunch of time trying various things... can't figure it out. I have all confidence that Mugs will get to the bottom of it though.

New mirrors should arrive this week. That should make Larmo happy.

removed almost the whole carpet and tried getting the smell out, lots of baking soda later, still smells...i think i'll get a new set, looks a bit too worn anyway.

Discovered the first (visible) rust, have to investigate a bit further.looks like the foam came through from the engine bay (right bottom corner on the pic),there is also a small piece of metal mesh poking out.

New bumper pad off a parts car. Pounded out some dents in my bumper with a rubber hammer and a rag. New classic style plates and tags. Picked up some frames at the FLAPS.

Old windshield had some scratches so found a new one that was perfect so I picked it up

Replaced just the side sail panel vinyl with pieces from 914Rubber. Matched roll bar perfectly.

Installed the welmeister deep sump (tuna can).
Removed & cleaned oil filter while I was down there.
Unscrew oil filter and oil cooler sandwich adapter unscrewed with it.
No big deal. Screw it back on, clean oil filter and reinstall.

Strain & Filter slightly used ~4 quarts of Brad Penn and put back in engine.
Crank engine & it starts immediately, get distracted fussing with carb return springs getting in my way. (engine putting like a tractor).
Rev it once and see that I have NO OIL Pressure.
Look down and see that I am standing in a puddle of oil.

Fast forward ~2 hours after I drop car from jackstands, clean up my mess and put car back up on stands.
Pinched the sandwich adapter plate gasket when reinstalling.

Fixed sandwich adapter plate gasket, TORQUE adapter plate to 9.5 ft-lbs, Put in 3 NEW quarts of Brad penn and try again.

THIS TIME I crank engine WITHOUT STARTING it and I can get my oil pressure up to 60 PSI with just the starter aktion035.gif

See that it is 11 PM and cant start the car.
