Drove it on GMR today. I think that it was Mothers Day there were less motorcycles up there. It was a blast.

If everyday was like this.....wouldn.t need to drive on any other road in a 914.

Nice work Larmo / Keep at it. I have some parts to toss into your truck for the June 2 drive / for Kent - and I am beginning to understand why a Man of his broad and seasoned acumen in the world of brass pipe and plumbing would choose a Suby conversion verses the hellish vortex of EAP's Decent into the Abyss - as we are currently swirling in

Update: I am presently zip-tied to a Rotary lift in a dingy dripping wet smelly basement festooned with alligator clips squeezing various body parts unbeknownst to the weak of political fortitude as I am held hostage by the Weber Guru for yet into next weak.

PMO may have something here...... confused24.gif

I am in the early stages of making a mold for a carbon fiber full cover back pad / that is, a CF piece that will cover up the hatch and tidy up the interior on our 6 cars.

I am a ways out but interest is growing in this piece. I am working on a piece that will fit in early or late cars with seat belt retractors.

My car is early 71 so the challenge is to make it a business like CF piece easy to remove for service thru the hatch but looking good and sound deadening when in place. Everyone loves Carbon Fiber / and although they don't know exactly why, they only know carbon fiber fabrication is costly, cool looking, and serviceable.

Like a lot of things we all want.

Any interest here in the same piece? Now worries if not.

i drove it to run some errands , nice to have a tight steering colum again! trying to decide whether to drive the 914 or the boxster for the DE at Robeling Road next month! any advice? i have to say after driving both cars today i think the 914 is way tighter in the corners , but it does have Sport bilistein shocks, and boxster is stock, just feels soft in comparison.

I purchased the ArmorAll AA255 Wet/Dry Vac for my 914 yesterday so I could easily vacuum it without having to lug out my household vacuum or a much larger shop vac. Works well. Nice small size, yet holds a lot. https://www.bestadvisor.com/best-car-vacuum-cleaner

Yesterday, I attempted to run a pull wire through the clutch cable tube ... got it inserted in the front, but it isn't showing up in the engine bay - the tube doesn't pass through the rear fire wall like it's supposed to dry.gif ... just one more of the little things that one or more of the POs hacked on this car. I have corrected most of the issues, but every now and then I run across something else that isn't right. Slowly but surely I'll have them all sorted out.

Take a piece of fishing line and tie a small piece of t shirt material on the end then use your shop vac to pull the line thru. You can substitute kite string but if the area is rough it will want to hang up. Once this is thru you can tie it to the an-3 line and pull it thru:beer2:

How sure are you that you aren.t getting CO in your cabin?

That is a classic symtom of CO poisoning.

I spent yesterday afternoon cutting between the 5 center holes in the front trunk. The "snout" is now open on the body, and the cutout on the front valance is also done. I used a spare engine grille mesh piece for the front rock guard protection, I think it turned out alright. I'm going to source a narrow body fiberglass piece eventually.

Little by little. Welding the louvered front floor pan and oil cooler mounts in this week, then all oil lines, fuel pump, and oil cooler will be mounted and done. Also ordered McMarks oil line holder/grommet which I hope to get welded on too.

I can then move to the rear of the car and finally get the 2.7 ready to install.

Can you post pictures of your front mount oil cooler setup. I'm doing the same on my car soon. I also am cutting the engine lid screen for the front coole. I thought I was being original. Ha ha!

I wished it was that easy, but unfortunately, the rear end of the clutch cable tube doesn't protrude through the firewall and into the engine bay. I have a #14 solid (white) conductor entering the tube from the front opening, but it has hit something and won't go any further.

Inserting an inspection camera doesn't yield an image of the (white) conductor balling up near the back of the tunnel, nor an image of the other (rear) end of the tube.

To be honest, at this point, I'm wondering if the cable hasn't ran through the tube since before I owned the car. THOMAS installed a new cable back in 2009, but whether or not the cable traveled through the tube is at question now confused24.gif

The image below is what the firewall looks like. Note the clutch tube does not pass from the tunnel through the firewall - and a piece of steel has been bolted to the firewall where the tube is supposed to be. Looking through the hole, all you can see is open expanse inside of the tunnel screwy.gif

76-914
Take that rear access cover off and look inside the tunnel for the missing tube, gap or obstruction.
euro911
Yep, did that. I had stuck the camera down through it to try finding where the tube ended - with no luck (it's hard to maneuver the camera head once inserted into a void ... it wasn't designed to perform colonoscopies) rolleyes.gif

I finally got a view through where the wiring harness goes back down into the tunnel and saw the white #14 tucked in the lower right hand corner of the tunnel, but still couldn't see where it exited from the tube.

I inserted a really small (1/4" diameter) flashlight through the hole in the firewall, made a hook to grab the #14 and again, with the help of the camera, pulled it towards the hole, then grabbed it with a pair of long forceps and pushed it towards the flashlight and through the firewall.

Next, I inserted about 8" of the #14 inside the ID of the AN-3 hose and taped it up real good, then started pulling from the front bulkhead. Something within 6" or so beyond the firewall was inhibiting the pull, as it took several attempts to finally get it passed whatever the hang-up was. Once it did, it was smooth sailing from there on smile.gif

The end result? ... success, finally aktion035.gif

Bought new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires for my car. The old ones were ten years old. Finally finished installing the MB911 1 5/8" heat exchangers on my car. Very noticeable throttle response and power over the stock six heat exchangers. Ben was awesome with support and feedback. Love the heat exchangers. Glad I did the group buy. Killer deal!!

Yep it's Martin Botts 916 kit. The shifter is a 915 Rennshift, CFR 915 adjuster, PMS firewall bearing and make shift, shift rod. For more info, check out Martin Bott's 916 kit thread in the members vendor section. I just pilfered what other people have done.

I know, I thought of yours, but I knew it wasn't a 15"

Just found it.....The total diameter of both the 15 and 16 tires deflated is 20.250 inches, either will fit on the front bulkhead.

I started it. Listened to the roar at 4k (MSD rev limit until 1st 500 are under the belt, then shut it down. Instant and excellent oil pressure, Mocal opens up at 180 +/- and the front oil cooler leaks at the bolt on the toip due to lack of sufficient squashage on the washer.

Still awaiting some form of communication on the carb jets. I will find reamers tomorrow and fix the jets myself.

Installed the correct idle jets for the Webers (65's vs. 55's) and the backfire and tail pipe issues are solved. Smooth and solid. The tach adaptor is now working too.

I'm stalled again ... the brake M/C supply line grommets are leaking, and there's less room to fiddle with them now that the clutch M/C takes up the adjacent hand space dry.gif

Not sure how, or how long this setback is going to take to correct confused24.gif

I think I'll have to uninstall the clutch M/C and move it to the side to allow me to replace the grommets and seat the hoses. Fuch mad.gif

Finally sorted out the Webers on the six after a thorough ultrasonic cleaning and reassembly with 65 verses 55 idle jets - the engine was starving with the 55's but not so now....

When they work, they work really smooth and very ferocious compared to four-sound i was used to.

I also installed the air filter plates, gaskets, filters and powder coated rain hats. I now have to figure out the clutch adjustment issues I am having / or is it the new shift rod alignment???

Going to attempt to replace the two little supply line grommets in the brake M/C today. This will be the 3rd. time I've done this task, but there's not much wiggle room in this area with the additional clutch M/C down there now, so the process should prove to be a pain in the bootyshake.gif

Went out to the garage after work today, thinking I might pull the distributor for a good cleaning. Well, not sure if it was the glass of cab wine.gif or the weather or the fact that I'm still feeling last weekend's affects, but I threw the Mighty Vac on it and the plates moved well in both retard and advance directions, so I figgered it was fine, and that I should probably spend my time doing something even more important.
