Sanding down peeled paint on rocker panels & prepping them for new paint. They presently are the only thing on the car that looks horrible because of a lousy paint job by a PO..........

Semi-gloss black, right?

Mark Whitesell called me from 914 Rubber this morning to inform me that my newly upholstered early tan door panels are finished and ready to ship smile.gif

I received the tan seat & backpad upholstery a couple weeks ago, so Ill have everything to convert from black to tan soon. He's supposed to send me some pix of the fabric to convert center gauge consoles they;re working on too. I'm thinking about installing a center console in 'HOWARD', even though it wasn't original equipment ... might as well make it tan too idea.gif

Drove the '73 to warm up and drain oil- gonna need a R&R of the engine. Has developed a big oil leak I've traced to the oil cooler. Will do a couple other things while I have it out.

I'd like to get one of those 'car condos', but it'd be a 90 mile trip from the mountains down to the PHX metropolis dry.gif - Maybe they'll build one up at the 5,000 ft. elevation in the near future? ... if not, guess I'll have to think about having a single 'car condo' unit built at my place idea.gif

Picked up my new 1911 long block from European Motor Works yesterday mueba.gif ... but it's gonna be a while before I can fully dress it out and get it in the car ... too many other irons in the fire right now ...

Build your own. They sold out FAST here in the valley. There are a lot of car guys in them-thar hills. I'm betting it would be a profitable project.

Car condo is a great idea- couldn't build a shop at my house (thanks to HOA) and it is a great social outlet as well. What's not to like about 50 some gearheads in the same area?? Even though I'm a Porsche and foreign car guy it is fun to see a lot of other interesting cars and projects, like a chopped '54 Ford wagon and 500+ cubic inch blown Ford pickup with wheelie bars!!
And TWO real '73 Carrera RS's across from one another???
We are sorta doing our social distancing...

Yesterday, I continued to put all of the intake/FI components back on the 914. As usual, I THOUGHT I had everything I needed to at least get her running. So after getting the plenum and a few new hoses back on, I put the driver's side runner on. Then I started the passenger's side, and upon opening the gasket package, found it was cracked in half. Doh!

Long story short, after spending roughly 2.5 hours driving back and forth to Auto Atlanta, I was able to get the other runner finished. So, if everything goes without any hiccups, I should get the new fuel injectors, throttle body, and airbox on today, and get her fired up.

Quick shout out to Albert at Auto Atlanta for supplying me with a new gasket so I didn't have to order one. I did not buy the cracked gasket from them, so it wasn't their issue.

Installed the new Lucas injectors, throttle body, airbox, and a few hoses. Still have some blocked off valves that I will have to sort out later, but that's a project for a different day. Good News....it's running pretty smoothly at a consistent 1100 rpm idle.
This intake/fuel injection refresh is probably remedial to most of you, but to a village idiot like me, it was real progress...especially since it cranked right up and is idling well.

Moving at a good pace, Craig. Did you install that 'new' exhaust system? poke.gif
Craigers17
Took out the seats, backpad, and center console today, and installed a new throttle cable. I got the pedal hooked up, but didn't have time to put the pedal board back or connect to the throttle. Hopefully, I'll get that done in the next day or so, and then go driving!

... @Beatnavy ..Rob...thanks for the encouragement...and you're right, every time I start working on another small project, I learn 5 other things. I also appreciate your advice/help...and the help of many others here whose knowledge and advice have been invaluable.

...and @euro911 ... Mark, thanks to you as well. The exhaust will go on in a few weeks, I've got to get her driving first... then I'll slap it on there....I'm thinking it's gonna sound just like a Scart. By the way, your place is looking great!

Painted / Jammed the rear trunk lid for the 74 yesterday, then I drove the car today, from Valley Center to San Marcos (about 25 miles), to the shop for an oil change and possible clutch cable replacement.
It was a nice, back road drive with lots of good cornering.
poorsche914
Nice day for a drive so decided to go to a local body shop to get an estimate on fixing the various nicks, rust spots, and paint blemishes on my 914 in preparation for a vinyl wrap.

Drive there was all good. Guy took notes and will email me the estimate.

I started the car and pulled out onto the road and then noticed the Alternator light was on.
As I drove the mile or so to a fellow 914ers, I notice the following:
  • Tach is not reading correctly - it shows 30-35% of actual engine speed
  • Voltmeter not working

At my friend's place I find fuse #8 (or is it #9?) is blown so I swapped it out with a good one from the Low Beams. As soon as I turned the key... BAM. Blown fuse.

So I headed back home and troubleshooting that. Found some posts with similar issues so maybe I'll get it figured out rolleyes.gif

Installed a new to me MOMO steering wheel. This is my 5th and hopefully last (vintage MOMO wheel) that I have mounted on a quick disconnect mount to make it a quick swap out for the steering wheels. This one is big at 380mm with a very large grip and is the only MOMO Cavallino steering wheel that I have seen with the Porsche Classic logo embossed into it. It was manufactured 8 - 1988.
