It is official...my car will be 1.7 powered...I went up to Sonoma last night with the twins and we picked up a new-to-me motor and got a tour of Marks shop before he takes off to Michigan.

Motor was supposedly rebuilt by Bontempi a few years back and the owner had issues with the FI system (?) and threw in the towel and bought a complete 2.0 or something like that.

Super clean motor (minus the dust from Marks shop) looks like the tin is powder coated and all complete.

I will be installing L-Jet 1.8 FI from that I am getting from Jim Kelly that graciously gave me the system for the price of shipping...a huge thank you to Jim!

Mark even gave me a steering wheel after hearing my tale of woe with my last eBay purchase of getting ripped off for $40 for a steering wheel I purchased that never arrived and how eBay won't refund my money since I screwed up and they won't honor their buyer protection plan!

Oh well, getting closer to having a running 914.

Last time I pulled into the garage, my fogs weren't lit up. Weird, I always drive with them on(Its the middle of the day) Went looking for why, everything seemed to be hooked up still, good fuse etc. Dug out a different switch from my stash, got tools to pull the wheel and dash cluster...Then realized I was probably running around with high beams on. rolleyes.gif headbang.gif Yep! Easiest fix ever. first.gif

What are you doing up in Flagstaff, Michael? - is the weather still too hot in Phoenix?

We rented a place in Flag for a couple weeks to escape the Phoenix heat. It was 74 here and 104 in Phoenix today. It will be hot in Phoenix until October. So where are you moving?

Payson. It got up to 101 one day while we were there ... didn't seem bad at all though. Phoenix was 115 or so during the same period yikes.gif

If it gets too hot for us in AZ, we'll just hightail it back to So Cal until it cools off biggrin.gif

i just wanted to start a thread to see what you guys do day to day on your cars.

i'll start,

about a month ago, i pulled my engine and trans to put in a new clutch. had the flywheel lightened and resurfaced. but what i didnt know is that i had to shim the little ball that the clutch arm rides on, after a resurfacing. so guess what i did today?

yup, pulled the trans and put an extra washer under the ball. you have to goop up both washers to get it to seal because the threaded hole goes all the way thru to the inside of the trans. i also replaced the plastic cup that the ball rides in. the throwout bearing and its little plastic blocks were fine so i buttoned every thing back up. 5 hours total. i think this has been the cheapest repair yet on my car. $2.75 for the little plastic cup.

what did you do to your 914 today?

Did Mark say when the official move day was? He must be trying to down size as much as possible before the move. I've seen all the cars and extra parts he has accumulated.

I know I did with my last two moves and I still have tons of stuff.

Installed the leistritz muffler that I bought from member here.
My neighbor a few blocks away ask me to drive slowly while running less than 25mph on a residential street with 25mph limit. Maybe he thought I'm running faster than the speed limit just because of my muffler sound. Well I hope with leistritz muffler I will not get his attention again.

I got a new load of Mark's great 914 Rubber parts and fixed the door keepers. I love that "click-clack" sound that Porsche doors make when the rollers aren't all worn out. Installed some door new door end caps, so the drivers window finally has the right part. Doors slam very solidly now.

Forrest and I bled both of our cars' brake systems thoroughly and we both have better pedal. Oh yeah, drove the shit out of it too….!!!

Picked the /6 up from the shop yesterday after having a new clutch and valve adjustment done. While the tranny was out I had them throw in the Wevo tranny mounts that I purchased from a member here several years ago. I switched the blue hard bushings for the black softer Wevo bushings. I went to the black based on what I read online. The black ones are not too stiff at all. I should have stayed with the blue bushings. Back of car feels much better. Trying to slow down the flow of oil leaks , I purchased Rennline upper valve covers and also some used 911SC aluminum lower valve covers. Hopefully the leaks are slowed down now. It was getting to the point where the oil was covering the transmission too much and attempting to detail the engine was pointless as it was covered the next drive.

Today, I drove it to Canepa's cars and coffee. What a great event. I hadn't been there in about a year and was even able to convince the Mrs. to break out here Bumblebee for the first time since New Years. Awesome cars at Canepa's today. About 50% of the cars there were Porsches. Check out the engines just sitting around......It made me even more excited for Monterey car week in August and Rennsport V in Sept. I don't know much about the 1962 ATS 2500, but it sure was pretty.

I was going to finally take my car down to the BMV and get it registered. I've had it about month and have only driven it around the block. I started it up and right before i pulled out of the garage i thought " i should probably check the fuel lines". opened the lid and sure enough, I had a pinhole leak. spent the day sourcing and replacing the fuel lines. All good, no more leaks but registration will have to wait until next week

Mine seems insignificant to that!

I moved the engine latch pull:
IPB Image

IPB Image

I mainly did that because with the rollcage, you had to open the door and reach under to pull the lid latch.

And put rear trailing arm drop limiters on:
IPB Image

These make it so that when you jack up the car, the trailing arms dont droop so far you strain the CVs and my springs dont come out of the perches.
If I did that again I'd use an old seatbelt and a couple of belt brackets.

Tested Garrold's mom's service apron which arrived while I was prepping the car for the Peachstate PCA Concours today. Great product!

I think the 914 is ready. May take the '96 993 TT also but it has taken a back seat to the 914. Haven't even really prepped it. Will likely do Touring class for the 914 and Street for the TT. Indoors at Hennessy Porsche so at least we won't have the unbearable heat to deal with.

Will pick up the new drop link bushings that I ordered while I'm there.
