Overkill as I almost always do. Putting in the over the top front sway bar. 914 sway bar reinforcement from Maddog in the fender well and inside unit from Tangerine racing.

Eric said I needed one but if one is good, my mind says 2. I welded in the 2 parts and had to weld on a new brake line bracket, as the MadDog set up requires removing the factory one. . Had to drill 3 holes and a big 1.25-inch hole for the bar. Lots of grinding for me.

Freshened up Mike's parking brake boots and cleaned and anti-seized pin and keeper.
Did a little tune up on the console heat temp lever and replaced the cable and installed new seals.

Click to view attachment There's a good shot of Mike's new SS fuel lines.

Then while Mike was discussing removing the rear trunk hinge torsion bars we saw that there was a couple slight tears in his right pivot. When removing the hinges it didn't seem like the hinges were all that bound up. Maybe it was addressed on the re-paint ?

This was the first time with the 110v Miller that it felt like I didn't have enough juice.
Then I remember that I was running it off the drop down cord, rather than directly into the wall. sad.gif Lesson learned.

Ready for the install ................ stopping for fresh fuel on the way in.

I've been doing little tweaks, just enjoying the heck out of a nice running 914 with a 2.4S motor.

Cars and coffee, errands, and going to get groceries for the little woman.

Decided to do a mastectomy on my 914. My 73 had tits but always liked the clean look of earlier 914s.

Not a hard job and I can always put them back on for originality.

Working on the bottom of my V8 car. Cleaning up bottom and spraying Wurth underbody spray. It takes a lot of cans as it does not go that far but doing this work on my rotisserie and my ventilated shop for plastic makes it much easer than on the ground. My Rotisserie has indexing every few degrees to lock the car in position also has hydraulics cylinders to lower or raise the position of the car from the ground. At $1,200. In 2008 it seemed like lot of money. I welded the huge 5-inch super heavy-duty wheels. This makes it easer to weld or get just the right position and move around.

Over the past couple of days i've sorted the electrical gremlins.

First the lights issue.

A big one tonight for me, my electrical knowledge is very limited. I refurbished the wiper linkage a while ago and tested it on the bench so i knew the motor was working. However it would not work off 1 switch but would off the second switch. The indicator switch worked on one but not the other.

Only tonight did i discover that the switches seperate. So i decided to try it, i'm heavy handed and break lots of stuff like this. I put the two good switches together and refitted them. No bloody wipers again! After a bit of swearing and calming down i went back and retried them before removing them. They worked piratenanner.gif

So now i have all but reverse lights and my wipers work!!

Next is to fit the blower motor (hopefully it works) the the fuel tank.

I'm finally getting close to getting it road legal biggrin.gif

I had to laugh at your post because this is so me! Gremlins are a bitch and they are everywhere!

I scraped off minor surface rust from underneath and plan to undercoat my '73 with POR15 this weekend. Should be "fun"! shades.gif

Have a fun time!

Excellent coating just follow the directions.

And be sure to wear eye protection and a proper respirator mask!!
Elliot Cannon
If you have left over por15, pour it in a jar and cover with wax paper and then screw the lid on and try not to tip the jar over. Otherwise you'll never get the lid off. If you already knew this, disregard this post. biggrin.gif

Which product is superior? ... POR-15, or the Wurth Stone Guard undercoating?
burton73
If you have a rusty area you need to take care of that. Por-15 they say is one way. Not sure if it will convert rust to something different.

Wurth Stone Guard is different in that it gives you a decent look and makes the metal sound deadened when you tap it. It is somewhat rubbery. It is like a sprayable Wurth seam sealer that I have put on. So I think it will stop water from getting in. The factory uses this in our cars when new. The tan stuff is all over the P cars that I have worked on. My 6 had a shitload on the bottom. It is paintable. Too different products.

It will take almost forever for our cars to prove the test because we do not drive them like they where when they where new.

Hi sir Jeffrey! no build thread sir. I just post once in awhile on what we did to it. Basically, the car came from corona shop for painting and some welding, the shop in stanton for engine rebuild, then Alan towed the car to my place and engine on his company truck. Some items we did at my place like FI replacement, fuel pump and fuel lines and those mentioned above. Going to install new rotors, calipers. Still need floor replacement that will be done soon.

I had Cory Shepard of Specialty Gauge rebuild and clean up 47 years of use from each of the 6 gauges/instruments in the car. They look brand new !!!!

Now just have to wait until my return in April to install them and get her on the road again.

I just had mine registered a few days ago. I'd put in some new front wheel bearings and as the reversing lights were not working, I had to machine up a new pin for the transmission to actuate the switch. Australia Day today, 26C here in paradise, so had to take it for a drive - legally this time! Good, fun stuff. "KYB shock absorber" is a misnomer.

Had to replace the alternator on the 3.0 with the motor in situ. 3 hours bent over removing carbs, linkage, fuel lines, shroud, and belt. Then found out had the wrong size replacement since the old one has a built in voltage regulator. Used the opportunity to clean the shroud, air horn and misc bits. Not looking forward to putting it back together again.

Installed M8 Time-Serts into the heads on my 1.8 for the exhaust studs, I had 2 broken studs per head when I got the motor and decided to replace all with brand new studs and inserts. Still need to find new inserts.

Been a while since I've had a reason to post sad.gif

Got most of the wiring behind the dash squared away and the stereo working. Switching gauge clusters turned into a huge uncooperative mess. But hey, it's more like factory with 3 dials instead of 4.

Yep, or at least my best attempt at copying their design. I had to make a few small modifications to get it to work for me. Here's some information from when I built it.

Well after getting Mike's engine plumbing all refreshed we had no spray out the fuel injectors. dry.gif 34 lbs of fuel pressure. We'll tweak that down a bit.
We'd talk about pinning out the harness before we left Saturday night.
After sleeping on it I told Mike that I thought pinning out the harness was bad money. The harness was 46 years old and we need to change it. Especially because you want to drive it everyday. By chance Matt had a new Bowlsby harness in his on site parts stash. cheer.gif So out with the old, in with the new.
After the R & R she fired right up. biggrin.gif That's where we left it and headed home.

I'm almost certain I won't do another plumbing refresh without a new harness. They're just to old and brittle.

I fitted the refurbished original radio (but haven't wired it in yet) ,i also fitted the polished surrounds for the radio and the fresh air controls.

The aux power socket is now wired up too. The horns are on and working.

Need to figure out the air switch wiring and find a decent live (or make one) for the radio next. And finally i have a new electrical gremlin. The two green flashing triangles on the gauge only work when the hazard switch is pulled. Switching the indicators on doesn't illuminate them even though the external flashers are working fine.

Are those all spare or extra parts?

I was "lucky" I think, when I bought my latest 914 I didn't have any left over parts from selling my car 8 years ago and the new one only came with a shoe box of "extras"

Besides a transmission I bought, I have no large extra parts and I plan on keeping it that way from now on.... just remembered I do have a complete 1.7 fuel injection setup that i plan on selling dirt cheap.

I forgot to add earlier that I got in trouble with the wife this past weekend, she was gone with my girls and she called me to see how I am doing and what I was working on. I told her I was doing a little bit of work on the Volvo project car and the 914, I got in trouble and was told to only work on the 914, hahahaha

hehehe good that i have a very patient and very understandable wife with my 914 hobby. Those parts is not even included what I have in the garage. Last 2016 I even have 4 914s in our driveway and never heard a complain from my wife.
