It was gorgeous up here yesterday! Put and old cv i had to replace a shattered one and went for a burn. It was kickass!
Yes it's been so nice out I'm so jealous you got to go for burn in the teener, I still need to go for a spin in a 914!
I sprayed the first coat of epoxy primer on the car.

Ok so I've been a bit slack on my subaru conversion due to a crazy work schedule.
This weekend I've finally managed to get the engine in the cradle and mount it up to the car (Thanks Ian @ Coldwater and Todd @ subarugears for some excellently fabricated parts and my friend Mark for his help).

Paul, I think it looks good but maybe a little busy from the rear. Maybe better from the other angles. You could always paint one side to match the car, leave the other black.. I think Boxster/Cayman spoilers are like that.. and some with extended spoilers have the mixed painted it as such also.

I'm just a solar geek, Bob. If I can get the sun to power something, I'll play around with it.
This will provide us with 55 gallons of hot water should we loose our natural gas supply due to an earthquake or other disturbance. I'm planning to construct a smaller system for my
914 trailer (15 ~ 30 gallons).
EDIT: The solar panel produces 5.91 Amps @ 24vDC, the pump draws 3.5 Amps. When the sun finally broke through the clouds, the pump started pumping
Tomorrow I'll Teflon tape all the fittings and plumb the solar pool heater connections. Then I'll measure the water temperature at the end of the day to see if my theory ... uh, holds water

Got home early today, took the white car for a spin
Then put it in the garage up on jackstands, time to pull the suspension and start installing the new elephant racing bushings.
Made a deal today to buy a 2003 Subaru 3.0 6cyl engine for the black car,

Well spotted. It's an 05 spec c engine with a 98 STI RA 5 speed trans.
No build thread yet but if you look at the pics it will take you to a photobucket account with some more pics (I'd link it but i'm at work with odd restrictions on internet)

Today I finally got of my ass and pulled my baby out of the garage. I gave it a good wash, cleaned all the vinyl, polished the stainless steel and aluminum. While I was at it, I drained the oil and gearbox fluid, changed the filters, and metered in new fluids. And then I took an hour to pop the valve covers and adjust the valves merely because it was a lovely spring evening and I felt like sitting outside. I drained the bowls on the carbs and ran through fresh gas.
I love that it starts on the first try after seven months.
Finally, I pumped up the tires and went for a short ride around Sauvie Island. I love listening to my aircooled engine with nicely adjusted valves. It's comforting.

Friday, Scott (our mason), tore all the bricks of the front
porsche porch pilasters and poured additional foundation under them (apparently we didn't have very good building codes 100 years ago)
Click to view attachmentThese things hold up the front porch roof's posts and beams, so repairing them was the first step in this particular remodel project. We had the insides filled with concrete a couple of months ago (yes, they were originally hollow and the OEM mortar was turning into powder)

Wish I had a rotisserie, and a heated shop I started epoxy painted when the weather was nice and warm now I might have to wait a month or two for it to get that nice and warm again!
But I have lots of other stuff to do like chop, weld front trunk channels, upper wheel house, engine tray, batt tray, and redo fuel and gas lines on engine.

Just got car back in time to drive this last weekend. First nice Spring weekend in Ohio. I had an oil cooler installed by Auto Assets in Powell, Ohio, just north of Columbus. Great shop owned by Chip Vance. Chip races a 914-6. The body shop next door, Yoke's Body Shop, is owned by Paul Yoakum. They cut the hole in the bumper and modified the lower valance to match up with the flares.
Also tuned it up, new valve covers, etc. Anyway, it runs great. Thermostat kicks in at 180. Never saw anything above that, but it's still not hot out. I am happy to have my baby back!!

Well I just painted my rear coil before installing it on my new shock. Other one is done. The Cruel Mistress is finally on the road to reassembly. After blowing a tranny bearing 4 yrs ago. 5 states away from my present abode. Just a little hellhole repair
and a couple minor upgrades. Really nothing for you guys with money and a nice shop. Or enough money to take it to a shop. Lucky for me. My son is a Porsche tech. And manages an independent Porsche shop. Now if I could only get him to work on the car for me
It's enough that I got a really good deal on some restoration design stuff though. Maybe this thing will be running by the end of the summer. If I leave the front end alone.

Looking to adding another 044 Bosch fuel pump and am looking for a large amp switched power source. I am thinking of using the relay that would normally run the heater fan or the relay for the rear window defogger. Both are switched circuits with relays. So i played around with the voltage meter to find the terminals off the relay board.

On Kent's (76-914) recommendation, I called BOBCO Metals in downtown LA. They quoted a great price on some 1/8", 2"x2" aluminum angle and 2" flat plate. This stuff will support the new ceiling in my 'PORSCHE' trailer. We got all the side angle supports installed and the ceiling installed the 'V' nose section today.
