Nice shot! That brings back memories, as my grandparents used to live in Fredericksburg. So as a kid in the '70s, we used to go back and visit, and dad would take us to the LBJ municipal pool.
Good times.

This morning I put on the circut board cover on just to take a pic. I still need to do the switches in but they will be just as different as the board. They will just be ground points for the relays.

Sooo, nobody sounded me about the front lid.

Still needs switchs and headlights but I am predicting under 1675 ready to roll street legal.

I went over to Triad and got my new exhaust installed! I've been waiting a long long time for this. Now my car finally sounds fast.... if it were only as fast as it sounded. Perception is everything right?
BTW Dave and Erik are super nice guys with a really great product. If you live around here they will throw your car on their lift and put the exhaust on for you. They are almost at 300 units shipped and their product is very very nice.

Got the engine parts back from the machine shop for Betty's engine yesterday. Already had mine on the lift and the motor out fixing the oil leak. Stabbed the motor back in last night, and fired it up about 30 minutes ago. I have a small fuel leak, and I need to find a copper crush washer for the banjo fitting on the side of the injection pump.
I also need a tach adapter for an Electromotive HPV-1 ignition system.

brp, I couldn't agree more. Priorities however dictate kid's college comes before Dad's lift. Even working on my son's would be much easier with a lift.
Was expecting to get his engine in today, but got sidetracked by that evil demon - rust. Whoever did the battery tray repair did a nice job up to the point where they didn't primer/paint it. Cleaned up lots of surface rust and at least got it primered.
Click to view attachmentThere's also some starting in the hell hole on the divers side. That'll get some POR 15 once I run to town for a paint brush.

We took our 914 out for a 150 mile round-trip to the "Classics on the Green" Wine Festival & Classic Car Show at New Kent Winery. Our car stayed in the parking lot (due to poor planning on my part), but we talked to the owner of the only 914 in the show (Steve Summerville) . He has a very nice signal orange '72.
Here's a pic of Steve and his car:
Click to view attachment I also mentioned that he should consider visiting 914world.
The show honored 50 years of MGB, but a ton of other pretty--and interesting cars from an Aston Martin DB4 to a 1937 Volvo (both were winners in the show).
Pretty much a perfect day!

With the mechanicals more or less sorted, time for some interior love.
I had to do a little sheet metal cutting to fit, but these 2-way Pioneer speakers ($39 at WalMart) are a big improvement. Orig. speakers were smaller, in adapter rings, and had no grilles...a big eyesore.
Also installed something I hope I never need...fire extinguisher!
Next up...a leather wheel wrap from AGLA. My car right now has the fake-stitching rubber-rim wheel that looks very low-rent.

OK, twist my arm! I love Ravenna Green, but mine's actually Saturn Yellow. It never photographs the same way twice.
I really like the way the exhaust turned out...single tip in the stock location, and a cheater "dump" pipe that's hidden behind the valance. The "2.0" badge stays!

Finished cleaning the CV's and putting them together dry. Just need the new boots and grease now.
So, the axle is off and you are by yourself and the cv bolts are tight. How to get them broke loose? No vise to use! My solution was putting the nut on the axle and putting a nail thru the cotter pin hole and using a large crecent wrench on the nut. That worked really well.

They're 225/50-15s in back, 205/50-15s up front. Much fender pulling/rolling was needed to clear (plus 15x7 wheels with the right offset), but even so, the fender retains a stock look. I really didn't want to go the boxy flare route.

They were too nice for my car anyway
Yesterday, as I was getting ready to go to AutoShop class, the school called to let us know the instructor wasn't in ... so I went to
my shop.
Click to view attachmentWith the 'BB' up on that nifty new lift, I tackled some oil leaks. Torqued the strainer bolt and installed a new gasket on the passenger side rocker cover. The strainer stopped leaking (which was massive), but I still have a little more than a dribble from the rocker. Need to find some better covers.
Click to view attachmentAlso, adjusted the front suspension (sits more level from side to side now). Got to drive it around the block a few times, but the red idiot light in the gas gauge came on and spoiled my fun
... so I rummaged through some boxes of spare parts to see what else I can sell off.
