Got out this morning and finished up the carb refresh on Elwood. 12.7 to 1 mixture ratio at idle. Found the float level was too high on one bowl, it was percolating into the bore when sitting still, filling it with gas. Once adjusted, I went to start it and it just went click.

I think the starter took a stromberg.gif I will pull it off tomorrow to check.

I guess. It doesn't actually match the speed. Plus I'm in Canada.

I bought an Automotion kit for about $70 including shipping. It was incredibly difficult! The leather in the kit needed to be trimmed and the pre-punched holes didn't line up. It took her about 15 hours but she basically did everything twice to make sure she was satisfied with the result.

Bought a Quad gauge 10 years ago which uses LEDs rather than incandescent bulbs. The gauges work fine but the engine had to be spun up to 4000 RPM before the alternator light went off and the Volts would rise from 12 to 14.5. After much research, a couple of negative comments on this board, and the help of electrical engineering graduates from Cal Poly and Cal Tech, the correct resistance was determined to excite the alternator to create 14.5 V at startup. It took a 10 Ohm 5 Volt resistor and a Porsche specific diode put in parallel with the LED to make the magic happen. It was an interesting exercise determining the correct resistance needed.

If anyone else has one of these quads with this issue, PM me and I will give you the specifics.Click to view attachment

I scanned every receipt for every expensenever spent on the car from the date of acquisition then dropped the cost data into an excel spreadsheet............ taking into account the sale of the original 1.7 to the guy who built the 2.3-4 / then the cash from the sale of the 2.3-4 / to buy the 3.0-6 and trinkets to get that together......... On balance, this car is one of the least expensive six cylinder Porsche automobiles I have had the pleasure of driving over the years. It is arguably worth, in today's market, well over four times what I have in it and it is reliable and fun to drive.

No heater, power windows, power brakes and/or power steering, bla bla......... dont need that in this ride / just an open road. driving-girl.gif

No pictures / new laptop and no imports (photos) just yet.......... beerchug.gif

No, no, no... you don't want to do that...
The fella I bought my car from didn't want to add all the receipts up, and after I went through them I could see why; it looked as if he went through the Patrick Motorsports catalog and just checked off all the boxes...

Ravi, it's probably local to that jack point area, only. Open it up some more and give the long "the screwdriver test". If the long material feels firm then order one from RD. We can weld a new one in place on a Saturday. beerchug.gif

Had a completely stuck driver seat which refused to slide. Had to use a scissor jack to get the seat to budge and get it off the rails. Have a GTS Classics seat whose bolt holes were slightly off. Had to elongate the holes on the mating piece and reversed the direction of the seat slider with the safety catch. It would still get stuck but not as badly until I loosened the mounting bolts just a bit. Then the seat would slide effortlessly until I pulled the seat out to tighten the seat bottom bolts. Putting the seat back in, it bound again. Removed the seat and loosened the bolts just a bit and again it slid effortlessly. So screw it, and I left it that way. In an accident I doubt a tight bolt versus an almost tight bolt will make much difference.

Big day today. Getting the last things done before installing rebuilt 2.7. Still waiting on machine shop on that project Figured I’d quickly install new clutch cable. Wrong. Clevis pin at pedal assembly end was frozen. Finally some PB Blaster and a punch got out the pin I destroyed with pliers and cuss words. Waiting for new one from Pelican.

Then my wife and I ran Chris Foley’s steel gas lines from rear to front. Very nice product with good instructions. Can’t believe those plastic lines were still in there.

Thermostat at rear fire wall for front oil cooler is in the way a little. May have to make hose connections up front inside the tunnel and instead of grommets at the wall use larger fuel hose for hose protection.

Ran out of time so neither project got done.
