Spent the day in the shop, got the valves adjusted, new spark plugs, installed the valve covers. Installed the fan, hooked up the alternater, resealed the breather plate and the timing cover, new sump plate and gasket. Got the intake installed, with new injector sleeves. Cleaned up the wire harness a little.

Hoping to drive it to WCR.....we'll see.

Thanks!! Too bad it's not a 3.6, but I can't afford one yet. At least I can say the drivetrain is all stock right down to the flywheel and clutch.

pfffffft, it's a 6 enough said as that will be plenty for now. But, if you go for a 3.6 I'll put myself in line for your 3.2 chowtime.gif

In the spirit of this thread, I completed a little project on my 914 on Wednesday!

It started to get VERY stiff throttle actuation from the pedal. I checked the throttle body and it opened smoothly, so I thought it may be the cable, but upon closer inspection, the throttle pedal bell crank (the lever that the pedal rod and the throttle cable attaches to) had broken its weld at the pivot shaft and was pushed out about 30deg.

This caused a rub on the pedal board and a poor force moment issue as it was being pushed off to the right instead of a smooth single direction movement.

Luckily, I had an extra and once installed, the car drives SO much better!

I love the little (but big win) projects!

Now, back to the banter...

Spent most of the day in the shop again, went and met Jim (jcd914) at his work and pick up a male 14 pin connector, Thanks Jim, to wire into my -6 engine harness. Unwrapped the wire harness got it partialy modified and rewrapped.
Built a cradle for the engine to sit on, and got it lifted onto my rolling table.
Just need to bolt up the tranny and it will be ready for test fitting.

Almost Ready!

Well not really did something for the 914 but It was move out of the garage for a few days out in the sun because of my wife C-240. I replaced control arm bushings of this C-240 and finished it yesterday. And this morning my rear bumper cover and foam absorber arrived and was able to install them on our family van. Two weeks ago a young descent 18 year old man rear ended my family while on their way to a christian concert with Paul Baloche in Anaheim, CA. At least my wife and my kids where not hurt.

This young man requested not to claim from his insurance and he just did paid me cash based on the collision shop estimate. What I did is, I ordered the parts online and installed them to save some money from the paid cash and I'm planning to give back a hundred to this young man.

My engine is out, taking it to Chris Foley to get freshened up. The car itself was delivered to my favourite body man who will do a nice job on replacing the battery tray which has a hole in it. I got the new tray from restoration design, great quality with their parts. I got to know Peter from Restoration Design, as he was my bench partner at Dr. Evils tranny clinic in Ontario, Canada last year. Looking forward to driving my car again, it has been a long winter, I still have snow in the front and back yard!

The young man paid me $1,183 (based on collision shops estimate) and I only spend around $600 and it only took me 30 minutes to remove the damaged bumper cover and for installation less than an hour (it took me 30 minutes to removed the packaging of this bumper because it really has a very high quality packaging).

So $100 is just a consideration for this young man who is only 18 years old but has 2 part time job and full time college student. For that young man, he was able to saved money for his future.

Thanks again Mark (Euro911) and 76-914!

God Bless!

It's been a good and challenging day.....completed my Tangerine header exhaust install and also finished the new shift rod install, also from Tangerine. It went on easier than I expected and the exhaust is so much nicer sounding than my old Bursch.
I also completed my 5 gauge console setup that I've been working on for a few weeks. I just need to recheck my oil pressure wiring, it's not working now.....
What a great day! As always, very happy with Tangerine and it's definitely worth the extra $$. I hope to take it out for an Easter drive!

I took on a 930 turbo today... happy11.gif

I took the car out for a nice drive down the coast and a pretty black 930 wanted to play. Clearly I have better power to weight than him. Maybe a little more hp too.

It was fun but he could not keep up until I got yelled at by my wife to slow down... biggrin.gif

did a number of things this last week.

pulled the rt carb to add the adaptor for the combo oil pressure sender (light and PSI) and CHT sensor. then learned how important it is to make sure you have NO air leaks. headbang.gif Thought I had a bunch of birds in there. lol-2.gif
Click to view attachment oil pressure

pulled and cleaned the plugs as they don't seem to be available locally. ordered 2 sets.

adjusted the timing the best I could figure, then took it for a drive and tweaked it until it didn't ping when getting it in 4th.

installed the center console, made a 5 gauge holder, (actually made 2 but didn't like the layout of the first one). also had to make the bottom as I didn't have one. Will have to remake as the "cup holder" I tried to put in just isn't right. Will eventually cover the pieces , this is just a test right now.
Click to view attachment I had taken a picture going down the road but it was just a little fuzzy. driving.gif lol-2.gif

I then drove it 650 miles from Baltimore, Md to Clarksville, Ga. driving.gif Found out that when going up the mountain I might have to drop all the way down to 3rd. But it did good.

Oil pressure ranged from 40 to 60 psi, oil temp 190 to 230 and CHT averaged about 340 and went up when climbing the "hills". I have the CHT set to start flashing at 370 and never allowed it to go past 390. Even then not for very long, that was when I figured out I might have to go all the way down to 3rd.

went for a nice long ride on this beautiful day. Stoped at a freinds house and filled the car with junk from him cleaning out his garage. Then decided to try and make a door top corner piece out of steel since im missing one. Go it 90% done and then the wire wheel on my bench grinder decided to make it disapear. Got the engine and tranny in the car today, tight fit. Loaded the car on the trailer....going to McMarks in the morning for him to finish. Starting a big job Thursday.....no more time to play...time to get R done.

Just fuel lines, oil lines, some electrical and a few minor items, shouldn't take Mark long, might be driving it by next week. driving.gif piratenanner.gif

Got the car running last week for the first time since dropping the engine & transmission for rebuilding. The transmission, as a result of Dr Evil's clinic in Sonoma, is like new. The engine, a 2056 rebuild, is thru it's cam break-in.

Yesterday I started the conversion from dual Weber 40IDF carbs to Megasquirt fuel injection and ignition. Fabricated mounting plates for the LS2 coils and completed the engine bay portion of the ignition wiring harness.

Paid for a windshield from Pro Source Glass International. Paid for it via Pay Pal $195 at 2:10 PM. At 4pm, Pacific time, a lady from the company (East coast) contacted me and said I could pick it up on Thursday, 48hrs later, because the one that was already in the San Francisco warehouse was scratched. I was in the neighborhood and checked on the status of the glass and it was ready basically collected it 26 hours after payment. I'll post a sequence of installation pics soon. The model number for the glass is FW235. I got the one without the dark band.

Well, since it sounded rough, I checked all my valve lash, #1 was a little tight. fixed my oil drip, got to remember to tighten up the oil filter! updated my megasquirt to tuner studio, got the idle better after more adjustment of the twin throttle bodies...I just had to go up the street!

WOW!....this thing pulls like nothing I have ever ridden in. Really feels like a high power kart....just lights up the tires when I hit the gas. Almost instant redline...I will have to get it on a Dyno soon...less than 2k pounds, with I hope somewhere around 150+ of tourques.....can you see my grin? evilgrin.gif

Finished fitting the GT front oil cooler duct and bottom piece in the front trunk. That's ready for paint.

Removed the never used Boxster monobloc brake setup and 24mm Zimmerman rotors from the front suspension.

I am going to go to 911S aluminum calipers and 914-6 GT calipers in the rear. I want to revert back to the factory 914 e-brake setup. (Yes, I know I can convert the trailing arms to the 911 e-brake setup, but the rear trailing arms are already powdercoated and assembled with bearings).

The full Boxster brake setup will be available for sale soon (front and rear).

Did more wiring for the MS3 installation. Completed the MS3 subsystem which includes the MS3 ecu, a fuse panel, relays and terminal strips. This is mounted in the rear trunk above the jack. Two 22 pin Weather Pack bulkhead connectors transfer the wiring from the trunk to the engine bay and beyond. An additional 4 pin Weather Pack connector is used for the live +12v from the battery and the switched +12v from the 914 relay board. And, yes, there is clearance for the top to fit in the trunk.

Tomorrow more wiring. There will be 42 wires connected through the Weather Pack bulkhead connectors, times 2 for the plug on tie other end. This is a little tedious. headbang.gif
Late tomorrow or Saturday the carbs will be replaced be the stock 914 plenum and runners and a 944 throttle body. With a little luck I should be able to start it on Sunday. biggrin.gif
