Almost done with the manifold cover. Need to fix a few issues with it.
Not sure if I am going to keep the "H" or not.

Uf I do maybe paint the background red?

Hard to tell, the part does have a curve to it, taller in the middle than the sides.

That looks bitchin Mike. I think the red background would be a cool touch. Kind of a Type R callout. beerchug.gif

Drove the '74 for the first time in two weeks last night. Just went to the gym and back but it was still 50 miles of twisty roads out of Valley Center to San Marcos and back.
Loved every minute of it although, some of the dash lights have gone dark. Gonna have to take a look at that when I have time breath.

Looks great Jim! are you happy with the transformation??

Very happy despite encountering problems aligning the new holes. I used the posted measurement as a guide as well as painting the ends of the studs to mark. I got three bolts in now but even that was a struggle. Definitely need another set of hands.
One thing I don’t care for; the license plate lights show. If they were flush, it would look a lot cleaner. Anyone done that ?

Sorta; I just picked it up from the chrome shop today. I have all the parts ready to install.

Last time I was under the car I noticed that it had been fitted with the brake backing plates for a venting system... I managed to piece meal the parts together to redo the scoop and hose sections and finally put them on today beerchug.gif
The vents hang low, hopefully I don't knock them off blink.gif

Finally got the old girl out of the Garage for the first time in 18 months.
Felt good to drive her again, even if it was only around the block.

Now to tackle the Megasquirt tuning learning curve!!!!!

Made a removable rear license plate removable for cleaning behind the plate. Bought4 small rare-earth magnets from Apex Magnets (on-line), put them onto the back of the bracket, then set on the bumper. Takes a good 20-30lbs pull to get it off.
Now the chrome behind the plate can be cleaned.

Got the driver’s side rocker off. Don’t know if it’s been 9, 28 or 47 years. There were 2 big nasty sheet metal screws in place of 2 cheeseheads - so doubt it’s been 47.

Passenger side’s been pb blasted for weeks - no go. About to heat the cheeseheads with butane and let it cool, then try an impact driver (hammer) - gotta feelin’ they’re gonna break though. headbang.gif

Pretty cool idea, Jim. Smart thinking on the call me.gif on the back side, should it ever become dislodged, although you might rethink about re-posting the pic on the forum without the phone # being visible confused24.gif ... idea.gif

Troubleshooting a too high idle which I think is related to the idle control valve or logic.

Whose idea was it to put a water cooled motor in the car? screwy.gif
Current problems related to the addition of water....

The motor spit up a bunch of coolant out of the fill tank after sitting idle for about 5 minutes.

Radiator cold to the touch as are the hoses right at the radiator.

I believe it is operator error. I removed the thermostat bypass hose (used to feed the heater core in stock apps) so no water is flowing like it should unless thermostat is open. Done for the day and will have to look at it again tomorrow.

Roger,

That Nissan powered 914 looks great!

I did an early and late targa top/hardware/latch shell game. Found the rear latches from my /6. They look chrome to me, not stainless. And magnetic. Must be chromed steel.

Burping cooling systems in some vehicles is a bitch. Went through that experience on the '99 Beetle a few times until I finally got all the air out. A Might-Vac might help to pull most of the air pockets out. idea.gif

My dash lights went out on Saturday as well! And took the licence plate lights with them - fuse #7 on my '75 2.0. I spent Sunday trying to find the short that's blowing the fuse and failed. I think it's the rheostat for the dash lights in the light switch. It is probably an intermittent fault too. I pulled the feed to the lightswitch off the back of the fuse panel so I coulld guarantee the licence plates are working when I take the car in tomorrow for it's Warrant of Fitness inspection....

I have LEDs on order from 914 Rubber for the dash lights so might bypass the rheostat completely - I'll see when they arrive.

Nice, Rob.

I finally managed to get the cheeseheads out of the passenger side- yea! ar15.gif - decades of dirt drooped out and I knocked out a bit of rust on the jackpoint - the rest is solid though.

last time #7 blew on me it was the wires at the license plate lights that had shorted.

See here what ive been up to- timing and tuning : http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...49488&st=20

changed the setting on the 123ignition, got idle down to proper level now, and i would say its running better than ever, using curve "C" , and with new TPS, and new rebuilt MPS from Jeff Bowlsby, its running as good as it looks, also recent new tires all around, and the rear spare tire mounted and the intergrated spare gas tank in place. Next weekend i am going to replace the washer mechanism, install the electric pump and new wiper mechanism....... not much left to do, might need a new project......
