New motor, rings and valves haven't completely seated yet, plus we're experiencing major swings in atmospheric pressure right now.

I wonder if there's a forum out there with the topic: "what did you do with your panties today" and one day someone posted: "I used them to fix a 914"

Place in The Sandbox and I'm sure it will flourish.

Back in the seventies, in my first 914 experience, I seem to remember using that excuse with my then girlfriend / to lend a helping "hand" in a unforeseen roadside repair effort. Absorbent, yet elastic and pliable, and at least one "repair part" available......... at the beginning of a 914 ride anyway.....

Still waiting on B/O seat tracks for the driver's side (I received the passenger's side earlier in the week). The tracks will need to be bolted to the floor pans instead of welded (being they're fiberglass) dry.gif

Started to put the engine back together. I forgot about the under barrels tinware. I got to the point of barrels fitted. The tinware pieces are now in paint and drying ready for next time.

Not today, but in the last four days of the paint/body class I took-

After soda blasting the area and replacing a credit card-sized piece of the passenger bulkhead (the passenger long was still solid), we got the new battery tray, tray support, and engine shelf welded in:

Then took one last trip up on the rack to fine-tune the front passenger side structure before final trim and weld of the new parts:

The instructor has been a body man for 35+ years, and did all the pulls by eye. Here is the result with the hood aligned with the leading edge of the cowl, parallel and evenly spaced between the fenders:

He seems to know what he's doing.

So for the final class (nothing motivates like a deadline), I got the finish trimming and fitting done, and it was time to tack the new parts in:

So three years after buying the car, two and a half years after Mark shipped me the front clip from California, two years after ordering the new trunk floor from Restoration Design, and multiple interruptions later, the 914 is technically one single piece of metal again:

After all that cutting and welding, all the front end measurements were less that 1mm off the factory specifications.

Next fall, we will work on finishing the welds, stripping the body, and paint. I guess that leaves me the summer to work on the transmission, engine, and decide what color to paint it.

So no one has to search back to find it, this is what she looked like the day she arrived at home:

Nice work thumb3d.gif

Our auto shop class out here closed down for the summer too dry.gif

My wife and I took an evening auto-body shop class at the Harbor Occupational Center in San Pedro some 20 or more years ago. It was a great class. If I had extensive body work needed, I'd definitely do it again sawzall-smiley.gif welder.gif smash.gif

I just got my 914 out of storage since Parade-2013 driving.gif
I had Stabil additives in the gas tank and put in a new battery. I went through the usual procedures, turn the key a few times to get fuel in the system. Hit the starter and it fired up after a few cranks. The sound of my Triad muffler was awsome w00t.gif Washed it and cleaned the wheels. wub.gif I need insurance and new tags so I was only able to take a few laps around the neighborhood. Back in the garage with the car cover off, so I can admire it after a long storage period.

My horn started going off when I turned the wheel at WCR. Turns out the screws holding the wiper/turn signals came loose. All good now.
Has anyone replaced the 75 plastic crappy steering column with a 73-74 column?
The 73-74 is all metal and looks to be a better setup.

Interesting; the ghost-wipe issue (unintensional wiper on/off) is caused by one of those screws coming loose, IIRC, The upper right one ?

Played in the garage for a bit, one thing nice about CNC is I can run a program and do something else....like use a clay bar on the wifes car, 1st time using one, came out great so far.

When I sent my OE 914-6 badge out for polish, I made a small wooden holder out of a short 2 x 4. The badge "Pins" Sat into some small drilled holes, and keep the badge steady + from flying across the room blink.gif
BTW that emblem is Looking Good shades.gif

Who is making those GT badges? If I can get one good one (even a rental), I can make several out of injection moulded black plastic or even CnC cut aluminum anodized black... very cool.

Do you have any pictures of your engine lid hinge repair? I have two of these to do. One is just a simple weld on bracket base to the firewall but the other bracket broke loose and took about a 1 1/2" piece of the firewall with it. I was thinking of reinforcing the firewall with a backing plate welded in the back side. Anyone else do this?

Ying and Yang day,

After an eternity got the six onto its dolly and listened to Radio LeMans

Pedal box, loom, dashframe, upper column and front shifter just to go and the fun can begin beer.gif

In moving the 911 it has sprung a fuel leak near the pump, hopefully it's just the hoses again. Ethanol in modern fuel seems to just chew through the rubber mad.gif Investigate tomorrow....
