Looks good! Is that a Boxster muffler, and is there enough clearance between the transaxle and valance? Maybe with the V-6 is the engine mounts farther forward than the original?

Yep, a Boxster muffler, there's just barely enough room but it does fit with a little cutting

I'm finally installing the factory swaybars I bought over a year ago using CFR Tangerine Racing mounts.

I'm also adding CFR's SS tunnel and engine compartment fuel lines.

I've driven this car 14000 miles with a front mounted fuel pump pressurizing the factory lines to 30 psi because that is how it was when I got it - never felt good about so it was time to do something about it.

I'm adding the SS underhood lines too (I have already replaced all of the underhood hose and clamps).

New bosch 2 port fuel pump too....

Used Koni's on the way too!

Of course everything received for Racer Chris has fit perfectly!

Just put this one in another thread but why not here too :-)

My first project in the re-assembly of what is so far a three year resto. Now its my turn. Put the decklid together just to get started somewhere and until I get my suspension parts and can get the chassis off the rotisserie.

Just my observation ... have you thought about painting the area under the grille black?

Still trying to get the Speedster off the lift. Every time I fix one thing, something else comes up. Plus I'm waiting for my suspension parts to arrive so I can get the 14 off the rotisserie. Pics in time i promise. Good things come to those who wait ;D

Mark, as much as I paid for the paint job.............its staying yellow!! I have more $$ in just the body than most finished cars in nice shape are worth sad.gif

I built some storage shelves for bins of parts I had leftover. Stacked and built right next to the SIX. Slick design stolen off the internet and relatively cheap build with storage totes, 2x3's, 1" strips. Safely stores all the misc. items leftover.

Only 914 drive was rolling it in and out of the garage.

Drove it to church then to the grocery store. I parked it in the bank parking lot so I will get any runaway shopping carts dents! Then filled it up 100% gas at $3.71 a gallon which is not what the poor souls in California are paying. Had the top on because we are getting our first cool spell of fall!

One of those refineries (Exxon/Mobil) is right down the street - the one that claims they had a power outage dry.gif

I paid $3.95 for gas at a '76' station last week. When I went to fill up on Friday, it was $4.65 at the same station sheeplove.gif

I moseyed on over to a Shell station on the way home that was 'only' $4.57, and used our Ralph's grocery store card (bonus points) to get down to $4.47. Costco was selling for $4.39, but the waiting lines were reminiscent of the days of the oil embargo back in the early '70's - didn't want to wait an hour or more.

The Tundra will sit here with a half tank until the prices come back down idea.gif

Drove it to the local VW show this weekend where I sell the event t-shirts. My 914 is a l-o-n-g way from being a show car but I parked next to where I was set up and got a LOT of people looking and asking about it.
One guy told me he has a '72 he got from auction that has quite a bit of work done to it including a Raby engine. He bought a '75 that he plans on swapping all the goodies into smile.gif
A couple of young guys were looking at it and, though they knew what it was, had no idea the details such as mid-engine, roof coming off, four wheel disc brakes, etc.
I even got the name and number of a teener in the area whom I had not yet heard about.
And can't forget about the young guy who currently owns a bus and plans on buying a 914 as soon as he finds the right deal. He is in the NC area and is looking for a project. I invited him to the Smoky Mountain Day Drive... hope he shows up.

Cleaned up some in the garage and moved my old motor off of one engine stand and put it on another (Hey Mark! Let's trade back).

Getting my spare tranny ready to inspection and reseal.

Making room for my volvo project.

Had to toss some Honey-Do's into the mix this weekend - stripping decades of old paint from some windows (front porch remodel). Gotta keep the little woman happy, ya know cheer.gif

Porsche VW content: Ordered and waiting for some of those new valve cover gaskets from 914rubber.

This weekend was the prep weekend for next weekends road trip with the girlfriend up to Monterey. I don't think I've ever done this much to the 914 in one weekend..

On my way back from school my 2 year old Terry clutch cable broke. It had frayed somewhere in the clutch tube. Note to those of you with terry clutch cables: an unsheathed cable under high tension through a metal tube with bends in it will chafe and eventually fray. That was an interesting drive home I must say.
So, I replaced it with an OEM cable, and all is well. I also picked up a clutch cable boot and threw it on there to try and extend the life of the new cable.
IPB Image

And here's the list of things:
-Cleaned and re-adjusted sway bar droplinks (Big bump here in pomona knocked something out of alignment)
-re-greased trailing arms and a-arms
-rust repair on the front driver side jacking donut. The floor pan had separated from the long
-installed a universal cigarette lighter/aux outlet in my console face to allow cell phone chargeing, gps usage, and heated blankets... rolleyes.gif
-installed FatMat sound deadening in the car in an attempt to make it more quiet.
-installed FatMat on the targa top to prevent it from acting like a bike drum/speaker and then glued down a new headliner from APPbiz
And finally got around to installing the carpet on the longs and the firewall. I had to pretty much get enough courage to cut holes in brand new and relatively expensive carpet.. I'm quite pleased with how it came out, and the car finally looks and feels finished on the inside. I'd say there's a 75% noise reduction in the cabin, and with webers, I would call that almost remarkable...

its totally shot. My car has been running uber rich, and has a very poor warm idle.

Hooked up the tiny Braille battery on my Suby conversion for the first time on Sunday after 4 years of blood, sweat and lotsa swearing. No smoke -- good.

Turned the engine over on the battery for the first time; no spark. Check ignition, and find the ignition is not letting juice through. Checked the ignition switch, and find it is cracked and not letting voltage through. Ordered a new switch on Monday and will pick it up tomorrow.

Light at the end of the tunnel, I hope! beer3.gif

went to the paint shop to buy metallic viper green and they wanted almost 600$ for everything! So i came home looked around a little online and found eastwood gasser green for $180 shipped for everything. close enough nobody but me will know the difference smile.gif

Big difference in costs. What is it - single stage?
mittelmotor
Mounted a scissor jack in the frunk with bolts, wing nuts and plastic spacers. Used a rubber mousepad underneath for some vibration isolation. Jack handle is zip-tied to carpet in back of passenger seat.

Compressor goes where windshield washer bottle used to live, and patch kit & diagonal pliers are in the center console bin. So at least I can repair a nail puncture by the side of the road; for something more serious, there's always AAA.

Yep it can be single stage depending how heavy you lay the final coat. They recommend misting the final coat and clearing it because of the flake. So i got the clear too.

brought it out in the sun to give it a wash and see how many spots i missed

I looked at my 914 today, twice...
'73-914kid
Made the drive from Pomona up to San Luis Obispo in the 914..through the pouring rain this afternoon..was definetely interesting driving through walls of rain for extended periods of time.. and also, my car is so low that instead of hydroplaning on big pudles, it moreso just floats across them..

But made it, without any problems, except my hearing... biggrin.gif

I opened a shipment from Richard Johnson and looked and lusted at my new 6 mount along with my engine tin and accelerator linkage kit.. What things of beauty!
Getting my winter project together. Bring on the snow! Just kidding on the snow

I dropped these old Brembo's off several weeks ago to get rebuilt and power coated. Picked them up today. I can't wait to bolt them on with a fresh set of porterfields.
They are not perfect or nicely anodized like Eric's but will do for my old car. My wife gets the good stuff (PMB) on her car.

I took a drive up to see my girlfriend in San Luis Obispo. I drove up thursday afternoon through the pouring rain (and hail wtf?) and made it there that night. We went and toured around Morro bay, Cambria, SLO, and Avila Beach. It was quite the weekend in the 914. I think the total mileage was up around 800 miles throughout the weekend..

We took the Amtrak up to Chico, CA on Friday, just got home a little bit ago tonight.

No 914s were sighted during the W/E, but we did see a 356 coupe and cabriolet caravan buzz by us coming through the San Fernando valley smile.gif

I'll try to dig into the 'BB' this week (when my new & improved leak-proof V/C gaskets show up) smile.gif

Those Brembos look NICE, Mike drooley.gif

Hey Ethan, I picked up a couple of those Honda GL (cycle) air boxes - want to see if they really DO reduce induction noise. Need to search for the thread 'someone' posted about them type.gif

Thanks Michael - I am hoping it will look and be much nicer once Scott gets his hands on it. It needs a complete valve job and guides of course. Hopefully the rest of it is in great shape. Very low mile motor that sat out of a car for quite some time. Engine also came with some 964ish cams.

Took the Toyo RA1 Dot R tires off and put the Conti-extremecontacts on. Ran the duct hose from the engine shroud to the drivers side heat tube, I will drive it until it is too cold or snow falls, it does throw a little heat setup this way.
